Friday has a name. And the name that it has, besides Friday, is SPAM DAY.

In other words (words not stolen from Dr. Horrible): Today's post is a free-for-all! Tell us what you're up to right now, what your plans for the weekend are. Introduce yourself if you're new to the comm/ship. Post pics or gifs. Share unpopular opinions. Talk about the latest book you read or movie you saw that reminded you of BSG/pilots.

In other *other* words: What's up, Shipper Nation?!

I watched Brothers with Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman the other day, but it didn't really remind me of Lee/Zak/Kara that much. Jake was the good-for-nothing druggie bro and Tobey was the nice/good-guy soldier bro, and in his absence (being tortured as a POW) Jake steps in to take care of the family and he has a mild attraction to Natalie that is maybe reciprocated.

The girl who played the older daughter (maybe she was 7 or 8?) was really very impressive though. And it was interesting to see Maguire go absolutely bugshit. He's always the mild-mannered guy usually.

I could see him being really scary in that role. There's something about when "nice people" lose their shit that's decidedly unnerving.

He was quite scary. I was talking aloud to the TV at the very climax because you just weren't sure how it was gonna go.

That he made his confession and she just hugged him?

It really would've been better if they'd shown him getting some serious long-term help, eh?

Guh! You know, the thing about that last gif is that he's totally picking her up and pushing her against the racks. OMG. So frakking hot.

*can't stop staring*

Yes. I wish we got a full body shot of that actually. And I just am a little obsessed by the way her hand is just like skimming his neck and between his shoulder blades with the urgency to just touch him everywhere. Rowr.

Yeah, that's pretty damn mesmerizing. I'm also imagining that he's got his hands under her ass when he picks her up. EEEEEE!

Am I the only one who thinks that's our newly elected Speaker of the House John Boehner's voice sounds EXACTLY LIKE the serial killer dude in Silence of the Lambs? I get the heebie geebies every time I hear him talking.

Tell me I'm not the only one here...

Why is it that the "so close" moments make me as sad as they make me happy somedays?

I've been writing this week! Sent off an original short story for a second round of feedback earlier this week, and spent the morning tweaking a children's board book that I wrote a couple years ago, and am thinking I want to send to a friend of mine who is a children's book illustrator, to get her opinion on it. It's kind of exciting. I've also got one chapter of Echoes off with my beta, and a second chapter nearly ready to go. And started working on an outline for an original novel.

Please, oh please, let this level of success continue for the next 12 months.

I'm reading brokenmneumonic's Fractured, finally, and really enjoying it. Also making icons for iconic_lee. (Which needs more icons (http://community.livejournal.com/iconic_lee/23638.html)! Go make some!)

And I think I might actually be able to finish my quilt, finally, next week. I'm pinning the border on this afternoon, possibly sewing it as well. Then I'll just need to tie it together. I've been working on this blanket for a decade. Literally. I can't figure out if this means that I'm going to have to keep patching it as time goes on or if I'm going to be so sick of working on it that if this doesn't work out it's going straight into the trash.

You know. Same old, same old. :)

The short story is about a guy who falls into a mirror in a fun house. And that's all I'm gonna say about that. ;)

The children's book is a very short piece, that deals with separation anxiety. A mom is going out for the night, and her baby is nervous, so she gives her a blanket that used to be hers, talks about it a little and promises to be back in the morning.

And. These are (hopefully) my jobs. I'm not going into an office, but this is my work. I'm just lucky that we can afford for me to work at such piecemeal stuff. And take so long at it.

So am I!

I'm giving my husband two weeks to go through the first chapter, and if he doesn't manage it, I'm going to be asking around for someone else to do the beta for me, 'cause as much as I appreciate his feedback, I also appreciate it actually getting done.

Hi! Well, let's see ...

I saw Black Swan the other day and I kinda liked it. It's funny, I liked it more when I left the theatre and less as time went by. It was an interesting movie and I think Natalie Portman is a shoo-in for an Oscar nod.

I've been reading the Harry Potter books and well, more on that later. I want to reserve my final opinion until I've read all of them.

In TV news, my biggest sigh of relief right now is that Grey's continues to kick ass this season. So far not a single bad episode and that says a lot, IMO considering all of last year sucked big time. Can't wait for Fringe to start over again. Oh, and the Top Chef All Stars is pretty damn good too. Super exciting stuff. BFF gave me a collector's edition of Six Feet Under for Xmas and I have to work myself up to watching it, but I hear it's excellent.

Any way, in fandom news .... I'M WRITING! I'm so excited. I'm writing every day and yes [livejournal.com profile] kag523 and [livejournal.com profile] taragel, I am writing FI :-)

That's about it. I do miss BSG a lot, tbh. I don't feel that there are any shows on TV right now that are as epic as BSG. I love Fringe, but ... doesn't even come close to OUR show.

YAY! I can't wait for the next installment of FI! Especially now that I've read Pride and Prejudice.

I bought a washing machine. I'm trying to be excited about having to make a huge, unplanned purchase by reminding myself I hate my current (now non-functional) washer. Kind of wish I was getting a dryer too.

I have a writing plan if not any actually writing.

I really want to buy yarn.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go sit in the cold and watch the Seahawks play the Saints.

Were you able to get what you really wanted? 'Cause that can sometimes balance out the poor timing.

Writing plan! Yay!

Enjoy the game. Maybe the cold will inspire your knitting. :)

I've been wanting a front loading washer since we bought our house, but we had to gut the bathroom first. I think I'm going to get a dryer when we get our tax return. *squee* (yeah, I squee about household appliances.)

Yarn would inspire my knitting. I need to go yarn shopping.

I've been having fun watching the DVDs I got for Christmas. That includes the 1980s version of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" with Kevin Kline (MUCH easier to catch all the word-play with subtitles!), the 1970s oldschool!Doctor Who episode "The Brain of Morbius" (I love you Tom Baker!) and the BBC miniseries "Sherlock." I've loved Holmes and Watson since I was a kid, and this modern update is marvelous.

John: "This is how you get your kicks, isn't it? You risk your life to prove you're clever."
Sherlock: "Why would I do that?"
John: "Because you're an idiot."

So fun!

Hee! I'm glad you love it, too! And the fandom for that show is insanely productive right now, there are tons of stories and vids coming out basically every day. Much fun to be had :)

Firefly FTW - Nathan Fillion. I love the episode that starts with him being completely nekkid (such puerile, simple joys for silly minds like mine!)
