DPP: Reccing Weekend

In honour of weekend laziness, I won't ask too much of anyone who comes by here today - only that you leave a rec for something, anything, that's pilot-y and makes you happy (or even beautifully, heart-meltingly sad, that will do too since fannish feelings for BSG and pilots seem to be an indicator of hidden masochistic streaks in many of us).

Pics, fics, vids, manips, meta, quotes, drabbles, gifs, bring 'em on, people - whether they're old favourites in the fandom or something you just discovered, tell us about them!

And fic-wise, I just began reading kag523's Libertas, which is AWESOME and EPIC. This and workerbee73's Borrowed Time (pre-mini pilots! *squeals*) and taragel's awesome Ice!Pilots have got my weekend and possibly a few days after that tied up. How about everyone else?

sci_fi_shipper's More Than Fireworks in the Sky (http://pilots-presents.livejournal.com/19529.html#cutid1) -- Kara and Lee meet up to watch fireworks...and maybe end up making a few of their own. The mood and the dialogue are just perfect in this little one-shot. (I still want the camping sequel to this!)

howlinchickhowl's Spend the Night I'll Treat You Right (http://howlinchickhowl.livejournal.com/29877.html#cutid1) -- There's a car breakdown and a motel and stealth-snuggling and vintage-feeling pre-mini pilots who finally get a clue! Heartwarming and delightful.

stars_like_dust's Artemis Rising (http://stars-like-dust.livejournal.com/225866.html) -- I love all of Claira's fic but this one might be my favorite. K/L are BFFs at the Academy and go on a summer vacation to the beach together, where naturally they get a bit closer. ;)

Just realized all three of these fics have one theme in common: Kara wants Lee (and he's clueless to that fact).

Awww... you are so sweet. Thank you! I do have the opening scene of the camping pilots already written in my WIP folder, so that will come one day, maybe when the doldrums of winter make me want sunshine and fresh air and pilots trying to make it happen. *happy sigh* :D

I am planning to write all day, but later will be reading any new chapters of Si Vis Amari (http://kag523.livejournal.com/191374.html) from kag523.

I'll also be re-reading taragel's Home Sweet Home (http://taragel.livejournal.com/180524.html#cutid1), which I enjoyed but ran out the door and never left a comment (forthcoming, my dear).

I might also go back and re-read the two kinky K/L drabbles from last night's Friday Night Fun Post (http://bsg-kink.livejournal.com/293875.html) at bsg_kink. I was too tired/lame to write, but had some prompts filled. I've also promised to read some other non-K/L fic to support other writers. Should be good.

I might also scrap all of it and watch Sons of Anarchy all day.

Mmm… I am reccing four fics I’ve been re-reading lately and which are probably some of my all time favorites :)

Angle of Descent (http://daphnaea.livejournal.com/3443.html?page=1#comments) by daphnaea. I adore all her stuff and this is no exception. There's nothing I love more in a K/L than UST and banter and Zak between them, and this one is a classic. I think the author nailed here Kara and Lee’s relationship -- the inevitable attraction towards each other that goes beyond the physical, Zak, the guilt, the silliness, the fun, the endless cycle of lovehatelovehate, the desire to work out what exactly their problem is but their inability to do it, the immense underlying passion. It’s so adorable and heart-rending at the same time. Sigh.

Aerilon Girls Are Easy (http://flowrs4ophelia.livejournal.com/113085.html) by flowrs4ophelia. I love this one so much. The end of the worlds never happened—the cylons never attacked—and Lee and Kara haven’t seen each other since their brief encounter in the brig. The conflict this story brings out to the open is a K/L classic and also one of my personal weaknesses; if Kara and Lee were aware of their attraction while she was still with Zak, after he died, the feeling of betrayal would have become even greater, being very hard for them to be completely honest with each other about their feelings and overcome the inherent wrongness attached to them. So bittersweet and touching that breaks my heart in the best possible way (the ending is SO PERFECT!!)

Through Violence with Love (http://sci-fi-shipper.livejournal.com/79669.html) by sci_fi_shipper. This fic is inspired by the book and film Fight Club and I am pretty much in love with it. It’s no light read but it’s beautifully written and it's intense, gripping and sexy and hot as hell! I think Heather nailed the tone and I love how she blends BSG canon and the Fight Club world in a way that creates a totally different universe. A real pleasure to read. <3

We’re Not Friends (http://ninety6tears.livejournal.com/82786.html) by ninety6tears. This is absolutely phenomenal. AU in which Kara never knew Zak and first meets Lee after the fall of the colonies… and they hate each other at first sight. I love the premise, I love the writing style, and I love Lee and Kara’s dynamic here: how they clash, how their thing starts as a dare and becomes something much deeper than either of them are ready to handle. Also, the sex scenes are great and delicious and non gratuitous --there’s actual character development happening in those moments and I love this fic all the more for that. Guh.

Thank you, love, for the delicious comment and rec. I've read Aerilon Girls are Easy and We're Not Friends, but so long ago that I can hardly remember them. I want now to read them again - especially We're Not Friends. I do love that writing style. So achy and transfixing.

I feel like I must have read Angle of Descent, but I just don't remember it. I'll have to go to read it again.

I've read them all except for Through Violence with Love, but I'm going to bookmark the entire lot and re-read them, they are so, so good. I remember some especially intense pilotfrakking in Aerilon Girls Are Easy and We're Not Friends....must refresh my memory of those!

Oh, you should read Through Violence with Love, it's pretty dark and deliciously hot! Guh. And something I love about both Aerilon Girls and We're Not Friends is how well the sex in these stories is used to push the plot along. Really good storytelling IMO.

These are some of my favorite fics. Spoiler alert: Aerilon girls is so so sad :( though somewhat hopeful, too? I think lee is written so well in it, too. As someone who is new to bsg and hot!pilot!love, I'm constantly amazed at how much good fic there is in this fandom.

I'm trying to think of different recs than my usual (Artemis Rising which taragel mentioned above, and Contrecoup (http://fahye-fic.livejournal.com/29199.html) by mercurial_wit).

Works in Progress (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4534545/1/Works_in_Progress) is a fun epic AU in which Kara and Lee meet for the first time to go on a mission ...as a married couple. It gets dark in places, but the first half especially is pretty cute.

All of innibis's Frakked-Up Fairytales (http://innibis.livejournal.com/tag/fairytale) which are all AUs but some (Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast) are set in the Colonies and others are set in their appropriate time periods/locations. I can't pick a favorite, at all, but Aladdin (http://innibis.livejournal.com/58049.html) is the one I've read most recently.

And in a less AU-vein, here are some hurt/comfort recs. Because I dearly love that trope. Give me all of it.

Going Through Hell (http://thefannishwaldo.livejournal.com/192425.html) by thefannishwaldo, in which Kara comes back from Caprica immediately after her fight with the Six and needs Lee's tlc.

Oooooh, Frakked Up Fairytales are so awesome! I'm especially in love with the Twelve Colonies-set ones, innibis is a genius at taking tropes and situations out of the old tales and making them fit pilots.

I haven't read the hurt/comfort ones, so thank you for those!

i love all the recs mentioned here (except the 2 that i didn't managed to read yet - but i'm sure i;ll love them also when i finally get around to read them) but i had to stop and say that works in progress is one of the first sort of long AUs that i read and it's really great. the beginning always makes me laugh and the plot-line is very interesting. i'll not say more because anything that i'll say it will be spoilery.
