DPP: These Are A Few of My Favourite Things

Hello, pilotlovers, I hope y'all are having a lovely day! Today's DPP is simple: just tell us about your favourite piece of fanon, especially if it is something that you cannot get out of your head when you are actually looking at canon.

It can be anything: a piece of meta that makes things clearer/allows canon to make more sense, a fic that is totally your head!canon for a missing moment, or even (in my case) a word.

And here we have it, Shipper Nation: my favourite BSG fanon contribution of all time is the word EYEFRAK.























Because no one does it quite like pilots (another fanon invention whose simplicity and you-won't-get-it-unless-you-know-them suits our ship to a T), and no other pair of people have ever been able to replicate the intensity, the complete and utter disregard for personal space boundaries, not to mention the there-is-no-one-else-in-the-room-but-us quality of the held gaze between Lee Adama and Kara Thrace (even when one of the starers is Lee or Kara). May all the Lords of Kobol bless whoever first came up with it, and I would love to know about your own love of it, or of whatever this brilliant, thoughtful, squeeful fandom has come up with for pilots - put it all in the comments ! (and also feel free to bring up any eyefraks I omitted to include, I wanted to put in all the ones ever but could not).

I second the love of the eyefrak (and the tension/invasion of space that usually comes with it).

Something else I love in fanon/canon is banter. I always love to see some well-written banter in fics, and I'm happy to say that I see a lot of authors that are masters at writing it. I think that I'm drawn to it so much because we don't get to see the lighthearted, joking side of pilots very often, as so much of their story is dominated by angst, and it's a nice balance to that heartbreak and angst that we get in many (canon) K/L stories, though I can't say that I don't like the angst of their relationship as well.

Oh yes. Those poor kids did not get nearly enough of a chance to smile in canon, I love that fic redresses the balance and does it so well :)

Lee and Kara are certainly the masters of eye frakking. I think it stemmed from Katee and Jamie both having intense stares, and since alot of their ship is about wanting what they can't it was a way to show it.

In UB they took eye frakking to a new level but that episode had actual frakking. :)

How pilots met. I love love love exploring this in fanon and fic, and I will never pass up a good meet-cute. I think that's why pre-mini is such a favorite of mine, because I like to see all the imaginings of how they might have first gotten to know each other. : )

Oh yes. Poor pilots, so screwed by the fates in canon - if fanon gives them a chance to meet without her being Zak's girlfriend first, I am all for it!

My personal soft spot, if I'm not going AU, is for the time between their first meeting and Zak's funeral - so much missing goodness there, I can never get enough.

Absolutely. There are a lot of things I like about how it was revealed in canon, but the speculation in fanfic never got old, and I'm still more than fine with people rewriting the canon of it now.

Mmmmm, eyefrakking! Such good caps you picked! Love the last 4 especially--the trickle of blood on Kara's face, the anxious/ happy coupled dancing, EoJ hottness, and, of course, when they met for the first time. Here are a few more:











One of the things I really like about fanon is how it develops ideas and plotlines for unanswered questions. Canon doesn't really tell us how Kara and Karl know each other, for example, but I've really enjoyed the fic that writes them as friends from a young age. Also, with the relative lack of canon same-sex pairings, fic allows us to open up so many more possibilities. It's fun to see them as babypilots in the Academy, too.

And, of course, I love the smutty fic! :D

I really love the fics and fanon that explore the relationship between Kara, Lee, and Zak. The build up for that backstory is huge (for example, Lee has obviously seen Kara in jail/the brig at some point before, somewhere there is some major from wherever in their history, nobody develops that intense amount of tension without some long interesting things happening etc.) and yet Daybreak makes it seem like their relationship was so minimal. So the fics that fill all that in? Love them so so much.

Wholeheartedly with you on the eyefrakking. H'oh goodness, I do love the two of them and their intense looks and complete disregard for personal space.

(And, haha, you said "still open for fic!" and I was like "yes, then, I will most gladly give you the one I thought up at 2AM." :-D )

Oh, YES. That massive gap in canon, with so many tantalising possibilities (and still-innocent pilots before the worlds ended, with heaps of angst tossed in?). Yes, please. Forbidden love, loads of potential eyefrakking, and (slightly) happy pilots? How can anyone not love that?

Some of my favorite fanon things:

The pool on when Starbuck and Apollo will finally frak (or go public with their relationship :)).

The socks that are routinely part of the pot in Triad games.

The fact that Lee is really good at going down on Kara.

Lee and Kara's record-setting (and competing) prowess in the sims at the Academy.

I'm sure I'll think of some more! :D

Of course he's good it it *grins* My head!pilots are amazing in the sack, and amazingx1000 when they're in it together :) And a big YES! to the sim competitions too.

And the pool is TOTALLY canon, if the ship roused itself during nuked!Earth to lay bets on Gaeta and Hoshi hooking up, there is no way in the worlds they did not notice and lay bets on pilots too.

Another fanon-trained tendency I've noticed in myself is that I always tend to think of pilots by their given names, never by their callsigns, and I've also seen this in most fic.

Which is something I have noticed mainly on LJ, since most review sites/discussion forums, and even the actors and writers themselves frequently refer to Kara and Lee as Starbuck and Apollo or use the names interchangeably.
