Trick or Treat?

Even though we skipped ahead and started talking about Christmas yesterday (we're planning a Shipper Secret Santa Exchange here), in just over a week Halloween will be upon us! So I wondered what it would be like if we were to celebrate it, Galactica-Style!



The Crack

 

 

The Costumes

It's tough to find costumes in space, but thankfully the Fleet has that excellent Ikea Ship hanging out in its nether quadrants! Kara and Lee had trouble deciding between some various superhero options, but thankfully, some of their friends found it an easier decision!




 






 
 


The Tricks

It wasn't Halloween if there wasn't a massive egg fight in my neighborhood as a kid. What sort of tricks do you think the Galactica folk got up to? Whose office got TP'ed? Which nugget got algae bombed on his way through the hangar deck? Who ding-dong-ditched at the commander's hatch? Whose hand got put into a bowl of warm water as they slept, leading to an infortunate rack accident? ;)

Ok, how many of these are NOT Kara-instigated? ;)

After everyone was exhausted, would they sit around and tell ghost stories to each other? Who would get the most scared? (Baltar?)


The Treats 

Candy was at a premium on Galactica. What would the fine crew get instead? Socks? Razors? Cigars? Assuming a treasure trove of sweets WAS procured through the black market, how would they be consumed? Would Lee ration his candy out, controlling himself to only eat one tasty morsel per day to make it last as long as possible? Would Kara cram half her haul down that first night, then get a bellyache and dump the rest with the nuggets the next day? Who would get stuck with the gross candy that no one wanted (i.e. Necco wafers or Good and Plenty)? Who would be the killjoy handing out practical items like toothpaste or dental floss instead of candy? Would there be candy swapping going on? What candy would Kara hate and give to Lee? What candy would he secretly like but give to her because she wheedled it out of him? What other "treats" might all that sweet stuff lead to (wink, wink, nudge nudge)? ;)

OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!! I adore the glimpse of their future (and ha, ha, Kara's nod to cowgirl with the chaps and menacing smile that says You better fucking appreciate this!! OH WIN!)

But oh this got me too:
if it could have crept out while she was sleeping and crawled between her ribs and into her chest, because it does this glorious terrible roaring every time she sees the man Lee is now.

I have such a kink for childhood friends stuff. There is not nearly enough of that (AU) in this fandom. Gah. Wonderful! <3

Thank you <3 I totally have that kink too, and couldn't think if I'd ever seen that type of AU in this fandom, so I kinda had to write it.

I've seen glimpses of it at the start of other, longer stories sometimes, but often they are a bit older/teens. Like the infamous Strawberry Wine of course. And I think Lint138's Wet Hot Caprican Summer starts with them as teens. And Rawles and Hobviously have the very cute Caprica High series.

My favorite friends-as-kids AU for them is the beginning of Rayruz's Hunger Games crossover fic, Fight the Break of Dawn.

(Have to tell you I kept thinking about this little story all the way to work and my thoughts led me to Forrest Gump, with Jenny and Forrest as childhood friends and how I find there to be a lot of similarities with Jenny/Kara and um, a few for Forrest/Lee. Heh. THEY'S LIKE PEAS AND CARROTS, THEY IS!)

Yeah, I love the teen AU stuff too, and there's probably a bit more of it than of them as children. Either way you can never have enough baby!pilots.
This is random, but I STILL crack up whenever I think about that "I wish we were both dead. As friends." line from Caprica High.
And the Forrest Gump comparison made me smile. Kara is kind of a Jenny, isn't she?

P.S. I have a feeling I'm going to get sucked into Hunger Games eventually. It sounds like awesome crossover material.

Oh Hunger Games. The first one is fantastic, the second less so and the third one...has left the fandom divided. As a BSG fan you will probably enjoy and see some interesting correlations. Ray's fic is amazing. As far as I know it's the only BSG/THG crossover out there. Kara, Lee and Zak's backstory just fits so perfectly into that universe.
