DPP: Alternate Universes

Lee and Kara are timeless. Our fandom is spilling over with great AU works. Let's talk about how you like to imagine Lee and Kara outside of their post-apocolyptic space adventure.

Wikipedia gives the following definition at the page on Alternate Universes:

Commonly abbreviated AU, stories of this type are usually what-ifs, where possibilities arising from different circumstances or character decisions are explored. Unlike regular fan fiction, which generally remains within the boundaries of the canon set out by the author, alternative universe fiction writers like to explore the possibilities of pivotal changes made to characters' history, motivations or environment.

Link to your fav AU pieces (have you read rayruz's Did I Fall Alseep Dollhouse crossover?), write something new (comment!fic will get you a virtual cookie), hypothesize about other universes where the characters of Kara and Lee are still our pilots without necessarily being pilots, per se.

I think there are ways to get them both on Caprica for D-Day. Lee is easy. All you have to do it have the cylons attack before he arrives on Galactica. I like the idea of having Kara request leave so she won't see him at the decommissioning or maybe she takes leave right before the decommissioning to gather her courage because she's going to see Lee and she ends up in missing her shuttle or getting in a fight and is in hack when the cylon's attack.

Getting them together is pretty easy. All you have to do is give Lee previous knowledge of Kara's stockpile of guns, and then you have them both end up at her apartment in Delphi.

You can have them meet up with Helo and Sharon (who they wouldn't know is a cylon) and eventually Lee and Kara, Helo and Sharon can come across the resistance fighters. Insanity ensues.

Nah, see I wanted them together (not together-together, just in the same locality) when the actual attack starts. I just have this image of them being out in the wilderness somewhere when they see the first flash of a nuclear detonation on the horizon and wondering what the frak is going on. Of course, I'm not too sure whether one can actually be within viewing distance of a nuclear explosion without suffering from fallout or radiation poisoning- I think it would be ok, though.

Anyway, I realise I'd have to stray in to very AU territory in order to get them in the same place, at the same time, prior to having the end of the worlds forcing them into each others company. Though I do like your idea of Kara taking leave... it would be nice and ironic if in her efforts to avoid Lee, she actually ends up stuck with him for the duration of the apocalypse.

Yeah, that's kind of how I got started. Well, actually it got started with the cut scene from Razor with Lee in the transfer station and how that would be the easiest was to get Lee and Kara together would be for Kara, not Kendra to be in the transfer station. Then I thought military transfer stations would be high priority targets, or should be. But I had to come up with a reason for Kara to be on Caprica, and I thought, hey, what if she's avoiding Lee. :D

The problem is it's kind of easier to avoid a nuclear holocaust if your away from populated and military areas. I'll probably keep thinking though. I have a meeting this evening.
