Episode 1 - Post Unfinished Business can be found by clicking here

Today we're jumping up one episode to
"The Passage"

The entire fleet is cranky and hungry from strict food rationing.  Athena has found the algae planet and in order to get there the fleet has to travel through the radiation filled gas cloud.  Tensions are high, plans need to be made, and since it's been crisis after crisis with the fleet and fighter squadron the pilots still haven't been able to figure out where they stand.  Here's a handy episode rundown courtesy of Battlestar Wiki if you need specifics.

But first to catch you up....

Previously on the NT RPG:

We started the story at the end of UB and Lee and Kara remained laying in the boxing ring after everyone had gone.  The knuckledraggers were ordered by Tigh to get the hanger deck back into shape.  Helo came along and saved the day by getting the pilots up and off the deck.

Lee went on his own to the head to shower and clear his mind of all that had transpired at the dance.  Helo had another plan and dropped Starbuck right back into his lap by delivering her over his shoulder to the head.  The crew was sure to start gossiping so Starbuck cleared the room and she and Lee got down to talking about the current state of their relationship.  Lee won’t cheat and tells Kara he wants more, Kara admits leaving him in the field and marrying Anders was a mistake and lets it slip that there is more to her abduction on New Caprica.  Lee pushes and Kara agrees to talk to him about Leoben and what happened during the occupation

Meanwhile, Roslin sits with Adama in Sickbay while he’s getting patched up from his round with the Chief.  Cottle reprimands the old man and orders him off duty for 24 hrs.  The President escorts the Admiral back to his quarters and along the way they run into Col. Tigh who lets the cat out of the bag about Starbuck and Apollo’s night on New Caprica.  Adama is, of course, dumbfounded.  Once in Bill’s quarters Laura tells him that Kara would look to the stars at night and see Pegasus passing and that now she understood that all those months on New Caprica, Kara was missing Lee.

Chief and Cally were trying to sort out the crew chatter about the Dance and find out if the deck gang was doing their jobs or gossiping.  Helo and Athena discuss their friends and hope that none of them get hurt in the mess.  Sleep eludes Karl and he makes his way to the Gym where Starbuck is already going at the punching bag, the two talk and Kara confides in Helo about her situation with Sam and Lee.  He reminds her that she deserves to be happy.

Kat’s avoiding all the drama by heading to the firing range and in walks Sam Anders.  Sam knows he’s eventually going to have to face his wife but refuses to be the one to run after her.  Kat and Sam both shoot off a few rounds and Kat feels bad for the man as she has witnessed what a Starbuck dressing down does to a nugget, she invites him for a drink.

After his conversation about New Caprica with Kara in the ready room, Lee makes a decision that no matter what happens he’s leaving Dee.  He makes his way back to his quarters and begins to pack when Dee walks in.  Kara exhausted from the dance and talking, returns to the head to grab a shower before her lunch date with Apollo.

People all over Galactica know that things have changed and everyone wonders what will happen next…

I know this has been posted 100X but people like to have it at the ready instead of going back to older posts....

Kara had been avoiding Sam for days. It wasn't too hard when you didn't even live on the same ship, but she'd been making a good point of not being around if he was there. Best course of action? Probably not. But she was exhausted and pissed off--and hungry, but she tried not to think about that one--but she was becoming aware of the fact that the longer she put off confronting Sam, the more of a mess everything felt. So, when she heard through the Galactica grapevine that Sam was down by the memorial hallway, she figured she'd better suck it up and get it over with.

She rounded the corner and, for a moment, just watched Sam standing there among the photographs and notes and candles. Her husband. Not for much longer, though. A small part of her wanted to turn and leave before he could see her. Why the frak did this bother her so much? When she was younger, always leave first had been one of her main rules of a relationship. Of course, that was before Zak. You think she'd have learned her lesson after that. Then again, she was pretty damned sure she'd never get married after Zak, and look how that turned out.

Kara dug her hands into her pockets as she strode up to him. She'd made a vow to the gods to loves this man until death. Not the first time she'd lied by a long shot, but never to the gods before. Whatever. She'd had enough sins under her belt, what was one more?

When Kara's approach slid into Sam's awareness, he was rather unsurprised, and he didn't even have a very immediate reaction. With only a sidelong glance at the blonde figure, he let out a sigh.

"You know, I always look at these, and wonder just how embarrassed these people would be by these pictures. Some of them are really...really bad." The conversational comment wasn't to stall or distract or put on any airs; he used to do this all the time down on New Caprica when he could tell Kara's head was somewhere up in the stars instead of close to him, as if to give her the space to pretend things were fine, but now it was almost an imitation of that just for old time's sake. He didn't look at her to see the little grimace of a smile she was probably wearing, but then he had to look up at her and scoff uncomfortably, and say, "Should we do this here or somewhere else?"

It was in that moment Kara realized he wasn't going to put up a fight. She should've known. Sam rarely put up a fight. He wasn't going to try to scream or beg or make a scene; she knew Sam loved her and now he was just... going to let her go. A little bit of her hated him for that.

"Is there any good place to end a marriage, Sammy?" she asked. Sure, it wasn't the lightest way to put it, but no point in mincing words at this point. Maybe the memorial hall wasn't the worst place in the world. It was, after all, meant for dead things.

Sam watched her eyes skitter with an instinctive show of respect over the endless collage of photos and wondered if she was having the same thought as he did, that they were ending it quietly in one of the few places in the universe that felt like a church or somewhere else where you'd never dare to raise your voice at somebody.

"I think it might be better than where you chose to start ours, all things considered." Sam scratched at the back of his neck. There were about a million thoughts knocking at his mind right now, and he took a long moment to sort out the most petty and bitter things he wanted to say. What came out was crooked with the sour humor he found himself having about the memory: "There's something I should have asked you, a long time ago, soon after you got my ass off Caprica...You wanna know what it was?"

Kara cast a sideways glance at Sam, looking at his face in the florescent lighting and tried to remember what it looked like in the sun by the river as she forced herself to believe that she had made the right choice. She should have known right then, but that flight instinct was too damned strong.

"What?"

At the back of his mind was a scattering of memories from that time when they'd seemed to grab onto each other in a constant giddy rush of finally feeling relieved to just be alive and with each other for a time. And that first night, after he'd met Lee Adama, maybe the question was there in him even then. Strange how he could doubt something from the very beginning and still want it, settle for it and bargain with it, and even now he found himself wanting certainty of something even if it wasn't about him and Kara. When he said the question now, it wasn't just quoting his own old thoughts, but asking it in the present.

"So, this guy Apollo..." Sam asked, weakly mock-casual, "Do you love him?"

Kara stared straight ahead and answered him plainly. "Yeah. I do." Okay, so maybe she wasn't shouting it to the sky, like she had that night--the night she'd never tell Sam about, the night before she frakking married the man. But she didn't need to. It was a simple fact, and for some reason, saying it out loud, made her feel a little bit better. She turned to watch for Sam's reaction.

Sam wasn't going to tell her he was impressed or proud of her or anything, for finally plainly setting the cards out on the table like that. At some point he'd started half-expecting their marriage to end in a slow agitating burn littered with hypocrisy, and he found an almost freeing feeling in her honesty, but he wasn't ready to say it to her. He wasn't ready to actually wish her well.

"And you know he loves you," he said, just to make sure.

Kara shut her eyes remembering the way Lee cornered her in the head. The intensity of his confession had been overwhelming and somewhat frightening. But there was no doubt he loved her. "He does."

It felt odd to leave it at that. She turned to Sam finally facing him. "So, Sammy... Any regrets?"

Sam felt a rueful smile in his expression as he found it easier than he would have expected to look at her more directly. "I guess if you can consider something a mistake without regretting a minute of it...then no. Not really. But I think that's a conversation for a better day, if you know what I mean."

He didn't want to ask her if she was going to keep in touch; it probably felt too early for either of them to really grasp what things would be like between them now. Since they'd never been married on paper and the priests didn't handle the divorces, this was really all that was necessary, and the way it was suddenly over felt unceremonious somehow. He'd given her dog tag back already; the tattoos would never come off. For now he was suspended in a listless pause, not even sure if he should go for a last hug or last kiss, so he leaned into the wall and found himself just saying, "You take care, alright?"

Kara shoved her hands in her pockets, holding her hand out for a handshake felt awkward. It wasn't what they did. Kara tried to think- what were their things. The things that had been for them and only them. She found herself coming up empty. "Yeah. You too." She turned to go. It had been a simple, painless farewell but it still felt somewhat sour. Like the end of a marriage should be more than a few words in a hallway. Then again, it really hadn't been much of a marriage. "See you around, Sam." Kara didn't know if it was the truth. But after all this she figured he could handle one last lie.
