[identity profile] kag523.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] no_takebacks

Hello Shipper Nation and welcome to the DPP!  I’m [livejournal.com profile] kag523 , and I’ll be hosting this week’s discussions, games and pretty.

Today’s Daily Pilot’s Post has two important activities for you to participate in...
The first is a twenty-four hour call for nominations
...for the first (annual?) Fandom Oscars.  We all know our tried and true favourites from years past, but for these...

Fandom Oscars are focused on fiction that has been authored within the last year.

I’ve put together a survey (click on the link below to access it).  In it you will find ten categories of fiction.  Make your nominations by putting the name of the fiction AND the author in the space provided.  Feel free to nominate as many as you’d like for each category.  You may go back and change your answers at any time.

Here are the rules:

  1. All fiction must be BSG related
  2. All fiction must include Kara Thrace and / or Lee Adama.
  3. Works in progress MAY BE INCLUDED.  (Just categorize it based on length).
  4. With the exception of Category 10 (lifetime achievement), all fiction MUST be from the last year.  (In other words, at least one chapter of it must have been posted in October 2009 or sooner... Long fics that extend back years still fit within this rule.)
  5. You can nominate as many writers and stories as you wish. (You are welcome to put in more than one nomination per category).
  6. Anonymous writing CAN be nominated, but please include a link to the work.
  7. The poll is anonymous so feel free to pimp your own work.  *winks*  No one will know!
  8. Fics can be included multiple categories as long as it fits the genre.
  9. The top five nominees in each category will make it through to the next round.  (In the case of ties for nominating votes, both fics will be included.)
  10. The only author whose fiction that MAY NOT be nominated is mine. :>)  I’m moderating after all!
  11. Nominations stay open until midnight MST, Monday, October 11th.
I will announce nominees and open voting for the winners on Tuesday.  You can vote for the winners in each category until midnight MST on Friday, October 15th  ... Saturday the red carpet is rolled out along with all the pretty Kara Lee manips.  Winners will be announced that afternoon and will have a chance to post their thanks / acceptance speeches as  they receive their (virtual) Oscars.

Click here to reach the nomination form:

VOTING CLOSED

GET NOMINATING!

Today’s second activity is entitled "Visiting the Oracle”

This game is based on a personality test developed by Dr. Tadahiko Nagao and Dr. Isamu Saito and published in their book Kokology.  In a fandom-focused (and completely non-scientific and unreliable manner), I’ve adapted the questions to fit BSG.  The purpose of the game is reveal parts of our own personalities.  Our responses – your choices based on the story – tell you something about who you are and what you believe in.

To play you should:

  1. Read the scenario.
  2. Write down the first thing that pops into your head.  Be Kara Thrace here; just go with your gut.
  3. The answers don’t need to be from canon – you might imagine, for instance, a good friend of yours.  Just answer whatever you want.
  4. Don’t try to predict your own answers and what they might reveal.  It works best if you are truthful.  Imagine Lee Adama is staring down at you on the stand and you HAVE TO tell the truth.
  5. Keep an open mind.  Does it always work?  Nah!  There are things that all of us have in our experiences that will skew results to mean something completely different than what it’s intended to.  You are entirely able to disagree!
  6. Read the questions, post your answers (either anonymously or not – that’s up to you), and make guesses on what other people’s responses reveal about them by responding to their posts.  The answer keys will be revealed at four p.m. MST.

Since I obviously don’t have enough room to pack in everything in one post, I’ve separately posted the stories.  (C’mon... you knew I would be wordy).  Links are below.

Don’t forget to come back and post your answers!  Have fun shippers!

*is excited* So, in the lifetime achievement category, are we just naming authors or specific works by them?

Wow! This is already an extravaganza of awesomeness, how amazing! I'm really looking forward to this whole week!

Okay, here are my answers to the personality test. They're very brief, but here we go.

Story One:
1) I wouldn't say anything to the ship.
2) Kara
3) relief
4) Lee

Story Two:
White

Story Three: (I drew stars in this configuration:)

Oh, sorry, my stars got lined up to one side when I posted the comment. If I get a chance later I'll paint them.

My husband decided to take the personality test too :) Here are his answers for the first two. Hopefully I'll get the pictures uploaded later:

Story One:
1) Let's just take things one day at a time."
2) Cylon Six in her white coat.
3) uncertainty
4) Admiral Adama

Story Two:
The pigeon stays black

WOW. What a great start to what I'm sure is going to be a great week!

It will take me a while to think of my nominations. Too bad we can't nominate you. I think it's really unfair, since you have been such a prolific and amazing new writer. If you really insist on this, I'll do my best. :D

As for the personality test. Here are my answers. (I'll need to go back with the drawing later. I really suck at it, though)
Question 1
1- It would never occur to me to say anything to the ship itself.
2- Kara
3- Hope
4- Adama

Question 2
The pigeon goes back to grey.

Question: Any rules regarding nominating WIPs? A lot of fic awards things that I've seen in the past have set aside specific categories for WIPs because they don't want them judged alongside completed fics. But a lot of awesome fics from this past year are unfinished!

Question #1
1-Today, I think I would kick the ship.
2-Lee
3-Wonderlust-y
4-Lee

Question #2
I'd like the pigeon to be golden, but it's probably black or white.

Question #3
The stars are in an arching row, not unlike Orion's Belt with the middle star slightly above the other two. The Middle star has the comet's tail, pointing down from the arch of stars so that the middle start appears to be leaving the line.

OK. Complete answers now. (I'm really curious as to where you are going with this, by the way.)
Question 1
1- Yeah, this isn’t exactly what I had planned, either. But we’ll show them we still got it, won’t we? Worst case scenario, at least we’ll go down with it a bang.
2- Kara
3- Hope
4- Adama

Question 2
The pigeon turns back to its original grey.

Question 3

Okay here I am:

Question #1:

1. I wouldn't say anything to it, but I probably would walk around at some point, feeling a little emotional and maybe run my hand down a bulkhead or something ;-)
2. Kara
3. Relief, but with a dose of confusion/restlessness. What am I supposed to do now? How do I live without constant chaos?
4. Kara

Question #2:

It stays black.

Question #3

You know I have zero talent when it comes to this stuff, but here you go.

ext_21969: (fat lee is confused by lack of pie)
From: [identity profile] coffeesuperhero.livejournal.com
1. Samuel Beckett once wrote, "No choice but up and stand." I feel like that's where we are. That's the choice we're making. I know it hurts. But that's how we know we're still alive. So get on your feet and let's go home. (It occurred to me after I jotted that down that, uh, you may have meant the actual physical ship? But you said the first thing that came to mind! Maybe I think the ship = the people, okay. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ABOUT ME? ;))

2. Kara Thrace

3. Exhaustion. Trepidation. Anxiety.

4. The Tenth Doctor (I don't even watch that show, but he is literally the first person that came to mind. IDK, IDK.)

STORY 1
1. I'd look at her, and I'd say thank you for saving the human race, encourage her to hold together a little longer and I'd probably pat her bulkhead. :D

2. Kara Thrace, of course. She always beats everyone to the punch.

3. Thank the Gods that we are home. I'm tired of running and tired of fighting and can't wait to live with the sunshine and the rain. Later, I'd probably miss the G. *sigh* The grass is always greener.

4. It is Kara Thrace asking me, Lee Adama, to come with her. I say yes. We go off together with a small group of people who are not yet ready to settle down.

STORY 2
And I'm reposting my answer to the Second Question so I can have my analysis all in one reply. :D:D:D

The pigeon is white.

1. "Thanks for trying."
2. Kara Thrace (she was flying it, obviously)
3. Tired. How do we get back to living? We all have PTSD like crazy.
4. Uh...Kara Thrace?

1. The pigeon stays black.

Here goes...
Story 1: Is it bad that my question to Galactica was wondering how we'd survived without more suicides? While the wondering would be kinda morbid, it also encompasses my appreciation for human resilience and our seeming instinct to fight harder when challenged rather than give up.

(I also kinda thought like Erin and wasn't sure if I was talking to the crew or to the ship. I decided on the ship...and I would've pondered the suicide rate. If I had chosen the people of Galactica, I'd obviously be more upbeat as far as celebrating our ability to perservere and become stronger through hardship.)

After reading the "answer key", I think that's fairly accurate for me. I am more of a pessimist in my own head while trying outwardly at least to rally for the cause of helping others move forward and allowing us all to grow from the challenges.

2. Kara. (She gets everywhere first and is completely made of awesome.)

In response to the answer key, it's accurate. Kara's helped me understand myself better and also allowed me to look for ways to resolve some of our mutual self-destructive choices in healthier ways.

3. Bittersweet. I’d probably cry from the catharsis of relief mixed with the overwhelming prospect of starting anew and the memories of the good time on Bstar G. Also, I'd be skeptical…how do we know it’s really the end? I mean New Cap was promising too. But…it would be awesome to be able to breathe the fresh air, lay out under the stars, and enjoy it with friends and fellow survivors for however long it lasts.

Yeah, again, answer key is reasonably accurate. I don't trust easily, especially in relationships. I'm very Kara and tentative about actually believing or trusting that peace/happiness will last although I do try to savor it in the moment.

4. Lee…but he’s not going on Galactica by himself. I am way too stubborn to let him do that. I’d grab him and march him over to Kara and let her deal with his crazy.

Answer key wasn't as accurate on this one. Maybe I was too bsg-centered about it. (I felt like he'd be going on a suicide mission into the sun and wasn't about to allow that. That's all Sammy's job.) The only resentment I can think of toward Lee is that I don't have one of my very own. :P

Story 2: the bird turned back to grey...answer key somewhat accurate I guess

Story 3: My stars were in a triangle pattern...and all equally sized. The first one I drew got the comet. If it represents my first job as a vet, well, yeah, I'm done with that shit. Overall though I'm relatively happy with my career...all the stars being the same size I guess could represent my feeling that the "grass isn't always greener" elsewhere...but I like that I was very certain that the comet went on the first star I drew. It seems promising as far as jobs to come within my current career.

Really cool DPP, Karin, thanks!

Ok, so I know I'm kinda late here (I'm trying to catch up on LJ, i swear), so here are my answers for the personality test:
STORY ONE
1. "Common, baby. Don't give up on me now."
2. Racetrack and Cally (wha?).
3. Tears. In a flood of relief and gratitude that brings me to my knees and thanking God endlessly. And then, a run through the grass, open armed, ending with tumbling on the grass and lying on my back watching the sky for hours.
4. Helo.

TWO
3. Golden

THREE

Now, to the answer key!
cheers.
