DPP: Two Are Better than One

For today, a little discussion topic: Our pilots are often separated in canon. What scenes/arcs/episodes would have been better if they were both together? Demetrius, Caprica, New Caprica... what about the smaller bits? If they both got stranded on that moon or both were in the collaborator/circle together? Are there any that you think were better with them apart? Do you love their separations as a necessary evil because it makes reunions all the more sweet?

Bonus writing prompts: Feel free to write a snippet that puts pilots together in a time when canon kept them apart. :) Or write a new/AU ficlet of a time when they reunite after a separation.

I'll come with some more coherent thoughts later but right now, I just want to say, that I always wished we saw pilots together in the brig and at a triad table.

The Demeterius mission would certainly be much more successful and enjoyable if Lee was on board.

Oh that's an interesting one--we never did see pilots playing triad together, yet it's such a huge fandom trope. Heh.

I really wonder how things would have changed if Lee was on the Demetrius. What if he was the one who shot Gaeta instead of Sam? Hmmm.

DEMETRIUS!!! It just doesn't make sense to me that LEE IS NOT THERE!?!?!?! Why is he not there? What ridiculous writer thought that Kara had returned from the dead only to leave Lee and for him to allow it. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! *POUNDS FISTS IN FRUSTRATION* (YES, I HAVE A LOT OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS!!!!)

Would have loved for Lee to be living on New Caprica when the cylons came and invaded...I can just imagine him and Kara still not speaking to each other but if they were in the same area once disaster hit they're totally would have been instantaneous eye contact and "Okay, here's what we need to do."

Sometimes I do like it when they're apart, even though it makes me feel all antsy. Even though they're often better together they have individual strengths and weaknesses that come out when they're alone that make them interesting to watch. And even though it's sad sad sad that Lee isn't there with Kara at the end of Resurrection Ship we get the "Wish you were here, Lee." *sigh*

OOH I LOVE THAT IDEA. That they both settle and are forced to work together to lead a resistance...which naturally causes problems in both marriages (picturing the EoJ/Rapture standoffs with Lee & Sam and the situation with Dee rescuing Kara happening on New Caprica now!)

If they'd both been there/going into the CIC in Res Ship, I wonder if that alone would've forced a standoff happening or made Cain more suspicous or...I don't know! It's such a delicate situation with the timing of how it plays out, adding another person to the mix, even one as diplomatic/level-headed as Lee, could be very interesting.

I too love the idea of Lee being on New Caprica during the resistance, whether he had settled on the planet or because he was trapped when the cylons came.

This is true regardless of how well the relationship might be. And the tension between Lee and Sam after Kara's taken by Leoben would be priceless. :)

Season 1 thoughts: Kara is sent to Astral Queen instead of Dee; both pilots are interrogating Leoben; and Kara teaches Lee how to fly the cylon raider

I especially like that second one, because again, it could result in the death of Leoben if Lee got very upset. <3 (Although I guess he did die anyway when Madame P. airlocked him, but I would've swooned a bit if Lee did it to protect Kara.)

It would be interesting to see if Leoben could get into Lee's head as quickly as into Kara's. He's such a good mind reader, I'm sure he'd pick up on their tension/chemistry and would immediately try to use it for his advantage: pushing them against each other, threatening Kara so Lee would snap, revealing Kara's secrets in front of Lee etc.

Hmm, here's another alternate suggestion. What if Kara had been taken by the cylons when her raptor got shot down in EOJ/Rapture arc? What if Dee had failed to rescue her or refused to go after her? Or What if Lee had gone instead, his words about them being over still ringing in his ears? Alternatively, What if Sam goes to rescue her and he gets "kidnapped" too and they both discover his cylon nature while with the cylons? So many possibilities for emotional upheaval.

That might have neatly avoided the bullshit of TABFYW and even Maelstrom. If she'd just been taken captive, then later came back. Maybe I've been watching too much Homeland, but I imagine there would still be suspicious about her alliances and what had happened to her while she was gone... that could've been interesting to explore without making Kara dead, thus eliminating any later poofing bullshit.

I love all of this. I've been thinking about different ways Kara's rescue could have been tweeked. But I am loving the idea of her, and especially her and Sam, being captured. The questioning of loyalties is so much more interesting than killing Kara. :P

Or what if Lee had gone back to Caprica with Kara? Could easily have avoided a whole slew of later complications with Sam and Dee!

Also, while it wouldn't have spared any of our poor hearts, it would have been really interesting if both of them died and returned.
