DPP: Mix Masala

Hello Shipper Nation!! My name is Reshma a.k.a rdave1 . A shout-out to jeebs83 for hosting such a fun-filled week! I know I have big shoes to fill and I hope you all like what I have planned for the week!!

To start the week off I thought we’d do a mix masala style, a little bit everything thrown together.

So, yesterday jeebs83 posted that she opened up tumblr account for pilot love. What I want to know is how many online accounts, communities, photobucket type accounts have to set up because of pilots??

Also, since the conception of DPP and before, we always get great recommendation from other shippers on fics of all kinds. What makes the fics so memorable? Is it because they are well written? Is it a certain scene or a particular dialogue that makes it memorable in your head for so long? Do you have favorite quotes from fanfiction?

And lastly, we have some great writers in our nation who can come up with some great things in matter of minutes. We’ve done various types of round-robins. I would like to combine a few of those styles and do one. sci_fi_shipper did six word ficlet during her DPP and jeebs83 did a gif round-robin last week. Let’s combine the two, someone post a pic and then the same person or someone else come up with a six word s to go with it. The challenge is that next six words has be a continuation of the previous six words, you can add pics to go with every entry if you like. I figured a pic for every entry and continuation may be hard but hey we’ve got tons of great artist and that’s what photoshop is for right?:)

**On a side note, this week is Military Appreciation Week! Please give thanks to any service personnel that you know whether they be military, police, firefighter and such.

I would say it's a combination of good writing and an interesting premise that makes a fic memorable.

Let's see: I have joined LJ, photobucket, youtube, imeem and I'm about to join tumblr; all because of pilots.:)

Favorite qoutes or scenes from a fic that I just love. The one that stands out right now is from As the Earth, She Revolves by cranberryjei, just because we were talking about it a day or so ago.

My favorite line is when Lee is talking about Kaia and says, "I made that" I just love that line, I can imagine the love in his eyes.

The scene with Kara and Lee in the showers and Lee being so tender with Kara and saying she looks beautiful even with the scars. It just brings me to tears.

I'm sure that if I think about all of my favorites, this comment may turn into an essay.:)

Sorry, you know I can get wordy and confusing.

Couple of things:
1) what did you join, online accounts and such since your introduction to BSG and pilots?
2)About our lovely fics. What makes them memorable? Favorite quotes or scenes or dialogues that just makes the story stick out in your head?
3)Round robin with a gif and six world ficlet. Use a gif with six words or less and the next person continues the story with a gif (if possible) and six words or less.

I hope that helps! I've been busy trying recruite a co-worker into fandom. I think it's working. She is watching the mini as we speak.:)

My accounts because of pilots? Well, LJ (my account and this comm, hehe!), photobucket and youtube... I don't know if I want to join tumblr because even though it seems so much fun I don't have time for more on-line distractions. So sad!

As for fic... What makes them memorable? It's a combination of things, all of them very subjective. The premise, the writing, the characterizations (I am very picky with this, actually. But again, it's something really subjective). Personally, I am a sucker for angst and bittersweet stories (aven though I enjoy happy fics too!). Oh, and good porn ;)

I now have an LJ account, Twitter, Photobucket, Megauploads and have finally downloaded iTunes (yes, I know!) so I can listen to awesome piloty playlists and have discovered many other sites to facilitate my obsession. I haven't gotten around to actually joining YouTube, but maybe I will some day when I fulfill my fantasy of making a vid.

I'll have to check out tumblr. Seems popular!

Well lets see, I started my livejournal because of my love for pilots and BSG. And that in turn has gotten me into photoshopping which I first started uploading to Photobucket (for those of you who still use PB, don't do it!!! Unless you have a premium account, your stuff will eventually be corrupted). I wouldn't say I started my personal Tumblr because of the Pilots, but I did start a Kara/Lee Tumblr for them. :)

As for fic, at this point I've read so many that it either has to be really well written or I won't read it more than once. Of course I have my sentimental favorites because they were some of the first fic I ever read for the fandom, but now for me it really does come down to the quality of the writing.

I know my LJ was created because of pilots and then it just kinda went from there. I kinda want tumblr because like you said it does sound fun but I don't need something else to keep track off. Tumblr may end up having the same fate as my facebook account, rarely logged into and checked. I live here on LJ.:)

I agree with you. I love my fics with some drama. The more the angst the better. But as you well know, if there is angst, there is banter and then their is make up sexing.:) We win on all counts.:)

I started with one then someone mentioned there is BSG/pilot stuff going on over so I had to get signed up. I needed other sites so I could upload stuff or download videos. I just recently got into grooveshark.com, it's better at work since I don't have to download anything.

I would to learn how to make a vid. I just figured out this morning how to post pics in comments. :)

Let's see....I already had my LJ, but I only started using it when I got into pilots. I have twitter now which I was soooooooo against originally. I did set up a Photobucket, but I don't like using it, so I'll be getting rid of it soon. I think that I'll eventually get a tumblr if only to follow certain people (like Jen and Eugie)

I have do have a photobucket account just for storage of pics for posting, nothing else. I know you didn't start a tumblr because of pilots but between you and Eugie, I need to check it out.

I remember when I first got into fandom, I would just about read anything but things have changed since then. Content does matter, the story has to be fluid and make sense and they have to stay close the personality of the characters. Of course, I make exceptions. I do have some favorites that I can read over and over again and still make me laugh and cry like As Earth... I just want to scoop up Kaia and hug her to death, she is adorable.:) Yes, I'm sucker for pilot!babies.

I find it very interesting how we've discovered differnt online forums, photo posting sights, etc. How we've all learned this new things and gained knowledge if nothing else then to follow BSG and pilots.

I'm always amazing at how people here have taght themselves to using photoshop programs to create icons and video makers so they can share their love with the rest of us.

I don't really use photobucket for anything but some pilot pics. I prefer shutterfly because I can upload more pics and create a website. Very easy.

The teaching ourselves how to do things bit it very interesting. Those AP icons that I did back in March were the first ones I'd ever done. Sure, I'd taken pics and uploaded them, but I'd never gone and edited something like that. I'm still trying to teach myself how to use my software.

I always found that interesting and it makes me very proud to know all of these talented gals. I don't know what drives all of us to learn this things, is it because we like to share our love, teach ourselves something new or something else all together?

Hmm...
1) Joined LJ because I had to keep abridging my provocative chapters to fit the "rated M" confines of fanfiction.net... though that was the first site I began to follow, and the main one I write for.
2) I think the best fics tend to have characters who really act like our well-known, and beloved characters. I hate when Kara has been rehabbed and Lee is sedate. I personally like her destructive tendancies and Lee's awful temper... I think that fanfic writers should be challenged to write with the existing personalities in mind, and STILL make it work.
3) I'm still not entirely sure what's going on with this post. (Only been on LJ for three days.)
But I'm a quick learner... Be patient! K :>)

Well, welcome to LJ.

Fanfiction was also the first place I started with fandom but it wasn't BSG. When I got into BSG, I needed more, weekly discussions on episodes and such.

I agree. The characterizations can't change too much in a fic. Yes, you need some room for interpretation but not so much that you don't recognize the characters at all.

Are you the author of Officers' Club on ff.net?

The only other part of this post was a six word ficlet with a pic. I think there is a thread above. Kind of like round-robin with a pic and continuing the fic with only six words or less. I hope that explains it!

Yes - that's me. I'll see if I can get back to the round-robin though I'm editing a couple chapters right now. (I am updating nightly... a bit fanatical, but that's me).

I've had my LJ since 2006, but it did become more active in 2008 when I discovered BSG and Pilots. The same happened with my Youtube and Photobucket accounts. I also have a Tumblr, which while is not all Pilots, they tend to appear in most of my posts. :)

What makes the fics so memorable? Is it because they are well written? Is it a certain scene or a particular dialogue that makes it memorable in your head for so long?

Well written fic is always a treat but it isn't necessarily part of my criteria for loving it. I'd rather read a fic filled with depth and meaning and a few mistakes rather than a flawlessly written but soulless story.

I don't think I was really active on forums and such before BSG. I normally lurked around and just read things, never participated. BUT then BSG & the pilots came into my life and it was my addiction and I needed my fix.:)

I use shutterfly. I like it becasue you can turn the pics into a website as well. I'll see if it works with inserting pics and such in comments easily.

WOW!! Very well put. I can understand that, you have to be able to connect with the characters even the story itself has some flaws in it.
