I'm taking LJ to Court! *grumbles*
Apr. 5th, 2011 05:22 am
Congratulations Shippers! You were out in FINE FORM yesterday and we broke 100 fabulous comments – including fantastic fiction, vids and more! So seeing as today is Tuesday – and we’ve had time to warm up our creativity – I challenge you to bring out see even more participation today! In fact... your NEW requirement is now 75 comments per manip. (Come on... I KNOW you can do it!) So for every 75 comments, I will put together a MANIP (again, to a max of 5.)
Today’s Sweeps week topic is Lee Adama’s favourite television drama: Law and Order... and in connection, lawyers. The Tuesday No_Takebacks Challenge ?
Closing Arguments
Throughout Kara and Lee’s lengthy (if not always public) relationship, there’s been a fair share of blame for why things didn’t work out. It’s interesting to hear non-K/L shippers talk about the dysfunction of their relationship, and not be able to see the impossible connection that others of us (like the members of this comm) find undeniable.
So let’s put a stop to that, shall we? There MUST be a reason we all feel this way. And wishy washy doesn’t cut it, peeps...
I WANT PROOF!
Your task today is to:
1) Find / create (go ahead and tamper) EVIDENCE that PROVES they are meant to be together.
2) This evidence can be in ANY form you wish: written, screencapped, manipped, vidded or otherwise. As long as it demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt that Lee and Kara were MEANT to be together. (Check out ddt73’s HOT vid from yesterday and you’ll see that a picture is often worth at thousand words...)
3) PUBLISH this evidence in the comments.
4) And as always... when you’ve tossed in your two cents, come on back to comment / argue / extend / respond to other people’s comments. This is where the comment thread REALLY build up... so get commenting! My Photoshopping skills are just WAITING for the challenge! :>D

And that (hopefully) solves the epic FAIL of LJ today.

Date: 2011-04-05 11:40 am (UTC)Second Chances (1/2)
Date: 2011-04-05 02:10 pm (UTC)"Oh, gods, I missed you, Kara. I missed you."
"Okay, okay. Me, too."
Tears are coming down his cheeks in front of the entire flight deck but he doesn't notice, just grips harder and buries his face in her neck. Joy, brighter than anything he's ever felt, surges up inside him, white and hot and blazing with a sharp metallic tang. This is the moment he's dreamed about, losing himself in sleep whenever he could get it, Dee facing away from him in their narrow rack.
Other footsteps approach: Sam. She turns her head and loosens her grip and for a second he can't let it happen and then she pushes him harder away and approaches her husband. Lee's hand lingers and he watches them. For a brief second he feels bonded to Sam, sharing some rush of happiness that she's back, alive, unbelievably alive.
There's a shuffle of feet and a booming voice. "Starbuck." His father orders the guards and Kara's confused as hell.
"My ship's clock reads six hours and change."
"Then your clock's wrong, Kara. Sam's telling you the truth. We thought you were dead." His voice almost breaks when he says the words, then he stutters, wanting to say more, to scoop her into his arms again.
Kara steps back, shocked and stares up at the Admiral, and before he can say another word, the Marines are hauling her off to sick bay. He glances at Sam, nods and follows. He's not done.
Second Chances (2/2)
Date: 2011-04-05 02:15 pm (UTC)She's sitting on the bed, her flightsuit stripped down around her waist. She looks up and gives him a half smile. "I really know how to make an entrance, huh?" He blinks and then they laugh. A good long laugh that sucks the tension right out of the room. "Yeah, Kara. You always do."
He sits at the end of the bed and looks at her, takes in her face, every single feature as if she still might disappear or he might wake up and realize it's a dream. He's had them before. He and Kara standing in a green field and then she's gone, poofed away when he turns around to speak to her. His hands would clench unconsciously in his sleep, reaching out for something that was gone and he'd wake with the smell of fresh grass in his nose.
That's all done now and he's feeling sharp and bright and completely connected to her as they sit in the unromantic confines of the white curtain in sick bay.
She doesn't really meet his eyes, just stares past him and he imagines she's trying to take it all in. "We thought you were dead." He swallows hard against stinging eyes. "You have no idea, Kara. No frakking idea what that was like." His voice does break because he can't stop it and her eyes flash to him.
"Lee..." she says, using that tone she always does when she wants to slow him down, make him stop talking because maybe he'll say something she isn't ready to hear. He ignores her.
"No, Kara. I'm saying it. I'm saying what I should have said all those months ago when I had the frakking chance. I love you. I can't frakking sit here and pretend we're just going to be friends. I can't."
Her eyes are wide and she opens her mouth to speak, but he raises a hand to stop her. "No, let me finish. You disappeared into that storm. I saw it. You ripped out my frakking guts and didn't come back. I nearly didn't come back. I thought about it. I almost went in after you - but dad was screaming at me over the comm. I couldn't do it." He takes a breath. His words are tumbling out and he can't really stop them. "I'm sorry, but I couldn't go in after you."
All the guilt he didn't even know he was holding came back in a rush of emotion. He thought it was because he trusted her, ignored that she might not be okay, and then she'd died anyway. It hadn't been that at all. It'd been the deep feeling that he'd abandoned her, left her alone to die in that storm and then came back to live. His throat is tight, aching, and his words suddenly dry up. He looks at her and she's watching him.
"Don't even frakking say that, Lee. Don't you ever do that. Don't you ever think about getting yourself killed." Her words are hot and angry and her eyes are getting red. There's something powerful and undeniable between them, that unrelenting connection that's pushed both of them to hurt and cheat and do things Lee can barely stand to think about.
There's a heavy silence between them, with things half-said, maybe too much that's been said. He doesn't know where to go from here and he stares hard at the wall behind the bed as the tension slowly eases around them.
"So, you love me?" Kara asks, her tone so light and warm that it's almost as shocking as her return.
"What?" He blushes deep red. "Yeah. I do." He puts his hand on her leg and squeezes. She puts her hand over his.
"Well, what are you waiting for then?" She gives him a look full of promise, leans forward and pulls him into a kiss.

Date: 2011-04-05 05:22 pm (UTC)Unfinished Business proves what happened on NC wasn't just a one night thing. May have taken beaten the bullshit out of each other to get to the truth, but they got there.
The brig scene in Six of One, especially the extended version proves despite everything they still belong to each other IMHO. :)

Date: 2011-04-05 08:33 pm (UTC)– One silver ring, formerly worn by Kara Thrace in what was considered to be an expression of loyalty to her engagement to one Zak Adama (deceased).
– One military dogtag, formerly belonging to Kara Thrace, given to Samuel Anders (deceased) on Caprica as a promise to return.
– One arm tattoo (photograph of), sported by Kara Thrace as a sign of marriage to Samuel Anders (deceased) in lieu of a wedding ring.
– One arm tattoo (photograph of), sported by Samuel Anders (deceased) as a sign of same.
– One silver wedding ring, worn by Leland Adama to signify his marriage to Anastasia Dualla (deceased).

*waits out the uproar*
... and I argue:
Date: 2011-04-05 08:34 pm (UTC)Not a single thing.
*significant pause*
And perhaps, now that we take a moment, this very lack begins to strike us in its significance.
Tell me this: when Anastasia Dualla laid her wedding ring down, moments before committing suicide, did that gesture make you rage against the final, ultimate severance of their relationship?
Did Samuel Anders's winged tattoo, flying with him on his final flight into the heart of the sun, fill you with the need and certainty of seeing that tattoo reunited to hers on the "other side"?
No? What about this: without the benefit of any visible ties testifying to you of their enduring connection with one another, did you physically revolt at the sight of the enforced separation of Kara Thrace and Leland Adama upon the surface of Earth 2.0, a separation colloquially refered to as "the infamous *poof*"? Did you sense the rending of a whole, a relationship that had weathered the very worst the universe and even the people in the relationship could throw at it? Did you feel the disservice – were you dismayed by the end of the relationship that survived and even thrived in the end of worlds?
If your answer is yes, have you asked yourself why this is? Is it possible – even likely – that these concrete, discrete expressions of allegiance, while real in what they symbolize to the extent that they can, do not reflect the deepest spiritual reality? That, in fact, they cannot?
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury (or tribunal), I submit that this is, in fact, the case. That the connection between Kara Thrace and Leland Adama is on a plane that cannot be reduced to a symbolic representation. Not a ring, not even a pattern of ink on their living skins.
Think of all the times Kara Thrace disappeared, even died or seemed to die. Was a piece of the material universe needed to guarantee she would return to Leland Adama's side?
Think of all the times Leland Adama rejected Kara Thrace, and vice versa. Think of all the times they frakked up their relationship, and themselves, and on how many levels. No visible sign linked them, but there was no power in the universe that could keep them from reuniting, no matter how much distance, time, and events had separated them.
Think of the destinies and responsibilities placed separately on these two individuals, the people and even the gods who laid the burdens of carrying the human and cylon races to their final safe haven. And think of how, in spite of these separate, equally crushing demands of the most powerful forces around them leading them on different paths, they always found the way to bring their paths back together.
But how could they do otherwise? They were tasked to pursue their paths with all the considerable strength of their hearts and souls. How could their paths then fail to conform to hearts and souls that were bound on the most elemental level?
Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is my evidence. Not these ornaments that can be held in my hand, seen and weighed and measured, and ultimately only serving as markers of lesser relationships, ones that needed external reinforcement. My evidence needs no evidence. My evidence cannot be carried into this courtroom in a box. It cannot be touched or seen by our eyes. My evidence is more real than that, and so is their connection.
I rest my case.

Date: 2011-04-05 08:47 pm (UTC)*** *** ***
He may be the Admiral of the Colonial Fleet but Bill feels only the part of a father while he awaits his son and Kara Thrace in his quarters. He’s not sure it’s the right venue, but the churning in his stomach, the desperate need to protect, keeps him rooted in his familiar. This space is his home, has been and will be. He relishes the sanctuary, the art and the souvenirs of life lived well and long.
Kara’s wearing tanks and fatigues when she arrives, out of place for a reprimand. The father in Bill wants to have her change, but there’s something comforting about Kara in her usually garb so he lets it go, nodding without a word of greeting. She stands stiffly at ease as her commander paces a furrow behind the heavy wooden desk. With a jerk he pulls open a drawer and produces a small, gray, velvet box and stomps away.
A few tense minutes later, Lee Adama enters, still straight and proper from his watch. He glances with n frantic pace from his father to Kara and back again. His eyes go wide as Bill Adama takes up a position in front of his desk. Kara follows without pause, but Lee hangs near the hatch until he’s beckoned with a sharp hand to join them. Bill meets his eyes and glares the glare of a father, nearly smirking as his son sinks into a more subordinate pose.
“What were you thinking?” Bill barks into the face of Kara Thrace, suddenly ignoring his son entirely.
“What, sir?” Kara’s brow knits, but her tone is neither confused nor contrite. At her side, Lee stays silent, waiting out the storm.
“Did you ever love him?” His jaw is firmly set, his eyes filled with ire, his words spitting towards her. “Or did you just need a toy to play with? Did my son mean nothing to you?”
“He was every… Of course, I… Zak gave me my… My heart.” She gasps, coming on stronger than anyone would have guessed.
“That you give away as though it were nothing!” Bill’s shout echoes in the room, rocking knick knacks on the shelves.
“Not nothing, sir…” Kara snaps back.
“Nothing!” Bill roars.
“Stop it! Just stop it!” Lee’s voice shakes, and it would be easy to discount his words, but he steps towards his father, his Admiral. “Don’t…”
“Don’t what? My CAG is breaking frat regs with his lead pilot. My son is frakking his dead brother’s fiancé. This is conduct unbecoming an officer. You should be in the brig. You should be ashamed. I will not stand for this kind of disrespect! I will not!” Bill Adama slams his fist back into his desk. Small items, the gray, velvet box included jump across the desk. His son and the woman he has tended like a daughter flinch before him.
“It’s not your choice,” Lee forces his voice steady and calm. “It’s not your choice who I love.”
For a blink, Bill Adama goes blank trying to make sense of his son’s words, their simplicity. “Who,” he finally whispers.
“Everything,” Kara starts out the quiet. Both men snap to look at her. “He’s everything. Zak gave me my heart, but Lee’s…” Her face drops to the floor. Her bottom lips sucks quickly in and out of her mouth. She sniffs, “Lee’s my soul.”

In ensuing the silence, Lee snatches up the jewelry box and flips the lid, revealing another silver ring. It features delicate scroll work like the old tattoos of Tauron with an edging matching the ring Lee wears. Kara touches her finger along its curve.
“It was my grandmother’s,” he breathes.
“It’s beautiful,” she smiles
“I think he left it for you.” The corners of Lee’s mouth twitch up as Kara holds out her hand for him.
Then he catches the papers on the blotter. They’re official, formal printing and seals. One requesting married quarters, outdated, but real. The second Lee has to pick up there are many of the lines left unfilled. Reading quickly down the page with Kara peering over his arm, he gets to the signature of Admiral William Adama before it sinks in. This piece of paper will make their marriage real in the eyes of the Colonies, not just the gods.
Kara snatches up a pen and shoves it at Lee. They sink to the floor together, almost giggling as they fill in names of grandparents and try to remember what day it was they stood in the chapel holding hands. Finally, when Lee has their histories spelled out, Kara leans against his shoulder and the desk. She sets her left hand atop his so their rings line up and grins broadly. Lee kisses her nose and sighs.
