I know, I know! It's Christmas, it's crazy out there (Yes you really will be tackling people like a pro line backer!). You still haven't bought the presents for the kids, the school is demanding you still create 3 elf costumes and a Santa beard that looks good. Your mother wants to know when it is ok to come over and do not get started about your siblings!
So instead, grab a cup of cocoa or a falvoured coffee instead (mmmm peppermint mocha) and throw a musical suggestion or two in the comments
We have seen the fan mixes, we have watched the fan vids, but what songs have made you think of pilots or piloty moments?
If you want to, you can even give the youtube video of it, if there is a Kara/Lee vid to it even better. But if all you have time for is a name and title that is cool too.

Date: 2011-12-19 01:02 pm (UTC)The first is a Kara vid; the music is "Breathe Me" by Sia, which some may recognize as the music playing in the final scene of Six Feet Under. The song is gorgeous and melancholy, and it really fits Kara in my mind. (There's also a sweet Kara/Karl vid (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z20o6rgnhKc&feature=related) with the same music.)
The second is a Kara/ Lee vid; the music is "Set the Fire to the Third Bar" by Snow Patrol featuring Martha Wainwright. I'm not that fond of Snow Patrol, but I love Martha Wainwright; there's a beautiful contrast between/ combination of their musical styles and sounds as heard in this song. The song is full of hope and heartbreak and need (aka pilots, right?).
Enjoy!

Date: 2011-12-19 02:59 pm (UTC)OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!
I had not heard the Snow Patrol/Martha Wainwright collaboration. LOVE Martha Wainwwright. (And don't even get me started on Rufus. I could go on for DAYS.)
I missed your playlist the first time around, and I must say, I really dig it. Excellent choices. :D

Date: 2011-12-19 08:35 pm (UTC)Thank you so much, glad you liked the playlist for Karin! If you ever want me to pull together a playlist for one of your fics, I'd be happy to discuss. :D

Date: 2011-12-20 04:01 am (UTC)Aww, yay! You know I love a good playlist. I usually always come up with my own, but it's be fun to see what someone else would do. Oh-- you could almost do it like a fic remix-- take existing fics and cut a new playlist for it. Now that's an interesting idea...

Date: 2011-12-20 02:06 pm (UTC)But if you want to revisit any of those fics, I'm totally cool with that. I don't think my other stuff has any soundtracks but they're mostly oneshots. So long or short, I'm cool with you doing whatever. Just let me know. What a fun Christmas present! :D

Date: 2011-12-19 02:53 pm (UTC)How about an angsty Kara song from my girl Aimee Mann? It's called 'Red Vines.'
My favorite line--
Would it really kill you
Would it really spoil everything
If you didn't blame yourself--
Do you know what I mean?

Date: 2011-12-19 02:54 pm (UTC)Don't have a Lee/Kara vid but heres a link to the song. Everytime I hear the lyric "Kiss me like you want to be loved" it reminds me of Scar when Kara kisses him again before walking out. The way she kisses him....she so wants to be loved in that moment but she doesn't let herself. I also love this part
I've been feeling everything
From hate to love
From love to lust
From lust to truth
I guess that how I know you
So I hold you close
To help you give it up
That just screams Lee/Kara to me..

Date: 2011-12-19 03:30 pm (UTC)Disclaimer: I'm old and most of my music is 1999 or before.
I really think Laid by James is a great song for them. It occurred to me when I was listening and heard "slammed your fingers in the door". But the more I listened the more it really seemed to fit because it's all hot sex, angry violence, and trying to break it up but not being able to. Plus,
This vid just makes me happy. You can't take the sky from Kara.
Plus I just love Joss/BSG crossover. I was so happy when I found this video (http://youtu.be/Y11ePwuHdDo) because I had about died when Lee said "Where do we go from here?" (I know Sharon also said it and maybe Cally too)

Date: 2011-12-19 06:36 pm (UTC)1) In the Sun - Coldplay w/ Michael Stipes
As heard here. (http://youtu.be/Bj3ibm95zzc) I think there are a lot of visuals that could be worked with here - flashes of Kara and Lee playing with the hose/the lights on Galactica flashing around Kara, shots of Kara's idols, the scenes of pilotforgiveness, etc.
2) Can't Stand Still> - The Postelles
I wanna love you, but you can't stand still... (http://www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/3530822107858850037/). It's soooo Leeeeeeeee.
[and 3) Please Don't Leave Me by Pink, which I think the collective unconscious recognizes as so pilots, and I think there might be a vid out there, but I'm so spoiled by the dualbunny vids that I think one should be made at that level.]

Date: 2011-12-19 07:31 pm (UTC)I feel like I'm cheating, because I mentioned this song last time this came up, but it just keeps coming back to me, so I'ma share the love. With an embed this time!
So, to me, this is all Lee, all about Kara, post-poof. All that maturity, all that self-awareness, mellow and wry and ... I don't know, aching for her always but resigned to it, resigned to waiting for her on the other side of life. A peace that comes from knowing who they were, and who they are, and who they will be. Knowing he needs her but doesn't need her physically present for her to be part of him, always; doesn't need her to be there, just for her to be, for him to be Lee Adama.
When I listen to this song, I like to picture Lee in some crude hipster-café hut, years after settlement, playing before a half-listening audience who don't know him, or her, with one of the last/first guitars in existence. (Because that image makes me laugh on the inside.) Singing a song of Kara, hymn, ode, and serenade to her memory; remembering her to people and yet not sharing *her*, the Kara that only he has.
Except, instead of I need a woman/with a heart like Secretariat/to outrun my lonesome ways, I think he sings with a heart like Galactica/to outfight my lonesome ways. (Or something. Strictly speaking, there are a few substitutions that probably should happen. John Henry what?)
Cause I'm the blue-eyed son of a hurricane
twirl you so sweetly around....
I'm going to take this extra rib I've got
I'm gonna bury it
down in the dust
the dust she does not raise
And I like how the last line takes on a new, hidden meaning considering how they'll be reunited.

Date: 2011-12-20 12:22 am (UTC)Sadly, Katee Sackhoff has done no costume shows, so I'm going to use Romola Garai for the "In Another Life" parts.

and
Bear McCreary's "Passacaglia" (i.e. the song that play in the first season when we see Kara frakking Baltar and Lee dueling with his father). The repetitiveness of the song really strikes a chord with me about how Kara and Lee seem to be stuck in this never ending cycle which also makes me think of the whole "this has all happened before and will happen again" theme of the show.

Date: 2011-12-24 06:31 pm (UTC)Well for me nothing will ever be more perfect for pilots than Violence and Variations (so beautiful and epic, and SO MUCH PAIN *cries*) and, like standwithgiants says, Passacaglia.
That said, I've always loved Kissing In The Rain from the Great Expectations soundtrack - it might not have been composed for Lee and Kara, but there's something so epic and romantic and yearning about it, it's almost uncanny how much it suits them.
