DPP: Third Wheel

Ah! So it's my week here at no_takebacks and I'm still an ickle newbie so I ask for your patience! If any of my topics have been done before, just let me know, I've been through the last few months worth of entries just to be sure but I may have missed something! And so, to get us started this week...

What characters do you think most influence Kara & Lee as a pair/potential couple? Do you think there were folks who wanted them to get together? Characters who unwittingly pushed them closer together? What about terrible influences? How do you think their friends as individuals maybe dealt with the romantic aspect off camera?

Some examples/my thoughts after the cut! (and for your viewing pleasure, really the only 'third wheel' picture that I find at all acceptable mostly because it's just really hard for me to hate Zak at all - what do you think?)


Helo - I'd love to see locker room talk between Helo and Kara. I just feel he'd be of the 'just frak already' school of thought and it would be epic to listen to him make fun of Kara for not having the guts to do anything about it all.

Balter - I think Kara sleeping with Baltar actually had a good influence on the pilots! When Kara... said the wrong name... she spent a bit in the rest of the episode kind of internally dealing with that and Baltar just couldn't keep his mouth shut making for many awkward/tense moments between the pilots!

Dee & Sam - Obviously, terrible influences.

So what do you think? Would Romo have a snarky opinion? Would Adama give his son a heart to heart? Did Zak see any attraction between his girl and his brother? Any and every character friendship/relationship is up for discussion!

In canon, I think Lee and Kara worked very hard to keep their feeling for each other secret from everyone, including frequently themselves. If anyone figured it out and might have really rooted for them as a couple it was Laura. And Dee knew that Lee at least had feelings for Kara before they married. I'm kind of torn when it comes to the other pilots and the deck crew. The tension and flirtation seems really obvious to the audience, but I don't think the idea that everyone on the flight deck was in on a pool or would have locked Starbuck and Apollo in a closet works outside of fanon.

Helo is an interesting case though. It's hard to imagine Kara mentioning Lee at all before the attacks, and Helo's interactions with Lee in the mini wouldn't have put Lee in a great light so while Helo shipping Kara and Sam in canon is somehow disappointing, it's also totally believable. Sam is who Helo sees Kara with and happy with first. I definitely put Helo in the group of people who didn't have any idea until the dance and the affair, which I can't see Helo being ok with at all.

But now I'm kind of musing on what would have happened if Kara had talked to Helo instead of Tigh the morning after on New Caprica. Hmm.

I just have to figure out how Kara and Helo would run into each other since Helo wasn't planetside for the Founders Day celbration.
