Welcome to a new week of DPP!  To those celebrating it, Happy Halloween!  Since I just signed up to drive this week's DPP a week ago, I wasn't able to come up with anything for Halloween.  Thankfully, we've got lots of delicious treats from this past weekend's post thanks to [livejournal.com profile] taragel.

Meanwhile, this week I'll be dedicating each day to color.  Today is
Red
Red is a warm color that stimulates, acting to excite you.  It has so many different meanings around the world (ie. love, anger, good luck, beauty).  So, I'd like to ask you, what does the color red mean to you?  What does the color red mean to Kara and Lee? To the Battlestar Galactica Universe?  What image immediately pops up in your mind when you think of RED?

Any other thoughts on red is welcome.  Go crazy, paint the town red!

Apollo feels pretty crappy after getting beat by Starbuck.  Starbuck feels pretty happy about it.

Oh one that I love and associate with red is Kara's wrappings from UB, handily included right there in your pic! And in one of my favorite icons. (Another red from UB? Laura's fetching wrap dress.)

I also think of blood of course, not just human, though pilots do wear it well, but cylon raider blood splattering onto Kara's canopy on the battle in He That Believeth in Me and her yelling triumphantly "Splash One!"

Also, the red tape line she and Adama roll out at the end of Islanded? Or is it beginning of Daybreak?

(PS. I expanded the Halloween Treats meme to run through midnight tonight, in case anyone still wants to play. It seems silly NOT to run it on Halloween. Heh.)

Linked into 1, I always think of how red the moon is that she lands on. The darker side of red: violence, blood and anger - how she's lost in in the confession of her guilt and feeling like she deserves to be punished for Zak's death. A hell like world to torment her for her supposed sins.

Ooh, I hadn't thought of that one, but you're totally right. The red is so dark and ominous there.

Another flash of red in BSG, though not for Kara or Lee: Sam's red eye moment where the Cylons scan him during a dogfight, recognize him as one of their own, and turn back.

Oh, yes. That was an entire phase of red, so good.

Funny, but Red is really the color I associate with Pilots: passion, blood, life-force, fire...all of those things that feel like pilots to me. <3

Me too-- but only in the moments where they connect. Separately, I don't associate the color with either of them. Yellows and oranges for Kara; blues and greens for Lee. But when they come together-- all red. It's like you could pick from a fandeck of color to get certain moments.

scarlet, crimson, cherry, oxblood, vermillion, candy apple, etc.

: )

Seeing Red.

It's a haze. A filter over the world.

Her lips move but he barely recognizes the words. He's too busy thinking about what she did.

A voice cries out form some remote corner-- that he has no right. He never staked his claim. That it's not her fault.

An angrier one drives it out. She should have known better. She did know better. Any good intentions he might have had run for the hills, and all he can think about is causing just enough pain to feel better.

He succeeds. In spades.

Her punch feels as good as a kiss in that moment and he wants more. Seems only right to kiss back.

Days later he'll obsess over it. Weeks after that he'll look back and wonder who that was-- what that was. Play back every single second in slow motion. Analyze it, as if he were trying to solve a puzzle.

What stings most is the look on her face. He can't make it go away. It's a stain; a mark he can't erase.

Like blood on his hands.

*cries* lovely, but it just broke my heart. Like pilots themselves do. I especially love the first bit, this:

It's a haze. A filter over the world.

A voice cries out form some remote corner-- that he has no right. He never staked his claim. That it's not her fault.

*sigh* poor heartbroken bbs :(

Thanks, sweetie. Been thinking about this a lot since KLG1 is coming up at the BBC in a few weeks. I'd like to think that Lee was self-aware enough to realize just how horrible he'd been in that moment, but I'm still on the fence. I hope so though.

(Sorry about the heartbreaking! **hugs you**)

It's a bit open to interpretation - I kind of read the big "I'm your friend, I'm here for you" speech in Home 1 as an apology of sorts for being an asshole about Sharon as well as for the way he behaved over the Baltar thing.

I think that's a very fair point. The the non-apology apology is TOTALLY how those kids roll. ; )

So, so, so good. I mean perfect! I, too, love the voice in his head, but the part I swooned over was the punch feeling as good as a kiss & why not kiss back? (Immediately heard Florence & the Machine!)

Nice :)

Would you believe that I never heard that song before tonight? I like F + M, but I haven't listened to much. So I went and looked up the song after reading your comment. Very nice indeed.

Also? That was my favorite line too. : )

Thank you for the very lovely comment!

Yeah, Kiss with a Fist is like a Pilots Theme Song for me (I'm sure I picked it up from one of y'all, probably Wand3rlust...I like her fnamixes)

So good but it made me sad! Oh pilots! Those last two lines just pack a punch. Wonderful job!

This just makes my heart break. Lee's pain and regrte are so overwhelming and then overwhelmed by anger. Those kids. *shakes head*

What he does right there becomes such a pivotal moment in their relationship, and such a sad one. : (

Red+pilots is not only their blood and passion and the haze of battle, but also the massive, broken mess they made of my heart and their own. *sigh*

Red, otherwise in BSG....my immediate associations are Six's dress and the colour of Laura's hair. Not to mention the red eyes of the Cylons centurions (most obvious, haha).

In the world of fandom, "red" makes me think of settler's fic Forbidden Fruit (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3493808/1/Forbidden_Fruit), because apples are at the center of it.
