DPP: Happiness and Angst Meme
Oct. 2nd, 2010 12:27 amHappy Weekend, Shipper Nation!! Maybe it's just me, but this week has seemed rather stressful and angsty in many of our real lives +/- shipperland. I know several of us are feeling burnt out or just done with bsg in general, multiple shippers have expressed job stress, everyone's to-do lists seem to be overflowing, and the Marriott Massacre (as Tara so aptly dubbed it) this morning in relation to plans for rooming as a group at D*C 2011 was both frustrating and disappointing.
So where do we go from here? What do you do when you're "all outta angst" (which, btw, is an awesome song courtesy of NoFX)? As shippers, we tend to stick together and have relatively similar views on many topics, so today I'd like to propose that we each offer some of our favorite ways of making ourselves happier, more relaxed, and able to take a break from the angst. If you have specific K/L or shipper things to suggest, please do since this is still a Daily Pilots Post. However, feel free to make other suggestions as well since good mental health among shippers is essential for keeping K/L Shipper Nation the relatively friendly and supportive community we have come to know and love.
In order to provide some pilots! motivation, I offer the three solutions to Friday's puzzles, all of which represent times when Kara and Lee were expressing support for one another.

The puzzles are still posted, so feel free to go play if you'd like. (Jigsaw puzzles are relaxing.) ;) Prizes for those who guessed the pics from yesterday's post will be forthcoming.
(p.s.--Venting can also be good for the soul. As this is the "happiness and angst" post, you are welcome to share the angst as well. However, I'd like to try to keep our posts constructive and primarily aimed at shipper tips for relaxed, happy living.)

Date: 2010-10-02 05:06 am (UTC)Kara/Lee happiness:
--vids!! Music+pilots are always good.
--catching up on fic (currently I'm working on finishing Bee's Borrowed Time and scifishipper's Chasing the Dragon...and I have plenty more on my "to read" list)
--watching pilots scenes and fast forwarding the rest
--creating new art (fic, filk, graphics): I find that artistic release is always a stress reliever for me. Also, combine that with the opportunity to learn new things and expand my skill set, and I'm happy. Continual learning FTW!!
Jamie Bamber/Katee Sackhoff happiness:
--Jamie's most recent L+O UK was absolutely brilliant. It was an emotional episode, but I love seeing the actors who created our wonder twins continuing to grow and produce lovely work. Jamie has also done several recent interviews, during which you get to hear him speak gorgeous French when discussing wrapping on that film. His wardrobe choices were also obviously his and thus dorky but lovable.
--Katee has been absolutely adorable lately. If you're on twitter, you should follow her. Not only is the red hair growing on me and the upcoming CSI (and Big Bang Theory I think?) episodes are exciting. Furthermore, she's posted super cute pics with an adorable pit bull puppy that she appears to have adopted as her own. Her appearance in Team Unicorn's "geek and gamer girls" recently was also fun.
Combination K/L, JB, KS, and general bsg:
--I highly recommend that everyone do some LJ exploring. There are some great comms, old and new, out right now. Several icon comms, fic battles and lists of current work, a Kara comm, a Lee comm, and loads of fun to be had. I expect comm owners/moderators with more html skill and patience than mine may drop by with links, otherwise I will do so in the morning.
General relaxation, liz style:
--pamper yourself: take a bath with bath salts, petals, or other aromatherapy such as candles or reed diffusers (favorite relaxing scents include lavender and eucalyptus)
--explore nature: get off the computer, detach your cell phone from your body, and go for a hike, play in the rain, climb a tree, garden, or visit a local body of water (lake, river, ocean--whatever you've got)
--play with arts and crafts: paint, make a collage, color a picture, make a clay or playdoh sculpture
--indulge yourself without feeling financially guilty: get coffee, ice cream, or some other small snack as a reward for a week of hard work
--play with animals and/or children (sometimes this one works best if they are not your own since you can give them back when done)
--read for pleasure: again, get offline, get an actual book off the shelf, pour some tea, lemonade, water, frozen beverage, get cozy on the sofa and enjoy
--wander through shops with nothing you need to purchase: if you see something awesome, grab it, but there's no pressure to find items on a list
--go to a movie, concert, or museum
--get a gift as a surprise for someone else, giving is truly often more fun than receiving
--learn something new: anything from cooking a new dish to taking flying lessons, the options are endless
--remember to tell others that you love them and remember that you are loved
Thus endeth my post of attempted zen. I wish you all the loveliest of weekends!!
