DPP: If Pilots Weren't Pilots....
Jul. 6th, 2011 11:14 pm ...what do you think they'd be? In-canon, we've seen both pilots drop out of military life and give up their wings (Kara returned to it, Lee didn't), and we know that they've had career aspirations that didn't involve flying - Kara initially wanted to be a pro Pyramid player before she busted her knee, Lee intended to quit the service after he'd done his required four years.

What I'm wondering about is, are there any other professions you guys can picture them in? How would their relationship play out if there were no frat regs to be considered, they weren't responsible for keeping people safe/alive, or Kara had to spend all day behind a desk (an image I have real trouble with)?

Date: 2011-07-06 07:43 pm (UTC)I think Kara'd be quite a good PE/Gym teacher, art teacher or even possibly an English Lit teacher (the poetry quoting in Final Cut comes to mind). I think she must have it in her because she was a Viper instructor so she can't be completely incapable of imparting her knowledge to others.
I think Lee'd teach something less hands on. Maths or Law comes to mind. I know Law is because he expresses an interest at the end of S3, but I'm not sure why maths. He just kind of struck me as a maths teacher type.
Kara'd be that really cool teacher that I think everyone has, who would keep pushing the boundaries of accepted student/teacher conduct (you know she'd swear in front of the students for example). She'd also have a ball at the post work drink and bitch sessions, but I think she'd always be behind on her marking.
Lee'd be the kind of uncool teacher. I think he would keep order with few problems (if he can be deal with Kara as CAG and the Pegasus crew as their Commander then he can deal with students), but I don't think he'd be the teacher that's known for being cool. I think he would be the kind of teacher to go the extra mile for his students though.
Also, can you imagine the opportunities in school supply closets...? ;)

Date: 2011-07-06 07:59 pm (UTC)They do seem like they'd be born instructors and good at keeping order in the classroom, though in rather different ways - like you, I see Lee as the geekier one, but still student-friendly (and if he taught sixth-form college, he'd also probably have quite a few of his students inappropriately crushing on him, hee!) And YES to pilots-as-teachers-outmaking-in-supply-closets, such a delicious possibility!

Date: 2011-07-06 08:01 pm (UTC)1. Kara and kids (like pre-teen kids) would be a no-no. idk why but really... her own kids yes, a classroom of them, no.
2. i'm there with you on Lee teaching math. again, idk why. he just seems like the type of the cool (on both meanings of it) math prof. or maybe even better physics - and there we do have the explanation - the scene in the mini with the generators. and law is clearly and option.
3. i agree with the fact that Kara would be the kind of teacher that can will push the boundaries and about that extra mile in Lee's case. but i do think that he would be cool. especially for some older students (around 22-25, like mine). not in the same way as Kara, like the kind to go to parties and stuff with but the kind of teacher that you go and ask all kind of strange things and he will have the knowledge and patience to answer you. i mean, he does have the patience to deal with this other teacher that does all those crazy things - doesn't he?
ETA: how did i forgot - school supply closets... i can see the possibilities *grins*

Date: 2011-07-06 08:29 pm (UTC)Oh yes, absolutely. I can't see Kara teaching pre-teens at all.
maybe even better physics - and there we do have the explanation - the scene in the mini with the generators
I'd managed to forget about that. Yes, now you've reminded me I could see Lee teaching Physics :)
but the kind of teacher that you go and ask all kind of strange things and he will have the knowledge and patience to answer you
Ooh, definitely. Kara'd be the cool-crazy teacher who would swear in class and go off plan frequently, but Lee would be the cool-understanding teacher. The one you'd go to if you had a problem with anything.

Date: 2011-07-06 08:17 pm (UTC)ANYWAY, if Lee was a politician he would need a bodyguard (hasn't something like that actually been written?) Or I could totally see them both as teachers or professors who teach very different subjects but manage to strike up a few conversations in the lounge.
Ooh! OR they could be some type of extracurricular coaches for competing schools and have a strange kinda friendship/rivalry over saying "My team is gonna have yours for dinner on Friday night, bitch!"

Date: 2011-07-07 02:58 am (UTC)An alternative would be having Kara a firefighter & Lee an EMT.

Date: 2011-07-08 05:54 am (UTC)Nine: Menacingly - 'I'm the oncoming storm,' Kara: 'Your rack or mine?'
Ten: Hollowly - 'But I love Rose Tyler,' Kara: 'She's in another universe, let alone a planet, get over it and lets compare spaceships.'
Eleven: 'Fez's are cool!', Kara: 'Not as cool as my Viper helmet flyboy.'
Okay, so perhaps I've given this way to much thought. :)
