Thank you for joining our second day of the “Feed the Muse” DPP week. I am
angelicalangie aka Angel and yesterday, we discussed fictional works that managed help inspire us. We even shared some of how we wrote. (and it certainly got me writing once more.)
Today we are going to explore Music.
Music for myself is a vital part of my writing. It is my one constant companion so what gets you revved up. Do you pick certain pieces for certain sections, do you have tracks that typify certain characters? What music do you listen to when writing, vidding, creating icons or manips. How does music play into your piloty world?
Also what songs or pieces of music make you think of the pilots? Have you ever sat in the car, on public transportation and gone; "Oh that lyric is so about this for Kara or Lee." or "This makes me think of Kara's flying."
Also what kind of music would Lee and Kara listen to?
Here is your chance to inspire each other via music! Share and share a like.

Date: 2011-02-01 04:56 pm (UTC)I would picture Kara splitting her musical time between Classical (because it reminds her of her father) and Metal. With a definite preference for Metallica over AC/DC.
Lee likes drums. Primal and traditional. But I'm willing to be there's some Alternative and Metal in his playlist, too.
Unless the lyrics of the song work with the story I'm trying to tell, I usually avoid songs with lyrics that I understand while I'm writing, so my playlist ends up being mostly world music (belly dance, african, celtic, taiko) and the very occasional classical piece.

Date: 2011-02-01 05:21 pm (UTC)Hmm I imagine Lee to be fairly neutral about music and not have very strong feelings about it. Kara identifies with her father's music a lot, but when she's driving her hummer on Caprica she likes to blast rock music or maybe thrash metal. ;)

Date: 2011-02-01 06:23 pm (UTC)As for what I would think Kara and Lee would listen to... I think Kara would probably listen to go back and forth between folk and rock music. Kara would only listen to her dad's classical music when she's feeling particularly nostalgic. And Lee would listen to alternative and grunge rock. He wouldn't like new music and he would only like to listen to music that was around when he was in high school and college.

Date: 2011-02-01 06:37 pm (UTC)I've only written a handful of times, but generally I like silence when I both write and read. I need my brain to completely live in that moment and music distracts from that. I can listen to classical at a low volume, but I usually prefer nothing at all. Brainstorming, however - be it for a story idea or vid concept idea and/or both I will listen to a mix of music that puts me in character mode.
With vidding - it is of course the song I'm vidding to on repeat until I'm sick of it. Sometime the music is based on the feel of the music vs. the lyrics, but generally I like music that is literal in it's lyrics. Simply because it makes it easier to build a "story" and not get lost in translation as they say. I often worry what I'm interpreting in my brain won't come across in a vid, so I feel literal lyrics help tell that story.
As for what pilots would listen to? I've been really hoping that it would be a DPP since I've been coming around here. I will have to come back this evening however to give my analysis of them and what/why I think they would listen to what they do.
ETA: Speaking of music that reminds me of pilots...
I've made 3 K/L fanmixes + 1 Lee and 1 Kara mix. If anyone's interested (here (http://wand3rlust.livejournal.com/tag/fanmix)). They're all songs I relate to pilots. :)

Date: 2011-02-03 03:14 am (UTC)What Kara would listen to:
I honestly imagine Kara to be a pretty eclectic music listener. Everything from hip hop to jazz to rock and folk. I can see her liking any kind of music that will get her moving as well as having a nice chill out mix of music too. Though, like Cosette mentioned above, I would imagine she only listens to piano/classical in small doses for obvious reasons.
Also for some reason Kara strikes me as the kind of person who would learn to play the drums just to annoy the hell out of her mother. :p
For Lee:
To me he actually strikes me as a closet romantic. I like to imagine he secretly likes big-band style music like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Maybe his mom played it when he was a kid? And in my head he secretly like country ballads too. haha! However, in his every day life I see him as an alternative rock kind of person who listens to the occasional top 40 type music. He doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would obsess about music one way or the other. He likes it, it's pleasant sounding but he's got better things to do with his day.
