It's Leap Day!

Let's celebrate by talking pilots and leaps. Leaps of faith, leaps off cliffs, taking the leap, leaps of intuition, failing to look before they leap... What's your favourite way that pilots leap?

I think they're especially good at taking leaps of faith for one another when it comes to combat/flying/battle situations. Kara's retina-detatching save of Lee in the miniseries and her willingness to pull the trigger on the Olympic Carrier after he does jump to mind. Lee standing and finishing Kara's toast with a So Say We All in Scar too, although that's a bit of a quieter moment, and him agreeing to back her up when she goes to kill Cain is so huge.

I wish they had been quite as trusting in their personal lives, but I love Lee's leap in UBEX. He finally puts it out there, shouts it to the skies even. I wish it had worked out better. Likewise with Kara's decision in TABFYW to go to him and offer to leave Sam. Sigh.

And Lee's willingness in S4 to say it doesn't matter if she's a cylon to his dad and really all his support and the supportive things he says to Kara are such a leap of faith for non-religious, practical Leland. Sigh.

Jumping off Cliffs. Sounds like them.

Coming back to pilots, I was writing a fanfic story once in which I wanted to recreate that scene above with Lee and Kara doing the jumping. The story was set on Earth, and I googled cliff locations until I settled on having the action unfold on Corsica, because look:



But then as I wrote the story I realized in the end that I was resolving their ordeal in such a way that there was really no need for the cliff jump, after all, so I cut it :(

I did get in a cliff jump for Kara, though, in Life is But a Dream (http://rachelindeed.livejournal.com/11358.html).
