Wow. I don't think I've ever seen the extended cut of this before. I think I had forgotten just how real they were together. I've been hiding in fic because the show broke my heart, but we were not imagining it - the relationship between Kara and Lee is not some shipper fantasy. And anyone who thinks it is need only watch that scene. Guh.
I would have loved to see the aurora storyline played out. There was supposed to be more to it. The thing about it? In the podcast for Six of One, he said Adama gave the idol back to Kara. Also for the extended he mentioned the extra dialogue sort of, but not the rest of it. Yet he remembered the scene where Adama gave him the idol, but not the fact he gave him the idol, just the dialogue.
Yeah people can say what they want but it was going somewhere at one point.
Yeah, the Aurara thing always intrigued me a little bit. Kara gave it to Adama, who gave it to Lee, who gave it back to Kara. What did she think about it? What is the meaning behind all this?
I know right! Such a cool storyline idea that they cut, when they left in a bunch of crap. There was also a scene where Lee sits in her pristine viper, which makes him happy, then it's Emolee.
INT. HANGAR DECK - LEE 3 sitting in the cockpit of Kara’s pristine Viper, cordoned off and hunkered in a darkened corner of THE HANGAR DECK. He clutches the FLIGHT STICK that Kara used to shoot herself into legend, feels her grip, takes in her scent. Catches sight of something. A PIECE OF CHEWING GUM, stuck under the instrument panel for safe-keeping. Lee chuckles. Then SIGHS. And sighs again, which evolves into LABORED BREATHING...
I'm sure the above was shot, as there were promo pics of this.
See, I'm not surprised they cut this scene. So tiny, but so key to character building. These are all the moments the show used to excel at displaying in the first two seasons. YOU KNEW HOW CHARACTERS REALLY, AND SOMETIMES SECRETLY, FELT ABOUT THINGS. S4 and S4.5, and to a lesser extent S3, opted for plot over these wonderful character moments so damn often. It's really such a shame.
LOL.... I can totally see that happening. maybe somebody will pick on this idea and write some beautiful angsty story about it. even though your description is really awesome.
The above was from the script. Six of One was very shippy in script form. Still was in reality, but with everything cutted included its shippiness is definitely up a notch or two. ;)
sorry for the misunderstanding. i was under the wrong impression. i hope that you don't mind that my mind (that is currently occupied with a report for work) gave you credit for it :)
It's such a shame they didn't use it. We never really got to see Lee dealing with his pain at Kara's loss. Not nearly enough. Someone who felt as deeply for her as the brig scene shows would have been so devastated by it.
For me, the poof would've beem more poetic and palatable if they had had Kara returning the Aurora figure to Lee before she disappeared. It would've come full circle, you know? I think that could be a good idea for a fic.
Here's the scene from the script. It's very close to what they say in the scene.
19 INT. REC ROOM - LATER - ADAMA AND LEE 19 sit alone together, Adama, riding a pretty good buzz, regards his son with a million things left unsaid, until... ADAMA Political man. Lee nods. Swigs. LEE Maybe I can pull some strings, get your office painted. ADAMA Bring your best bullet to The Quorum, huh? LEE “Politics is just another means of war.” Joe Adama. ADAMA War... (a beat, then...) You know, that, uh, bell you were talking about. It’s gonna ring again. LEE ...Yeah. ADAMA And... you know when you leave this time, you’re not gonna be able to answer it... Not anymore. Lee, his blood probably as potent as vermouth, chuckles. LEE Oh, I see, I see. Get me blotto, then talk me out of it. Right? Lee looks at his father, who regards Lee without judgment, only fondness. Lee abandons the joking, answers sincerely. LEE (cont’d) I know it’s over, Pop. ADAMA Do you? Because it’s still gonna be in you, you’re gonna feel it. Adama edges closer to his son and beckons with a lazy hand, as if he wants him to do the same. Lee leans in closer. He cups his hand around the back of Lee’s neck. ADAMA (cont’d) Right here. Like a whisper in hard shoes, up and down your spine, “Get ready, Get ready...” Adama is buzzed, troubled, drifts a little... ADAMA (cont’d) And... when it calls, you can’t answer it... you’re gonna have to remind yourself that... you’re someone else now. A beat. Then Adama reaches into his pocket. He hands KARA’S FIGURE HEAD to Lee, who takes it. LEE What is it? ADAMA Something that means the world to me that I’m no longer able to keep. (then) I want you to have it. Appreciative, Lee regards the figure head, then... LEE Dad... I want to see Kara. ADAMA So do I... So do I... STAY ON THE FIGURE HEAD as Lee’s palm closes over it.
Besides making me tear up--I've always been conflicted what Kara thought about Adama giving the Aurora figure to Lee? What do you others make of her reaction?
The whole thing is interesting. We never got a chance to find out what it meant to these characters. I find it interesting that when Adama gives him Aurora that Lee's mind immediately goes to Kara. Why did Adama give it to Lee?
As far as what Kara thought, she probably was conflicted. It meant something to her that Lee gave it to her, but the fact that Adama gave it away after she gave it to him would bother her. It does say in the script she was personally devastated when she saw the Aurora idol, and I think this is what it was referring to.
Ultimately it was a symbol for hope of the future for them I think originally, but of course RDM cut it and probably was a sign it wasn't going to end well for them in RDM's mind.
I try to refer back to this scene when feelings of S4 disillusionment set in.
When Kara says, "except me", I always think that she's referring back to her asking Lee if he would still leave Dee if she left Sam. He never actually says no, but obviously it was implied.
