Kara/Lee fic recs: the mini

After watching the mini Monday night for the shipper re-watch, I got the urge to go back and reread (for the millionth time, yes—your point? ;) ) some of the first great Kara/Lee fics I devoured found in the BSG fandom, and especially those set before or during the mini. Just to connect again with that rush of excitement I felt upon discovering this series and its fic. Since I figure many of you might be eager to do the same, I put together a few recs set either pre-mini or during the mini itself. (Yes, I did include Academy fic because, well, we only really found out it was AU in the final months of the show and because so many of them are just so good that you want them to be canon, so.)

I had such fun putting these together that I'm thinking I'll try (try!) to put a similar list together each week, though obviously some eps spurred more fic than others (has anyone ever even written K/L set during "Water," for instance? Idek.). Would anyone besides me be interested in something as specific as this in terms of recs? Do let me know what you think!

Also, feel free to add more recs to this list in the comments. There are so many amazing stories out there (old and new to the fandom) I'd never be able to list them all here, so I'd love to hear what some of your favorite pre-mini and miniseries fics are.

These are mostly all classics. But man if you haven't read EVERYTHING Daphnaea and BrynnMcK and Claira have written? You absolutely should make it a priority. (Same with wisteria, leda13, widget285, fahye, rawles, and svilleficrecs.)

Excellent recs. Now I really want to reread "One Taste of the Apple." Love that one. And "Bunk Mates" (omg I have SUCH a bunk/snuggling kink, it's weird). And "Double Dates Are the Best." And all of these, really! You and Cosette have really put my little list to shame. I shall have to try to do better in the coming weeks, though of course we all have our favorites.

The "Stupid Thing Last Night" sequels bring up an interesting question in terms of how we categorize things. I had only rec'd the first one b/c parts 2 and 3 go back and forth between pre-mini and post-YCGHA. Will we just rec fics like that multiple times? Couldn't hurt. Stuff that spans whole seasons and arcs might need more consideration, though. Hmmm.

oh good point. My favorite part of that one is "seeing the tape" so I always think of it as pre-mini, even if technically it isn't.

Yeah, and seeing the point is obviously the major draw of that one, so it *should* be in the pre-mini recs. It's so like me to complicate things. ;) After reading her comment, I agree with Cosette's point, that it doesn't really matter since it's a rewatch.

I reread "One Taste of the Apple" some days ago and it is soooo good (all brynnmck's stuff really... I adore "Laws of Gravity" too).

Will we just rec fics like that multiple times? Couldn't hurt.

I was wonderig just the same... But I think that, since this is a rewatch after all, it doesn't matter, really... Myself, I've recced "Angle of Descent", which only contains a pre-mini bit --the rest of it is definitely S2--, but as it deals with the Zak/guilt topic in such a beautiful way... I couldn't help myself ;))

Ha ha ha, yeah, see? My Lee-like focus on rules comes out to play. But I agree with you that it doesn't really matter if we post things in a couple different places. Sometimes I just need to chill and go with the flow. Glad we have discussed this, though, and that people won't need to wonder about that for recs in the coming weeks. :)
