Pardon this slight interruption to your regularly scheduled programming...

A while back I was thinking about the fact that most pilots fic these days seems to be either really short stuff (up to 5000 words: comment fic and one-shots) or long stuff (50,000 words and up: ongoing multi-chapter WIPs) and what we're lacking is the medium stuff of about 10,000 to 50,000 words.

Hence I'd like to propose we have a Medium Bang--similar to the fandom Big Bangs but on the smaller scale of that 10-50K range! So who's interested? We could also have an artwork component, if there was enough interest, and/or a theme or a prompt component? Any ideas? Put em in the comments!

Can I say "maybe"? The idea intrigues me, but I'm nervous about writing fic still and have never managed to even begin to approach the minimum length. Also have no idea what I'd write about :/

I know a lot of stuff is shortfic, but it must be said, it's really GOOD fic (this goes for most BSG fic on LJ, of all lengths) which is kind of rare in any fandom.

I can't really commit to writing longfic, but if anyone has wants me for a beta reader I'm all yours.

I really have to second the idea that it's GOOD fic! Coming from such a snobby, big/old fandom as DW, I'm so spoiled & usually get really disgusted with other fandoms' fic either in terms of quantity or quality or both but not here! Not one bit!! So write on you gifted goddesses!

Lol. No one is impugning the quality of the short fic that gets written. I, personally, write mostly short fic and find it very enjoyable. Just happened to notice there is not a lot of in-between fic. So it seemed like a niche that should be filled.

The Pilots!fic that y'all write is ALL good, regardless of length (although, feel free to lengthen anything...*snicker* fic-wise, I mean) and that's what I meant. The short stuff is satisfying for a quick fix, the long fic perfect for total immersion and you're right, we can never have enough in-between :) I just had to jump in and cheer!

I'm putting in a tentative yes to fic writing, but if this winds up going through in November I may be dealing with a bit too much RL stuff at that point. I'll give it a shot, though -- sorry I can't be more firm in my commitment right now.
