Oops. I'm so sorry, nazkey! I got distracted by family and then Stewart was on and, well, I'm such a sucker for him. (Also I was laughing at Survivor.)
Hee. Is okay bb. I watched the epi any way. I've only seen S3 (& S4/4.5) once, so I didn't remember a lot of the details. It's a great epi and it's the one that finally made me like Lee! We'll catch you in a couple of weeks for part 2.
Oops didn't realize this was today (well yesterday now).
Well all I'll say about this eppy was this is where Lee becomes his own man.
Without Kara around, it made it too hard to stay in the military. His father's tirade against him opened his eyes and made him accept he didn't want it any more. Gave him the push to make that jump.
Dee leaving Lee, I believe was as much about her realizing how much Lee loved Kara compared to what he felt for her. There was a deleted scene from TSAR where Dee is laying in bed, with her back turned to Lee. On the surface L&D act like there is nothing wrong, but you see Lee go guilty grab Kara's photo from a book, and then leave their quarters. They then show Dee's depressed face. Silently saying she finally knows for sure that she can never compete with Lee's feeling for Kara. With this in mind looking at what happened in Xroads1, shows much like Adama's tirade gave Lee the final push to leave the military, Lee's decision to defend Baltar gave her the final push to leave him. If she left in TSAR what could she say? She finally realizes she can't compete with Kara any more, even after she's dead?
When Dee says "I do understand, and that's why I'm leaving". I believe she's as much referring to her understanding how much Lee loves Kara as anything else.
I'm so glad you brought up that deleted scene. The thing about the deleted stuff on BSG is that they're not just fluffy things that don't add anything to the plot. They contain vital information and give a lot of depth to some of the scenes that just isn't there when you don't know about them. Wow. Did that sentence even make sense? You know what I mean :-)
Sorry you missed the re-watch. The last three epi's of S3 are some of my favorites. It's when I actually started to fall in love with Lee. Don't miss the next one! It's Lee's awesome speech at Baltar's trial!
I know, it's crazy how much good and clarifying deleted scenes are out there. Oddly enough, I just watched a deleted clip that ddt73 posted (HERE (http://ddt73.livejournal.com/2000.html)) from "Taking a Break..." which really fleshes out that whole tense How do I know you're not going to do a 180 on me again scene.
If I ever get enough free time and the software to rip & convert a collection of deleted clips I will try my hardest put something together for everyone. But first I still have to watch and find them all. haha
Edit: Oh and I wanted to add, that I totally agree about starting to really fall in love with Lee. I was so happy they finally gave his character some direction and I LOVE his speech at the trial (no matter how skeezy Baltar is) and his standing up to his dad and just tons of other stuff, but I'll gush on that later when you do the re-watch. :)
