DPP: Pilots and Season Finales
Oct. 6th, 2011 11:50 pmCasual observation shows us that there's a 3 in 4 chance that pilots are going to have something really horrible done to them right at the end of a season, or that they'll be screwed over in some part of a 2-part season finale. Let's look at the tally here:
Season 1: Kobol's Last Gleaming, Part 1- Lee has a jealous bitchfit at Kara over her one-night stand* and refuses to unbend enough to even admit that he'd miss her if she died, punches are exchanged, and Kara jumps the Raider away to Caprica before they've had the chance to make up.

*interestingly, there's a deleted scene where they go jogging together the next morning and he teases her about her bedhead, asking if she got laid. Which makes the whole thing even sadder somehow.
Season 2: Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2 - One Year Later, pilots are married to other people, Lee has got fat, Kara knows New Craprica is total and complete crap, and (worst of all) they aren't even friends anymore. *sob*

Season 3: Crossroads, Part 2 - finally, a season finale that's not completely awful to pilots because KARA RETURNS FROM THE DEAD AND LEE IS THE FIRST PERSON TO SEE HER AND SHE IS HAPPY. Though the show did kill her off three episodes ago.

Season 4: Daybreak, Part 2 - Pilots are on Earth, have said goodbye to PapAdama and finally look set to have some time together with no spouses or angst getting in the way......and then KARA GOES POOF WTF. And not even a poof she's happy about, if the look on her face is anything to go by.

Of all these mostly-unsatisfactory season endings for them, which one would you change if you were given the chance, and why? What if we left Daybreak out of the reckoning - which of the season endings would you have changed in that case just to give pilots a little less misery than usual?

Date: 2011-10-06 07:34 pm (UTC)What surprises me that the pilots start every season except for the first one being at completely different places and it must be hard to believe for a newbie viewer that these two people even know each other. When not together, they seem to be completely different, almost opposites, but once you put them in the same place: bang! and you know that these two belong together. I often wondered how I would feel about the pilots if I started watching BSG with 2x01, 3x01 or 4x03.
Season 2: Lee is the sensitive guy aiding the president and worrying about his father who looks like he has little to do with the super though girl fighting all the cylons on Caprica, but when he and Kara meet at Home, you know that they spend a great deal of the time apart thinking about each other.
Season 3: Kara suffers terribly down on New Caprica and as a result gets ruthless, reckless and with self-destructive tendencies and until Torn you wonder if she even knows the name of the fat lazy passive guy from Pegasus but once you get to UB, you know that they are soulmates and it all makes perfect sense.
Season 4 (after 4x03): Kara's the crazy bitch on Demeterius, while Lee is the new ambitious Quorum delegate (hardly anything in common) but once they get together during the Mutiny, you know that they are the perfect team.

Date: 2011-10-07 12:51 pm (UTC)I mean, I love UB so much but I might want to spare them the pain, but marrying other people wasn't totally a paint-into-a-corner situation - TAB nearly gave them an out, a way to have each other, and then they didn't take it *headdesk*
