Weekend!

Don't these poor kids deserve some fun? We (and the show) put them through so much angst, so for the next two days, a writing challenge: Write them a weekend away, a couple days of leave, some kind of time off. Anywhere in the fleet, on any planet they've visited, or go AU. Just give them a break already!

(Even right here, they were *supposed* to be working.)

Leave prompts, recs, or fic below...

I know, and the only time we ever see them both off duty and having a little R&R at the same time apart from the Colonial Day dance, it's here:

And leads to this :( :( :( :(

One of my favorite BSG fics, Artemis Rising by [livejournal.com profile] stars_like_dust, has pre-mini/Academy pilots spending their break together on a beach. There is banter and fun, and less angst because it is pre-Zak, just fun, flirty pilots on a beach.

I can't count how many times I've gone back to reread this, but I love it just as much (if not more) each time. I love minimally angsty baby!pilots so much!

He shrugs an arm around her shoulders without even thinking. It’s not habit, because it could never be that. Not when the sense of one another is so perfect. Instead it’s comfortable. It’s practiced… it is love.

She sends him a sidelong glance at the gesture as they move into the restaurant. It’s a nicer place than they usually go to, however the occasion called for it. Ten years together was something to be marked. And as soon the waiting staff take their coats and the maître d their name, Kara is glancing around and smirking at the other diners, not quite able to resist people watching and giving a mental laugh at how right she was about who else might be in ‘Saunders’ this evening.

In the waiting area, there were the hip trendy couple, just on the edge of being thrown out for wearing jeans with their artlessly loose white shirts and her elongated artsy jewellery – the cost of their lifestyle branded on their sunglasses and shoes, the reason she assumes, that they hadn’t been turfed out for flouting the dress code already. Sitting sniffily across from them were a group of elder men and women together. The men with sports jackets and cravats and the women with their heads done up in a scarfs and hats like they’d just stepped on the Titanic. They were ordering off the menu by using the actual phrases rather more than their common Caprican counter parts.

Kara grinned.

It was at this point that Lee clocked her look, read what she was thinking and shook his head with a disparaging smirk. She surreptitiously slapped his ass, then leaning in close as they were walked to their table and whispers, “If they see my tattoos, will they kick us out?”

Lee’s mouth quivers, trying to keep a straight face until the server leaves.

“Frak no. Half of these places are still owned by Ha'la'tha members, so I doubt it.”

“How about if I just ask for some cow and rare?”

Lee’s eyes lit with alarm at that, then settled. He didn’t think she’d do it, but then this being Kara, he never could be sure. He decided to play her at her own game for a laugh.

“You do that and I’ll ask for the ‘amusing bush’ instead of the amuse-bouche.”

Kara resisted spitting into her hand, but still held her palm out in challenge. “You’re on.”

Oh, and I am not sure if this only works beyond a Brit smutty pun? Bush = what you think it does given a moment!

It totally works. And I love anything that can work an amuse-bouche joke into the mix. Bravo! :D

Hee, glad you liked my mash up of Caprican / Earth history culture. Because I am POSITIVE that they had a ship called the Titanic (not the crappy film) that sank. (oh how I love 'screw it' AU, hee!)

Re writing - go, go, go!
