DPP: Intervention time

Monday's DPP was Celebrations. We have lots of prompts, and one lovely ficlet by kballgetlost. Please go leave some love in the form of reviews :)

Yesterday was pilots picspam day, and there are some glorious pilots moments. Stop by and revel in the pilot-y joy.

Today we're thinking about intervening in pilots lives. There are so many moments in BSG when a moment of intervention could have changed the course of pilots relationship together, and their lives separately. When would you have intervened? What would you have said and why? How do you think it might have changed things in the end?


I'd definitely change the outcome of this moment. It still hurts to look at :(

Kara and Lee would still have slept together on New Caprica, but this whole chain of events would not have followed because I'd have woken Lee up before she had a chance to run away, or stopped Kara as she was running, somehow (I imagine that would probably have involved physical violence ;)). By stopping her running and getting married, and the hurt that followed it would have been the start of a proper relationship between them.

Definitely a key intervention time, agreed! :) Those ill-conceived marriages just kill me. I wrote a version of that particular morning-after conversation once, called Sufficient to the Day (http://rachelindeed.livejournal.com/8537.html).

I desperately want to intervene in this moment - Lee needs help, and in helping Lee (or showing Kara helping Lee, I think it could lead to a more s4-like pilots relationship a season and a half earlier - one that is completely loving and accepting.

I kind of want to intervene with everyone ever in Season 3 (especially the back half) and shake them and yell at them and then whack them upside the head with an iron skillet--- and then pat their heads and feed them chicken soup and wrap them in a quit.

In "Sometimes a Great Notion," Kara goes Colonial One to tell Lee about finding her body on Earth and burning it; she doesn't end up telling him, since it's right after Dee's death:





I would've told them to offer each other comfort--maybe hold each other's hands, maybe a hug, or even just more words. I wish Kara had told him about finding her body so she didn't save her secret for Baltar and then have it exposed in front of the entire crew. I think it could've drawn K & L closer and they would have felt less alone.

I honestly feel like maybe she did tell him but we didn't get to see it. Lee was so angry at Baltar about "exposing Kara's secret" that it's like "hm, I guess he knew she had a secret." Season 4 is so rushed. Sigh.

Hmm, interesting, I hadn't thought of it like that. I feel like Lee would instinctively protect Kara's secrets, whether or not he knew what they were, and no matter what they were. Some of Kara's secrets were horrifying (like her childhood abuse) or intensely personal (their night together on New Caprica, or what she learned about Kat). So even if he didn't know her secrets, it feels like he'd be furious at Baltar for betraying her trust, since it was always so grudgingly given.

My answer to this is, well, LOTS OF THINGS, but I will stick to two:

1) TAB. Finally, finally Kara begins to consider the prospect of a divorce....and Lee - AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!

It's not as if pilots didn't have heaps of problems even after crossing that hurdle, and I can reconcile myself to the idea that of course Lee has trust issues after what Kara did, but I will never be happy about it. Even then, I can live with it but then that brings me to

2) THE POOF. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, RDM? I don't hate the actual final scene itself, and maybe he'll see her again on the other side, but after everything, you could have just left them there in the field and that would have been FINE. All the horrible things are behind them and they get fresh starts.....only not for Kara. Who looks like she is about to cry. ARRRRGH.

I definitely second a TAB intervention! Everything could have changed (in a good way) if that scene had turned out differently.

Oh, and the Demetrius. I've always wondered how that would have been different if Lee was with Kara instead of Sam.
