Huzzah! I was needing some happy making things today. What an excellent idea. :D

Hmmm, Let me think of a few of my own:

1. Epic comments that lead to AMAZING writing/character/pilot discussion. Super huge shout-outs to winegums and themonkeytwin who are the Jedi Masters of thoughtful epic commentary. I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed spin off discussions that arise from comment to a fic (and you guys would not believe how increibly helpful these discussions are, are how often they're influenced a story or characterization). **BOWS DOWN**

2. The Lee HOVER!HAND in (I think?) Six Degrees when Kara's walking on her crutches and Cottle is totally fangirling the hell out of pilots but trying to act all cool like he doesn't care. ;P

3. Fics that I find myself going back to lately and are making me smile:

Lots of things to be happy about lately, though many of my fandom-happy things are scattered about in a bunch of random interests :)

Nomad's Multifandom Gen Recs (http://nomads-gen-recs.livejournal.com/) make me happy. As does her HILARIOUS West Wing/Buffy crossover series, Donna the Vampire Slayer (http://archiveofourown.org/series/1656).

It's so rare to find good Discworld fanfic out there, and I recently found this well-written gem (http://archiveofourown.org/works/347262), featuring Vetinari and Vimes who are my favorite characters. Yay!

Otters Who Look Like Benedict Cumberbatch (http://redscharlach.tumblr.com/post/19565284869/otters-who-look-like-benedict-cumberbatch-a). My life is now complete.

I was revisiting some of

mercurial_wit's Kara/Lee stories - and other fics - recently, which are so wonderful.

People around this corner of fandom are so lovely -- it's always great to see everyone around :)

OMGGGG THERE IS BLACKADDER FIC ON HER RECS PAGE. This is exactly my cup of tea. And Discworld fic is so difficult to find, thank you for that one!

I think fahye and stars_like_dust and elzed were the writers of the first BSG fics I ever read, and it still blows me away how good they are. Like, so good I am amazed that I'm getting to read it for free because it's about pilots and not about original characters - clearly, excellent fic has always been the standard for this fandom.

(and omg OTTERS+BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH. The only Cumberbatchian thing that has ever made me squee more is the fansplosion that was Jamie+Benedict Cumberbatch)

re no. 2: I have SO MUCH LOVE for the HOVER!HAND, both in Six Degrees and here, but what made me smile especially is that someone caught this particular instance on tape.

I won't lie, my LOUK shipping preference (if some half-assed "awww, they'd be so cute together!" feelings while I watch could ever count as shipping) is Matt/Alesha, but I will admit it has its roots in my love for Martha Jones just as my love of Matt Devlin comes from Lee Adama's deathgrip on my heart, and I would never say no to Kara coming along to befuddle Matt Devlin completely *sigh* I would actually give them all my money just to see that happen.

For Discworld, Sam's fic are some of the best (http://sam-storyteller.dreamwidth.org/154868.html#discworld), and I also enjoy Gogol's stories (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1456790/Gogol). Her seven haiku "ode to the art of the disclaimer" also makes me happy :)

My favourite Discworld arcs are the Witches (including Tiffany), Susan and Death ones and I've come to really like Moist. I love that this world is so crazy you can basically jump in headfirst and just find something awesome anywhere.

Benedict Cumberbatch is so worthy of squee. I really enjoyed the first series of Sherlock because he and John won me over so completely, but then series 2 happened (especially Reichenbach) and I found myself actually caring about a tv show again. It hasn't consumed my entire brain and heart like BSG did (lightning can't strike twice, lol) but I really do love it.

Oh, I love Sherlock tremendously, but then I've been a fan of the Holmes stories since I was about 11 years old. I am the type of fan who gets all the obsessive in-jokes that Moffat and Gatiss build into the scripts, and I've watched a million other versions of the duo on screen (Jeremy Brett will always own a piece of my heart), and I read and write fanfic for both the BBC and the original era fandoms. Cumberbatch and Freeman are so terrific in the roles; I really couldn't be happier. And Reichenbach was terrific -- so glad they went out on a high note.

I read all the stories as a child and early teen (lifelong mystery nut here) and always enjoyed them, but I didn't get the really hackneyed 2009 movie. And then along came Cumberbatch/Freeman, and just rendered that completely redundant (the contrast between Series 2 of Sherlock and the Sherlock Holmes movie sequel could not be sharper). I've seen some of the older movies during my TNT-fan days, but can;t remember them too well now, I should revisit it sometimes.

I know lots of the fandom loves to call Moffat names, but I'm quite ok to have only surface involvement with it(i.e. squeeing about it on ontd and reading a fic once in a blue moon).

Ha! Yes, it's a cantankerous fandom, but then again most people in BSG are vocal about hating Ron Moore. *shrugs*

The way you are with the Sherlock fandom is the way I am with the Doctor Who fandom, I think. I love the show (and watched some of the old version, too, before the new one started up), but I don't read much fic or anything, just occasionally post a bit of love for the show and characters <3

lol that is true (re: Moffat/Moore). Though hatred of Moffat seems to be primarily centred around things he says in interviews rather than things he's done onscreen. I didn't even mind the infamous Irene Adler episode, though the end of that was practically crack (but then Sherlock has several very cracky movements).

(and Doctor Who fandom is another one I prefer to be even less involved with than Sherlock - to me it's a show that I never miss and whose characters I love but which I'm not as into as I was with Buffy or Firefly or BSG, and that's it)

And thank you for the offer to rec stuff, bb! I am quite well-set for now, but I will take you up on it if I think of anything and can't find good fic for it. You write good ones, I trust your taste (I still remember the Firefly one - your rendition of Simon and River as fantastic)

Have you read wisteria's story? I totally hear you on the Martha love (I <3 Martha so much too), but I really think you'll enjoy the story. It's so beautifully done. And there's a fabulous twist (I can't resist a good plot twist.)

lol, those were my favourite comment threads of all time. (pilots, squee and fashion advice? Nothing beats it).

I am currently reading wisteria's LOUK crossover, and enjoying it a great deal (the post-poof genre of canon-compliant fic does so much to heal my poor bruised heart, you have no idea).

(I must have been nuts to take the DPP this week, the magazine at which I work is going to print tomorrow and things have been CRAZY, and I'm still not done!)
