Kara/Lee fic recs: the mini

After watching the mini Monday night for the shipper re-watch, I got the urge to go back and reread (for the millionth time, yes—your point? ;) ) some of the first great Kara/Lee fics I devoured found in the BSG fandom, and especially those set before or during the mini. Just to connect again with that rush of excitement I felt upon discovering this series and its fic. Since I figure many of you might be eager to do the same, I put together a few recs set either pre-mini or during the mini itself. (Yes, I did include Academy fic because, well, we only really found out it was AU in the final months of the show and because so many of them are just so good that you want them to be canon, so.)

I had such fun putting these together that I'm thinking I'll try (try!) to put a similar list together each week, though obviously some eps spurred more fic than others (has anyone ever even written K/L set during "Water," for instance? Idek.). Would anyone besides me be interested in something as specific as this in terms of recs? Do let me know what you think!

Also, feel free to add more recs to this list in the comments. There are so many amazing stories out there (old and new to the fandom) I'd never be able to list them all here, so I'd love to hear what some of your favorite pre-mini and miniseries fics are.

Pre-mini fics own my soul. Seriously. I have so much love for these stories… They were the first kind of K/L stories I read when I discovered fandom-land and made me fall harder for Kara and Lee… Maybe because they portray younger -–and relatively angst-free—- versions of pilots with everything I love about them: the banter, the UST, the cuteness, the fun, the flying, the chemistry... Besides, I’m always been fascinated by all the different perspectives of the Zak + K/L attraction/guilt issue...

I ADORE all Daphnaea stuff and this story is definitely one of my favourites. It captures in a beautiful and believable way PILOTS: their attraction, Zak, the guilt, the UST, the banter, the cuteness, the self-destructiveness, the desire to work it out… and then the ending, just perfect.

This is so very very nice. Kara/Zak/Lee dynamics from Carolanne –-Caroline here-- Adama’s POV (I am a sucker for Kara and Lee stories from an external point of view). Caroline is not the alcoholic abusive mother of canon, but an intuitive observant and compassionate one. The scene with the pillow is… gah. So good.

I am a great fan of Claira’s fic, and this one is wonderful: lovely, and sweet, and cute, and hot... And Kara is the one who falls first for Lee! This story always reminds me of how much I love and adore pilots, and why.

She grins and squeezes his hand under the table, and Lee feels a truer and more complex story start to write itself in the warmth of her fingers, in the ambiguous edge to her smile, in the secrets yet to be told and those that they’ve already kept.

Fahye is such a brilliant writer. I love how this story portrays Kara and Lee’s starts of their friendship, their developing identities and abilities, and how they become that complex and ever-evolving story we all love.

I love this story very much --even though it is a very long fic and I don’t usually read stories that long. The story begins on the eve of Galactica’s decommisioning and then flashbacks to Lee and Kara’s meeting at the Academy. It is a really long story but fast paced, interesting, very well written and totally captivating. I just adore how the author weaves canon with imagination -adding nice twists and takes- and how everything comes full circle at the end.

Lovely, girl, thank you! I'm not sure I've read "Every Time My Heart Beats" (or at least not all of it, as it does sound familiar), but I adore the others for sure.

And I've read most of the fics recced here too, but now I'm rereading a bunch and... gah. So goooood...
