Originally TAB was supposed to be like it's namesake, a funny happy episode. The original story was more about how the bar was created. My feeling is it changed when they decided to kill Kara in Maelstrom. To do that, they had to tie up the Quad of Doom first. Also it wouldn't have made sense to have K&L to get together for Kara to kill herself a few weeks later. I think that's how TAB winded up as it did.
