First of all, THANK YOU to everyone who played truth or dare yesterday. It was a lot of fun, and if you missed all the bits of fic that got written you should go check them out.

As for today, here’s something I want to talk about: Where do you find humor in BSG? I try to explain the show to people and it always sounds like SO MUCH ANGST. And I do think of bits of it as being hilarious but I can never seem to come up with them. So today let’s talk about what’s funny! And if you feel like it, write us something funny! Banter or pranks or those oh-so-awkward moments. As you like :)

Quickly, off the top of my head:

*Lee's shower scene - it's sexy, but Kara's face behind makes me chuckle too.
*Kara's police glasses and her jibe to about skidded landings and needing the use of other hands ::grin::
*(Okay, this is poss just me) how little Kara looks in her Bastille Day sniper outfit. The helmet makes her look so tiny and I always smile.
*In general, her pissed off face - no idea why. Though I guess because it seems to me like someone needs to hand her a huge coffee.
*Lee and Kara's "Still not funny bit," over the grenade. I always appreciated that little bit of light relief.
*And Tigh - just his one eyebrow lift can reduce me to fits of hysterics, that and "It's in the frakkin' ship!" - I die every time.

I laughed so hard when I realized that song was "All Along the Watchtower" that I had to pause the DVD and regain composure before I could continue.

This exchange between Kara and Baltar makes me laugh each time I watch it :

"Doctor Gaius Baltar: Lieutenant Thrace! Good to see you!
Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace: Good to see you too!
Doctor Gaius Baltar: Really?
Lt. Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace: No!"

He was so hopeful that Kara would be interested in him and she crushed it beautifully!

LOL, and also that scene where he's err, with Head!Six and Starbuck walks in. Sure Baltar, exercising and loosening up *raises eyebrow.

That's one of the funniest scenes on the show. All awards to James Callis. Love how Kara doesn't even raise an eyebrow at the sight.

Yessss, I forgot this one (shame on me!). And every "compromising" scene between him and Head!Six with other people around is hilarious!

Haha yes!! That exchange always makes me LOL!

There's not much space for funny plots in BSG, but surely they could have written in more cracky dialogues and witty one-liners. People are often sarcastic and use humor as a way of coping with depressing situations. I enjoy Kara/Lee banter but it's not really something that would make you laugh out loud.

Racetrack cracks me up every time with her response to Kara going to look for Helo, "Good idea... maybe that Cylon whore taught him a few tricks!"

NO MORE MR NICE GAIUS IS LEGITIMATELY MY FAVOURITE LINE IN THE WHOLE SHOW.

See I find so many little gems of humor in BSG. But I have a pretty dark humor. It's dry and subtle and often nonverbal. So when shows do actual jokey jokes, I'm usually all 'meh, that was embarrassing'.

Off the top of my head, some moments that induce giggles are ...

-Chiefs 'wtf look' to pilots in 33.
-Kara making fun of Pegasus crew for keeping track of their kills.
-Kara telling Hot Dog that he looks like a Blueberry.
-Baltar's 'butterfingers' line to Gaeta during the trial.
-Kara & Lee's look to each other when Adama & Roslin are outmaking during the rebellion.
-Every time Gaius goes into his self preservation mode which usually includes a lot of fast talking and spazzing, which is funny to see.
-When Roslin gives her quiet penetrating but placating 'you are all crazy, but I will sit here quietly and listen anyways' look to people. It's like half annoyed/half amused. It's a very teacher type look.

OK that's all I can think of right now, though I know there's tons more.

There's no Kara, but the dinner when Ellen first showed up, with her groping him , was just hillarious. Most of that episode, really. (At least the parts I can remember, lol).

I was re-reading the BSG wiki, and it mentions that Apollo refers to Kat and Hot Dog as "tweedledum and tweedledee" in "Final Cut."

The scene where Kat and Hotdog chase after each other in the hallway and in the bunkroom made me laugh too and of course after that we have the infamous "towel scene"! *grins*

Yesssss, hahaha! I love those scenes!

All of seaosn 1, pretty much. And then things get a weeeeee bit more dark and twisty.

And OMG, the "not funny" line in reference to the grenade in the mutiny arc is pure comic gold.

Has anyone mentioned the look on Kara's face at Joe's Bar in The Woman King when Lee and Dee are being are goss and PDA-ish? Hands down the best thing about that ep.

Um.... is it wrong to say Black Market? As in the entire episode? B/c for me that's kind of one big LULZ. Can't ever watch it with a straight face (or without a drink).

I KNOW!!!

AND IT'S LIKE DUDE--- YOU'RE SLEEPING WITH A BLONDE CHICK TO GET OVER ANOTHER BLONDE CHICK AND THAT BLONDE CHICK IS....

SOME GIRL WE'VE NEVER MET BEFORE? AND NOW IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BABYMAMADRAMA?

**crickets**

Um yeah.

HI-larious, I say. ; P

Definitely of the shrill and hyterical variety to be sure. :o

OMG, zombie doll! Yikes. I forgot about that one. Oh Leland...

oh, yeah, that episode where you make it all about the complicated love life of Lee Adama - and Kara Thrace isn't in a single frame of it.

I know the writers might not have known what to do with them all the time, but it was never more apparent than right there.

That entire episode is crack. Like a giant crack!fic that somehow had access to the budget, the producers and Jamie Bamber to act it out.

Total crack. Not even Fat!Lee the Mighty Carrot Face could out-crack that shit. No way.

I actually thought fat!Lee was sad, and more than ever after UB - depression storylines just make me really unhappy.

But BM, seriously WHAT.

I'm not opposed to using depression as a storytelling tool, but it was so badly handled in that case. GAH. Talk about ham-fisted...

Pretty much any of the times when Baltar has to talk to Head!Six and a real person at the same time. Or when people see him talking to Head!Six. Or just anytime Baltar does or says anything. If he's not making me laugh it's because I've suddenly been hit with just how poignant something he's done is and I'm trying not to cry.

As for Kara and Lee moments? I don't know actually... I'm an angst addict. The entire Arrow of Apollo arc had me rolling the first time I watched it, though. "Oh hai, Apollo. So, I hear you've been stuck on me for nearly three years. I retrieved your penis from Caprica. What should I do with it now?" Degrees in Media Studies both ruin and enhance everything--I can't watch that without rubbing my hands together in glee going "the symbolism here is deliiiiciooooous."

When she's trying to push the arrow into the entrance and nothing is happening and she's all frustrated and annoyed. I know I LOL'd the first time I saw that. It was like my brain shut down because there was just TOOO much to say about that.

I've been watching recently with friends who are watching for the first time, here's what they seem to find hilarious:

Baltar and his imaginary world of sexual deviancy
The Chief's face
Drunk Tigh
Hungover Tigh
Grumpy Tigh
Swearing Tigh
(Seriously, I can't wait until they get to meet Tigh the Pirate)

But all of this is stuff that's quite difficult to explain to people, and I don't think I'd ever try and sell it as funny...

I think most of the reason why so many people think there's no humour in BSG was because the later seasons of the show got so dark and so bogged-down with the torturous angst - literally the last joke ever made in the series is in 4.13, with the grenade stunt.

But Season 1, with Head!Six messing Baltar around, Kara on full sass, Lee still capable of cracking a laugh once in a while.....oh, it was gold. *sigh* I miss that show.

Wait, in Daybreak when they're all hiding in the grass Adama teases Baltar that his first thought was if they were sexually compatible with the people on Earth 2. I think there's actual laughter at that.
