DPP: Lay Your Hands on Me
Oct. 26th, 2011 07:49 amFirst, a few orders of business.
Hope you'll all join me in wishing a very happy birthday to our darling founder of
no_takebacks,
cosetteferaud!
Also, there are still many empty weeks on the DPP schedule. It's possible they've run their course, I suppose, and we should just let them die a natural death, but personally, I love still knowing there is at least one (and usually ONLY one) post about pilots on my flist everyday. I just can't QUIT THEM! Hopefully y'all feel the same and will want to continue the tradition.
Now on to the fun! Since our Hug It Out Meme was such a success... let's try our hands (pun intended) at this one:

1. ᴛʜᴇ ᴀᴄᴄɪᴅᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ʙʀᴜsʜ
"Ack! Did you just touch me?" That first touch with another person - usually nothing more than an accidental brush - can stir up feelings and nervousness. Or maybe you both know each other so well that you brush against each other all the time without bother.
2. ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴍ ᴛᴏᴜᴄʜ
Sometimes life is hard and the only way you can let someone know that you're there for them is a simple supportive touch. Maybe you need to get someone to stop running away and pay attention to you, or maybe you're grabbing someone for conflict purposes. Whatever the reason, touching or grabbing someone's arm is the best idea.
3. ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɴᴅ ʜᴏʟᴅ
Is there anything more likely to cause butterflies than the first hand hold? I can't think of much. When your relationship goes on longer, hand holding is a familiar comfort. For friends, it's largely the same. Who hasn't grabbed a friend's hand to keep hold of them in a crowd?
4. ᴛʜᴇ ᴛɪᴄᴋʟᴇ
The brush of fingers over sensitive skin could be teasing and playful or seductive and tantalizing.
5. ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀᴄᴋ
"Hey, how ya doin'?" A hand on the back can be a wonderful way to greet a friend, or maybe just to pull a prank. Or perhaps it means something entirely different to you.
6. ᴛʜᴇ ɴᴇᴄᴋ ʀᴜʙ
There's something innately intimate about touching another person's neck, or allowing them to touch yours. An innocent massage can lead to much more. Plus It's such a sensitive area for many, so lips or fingers brushing against it are a wonderful gesture of the relationship.
Of course, you might just want to throttle them.
7. ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴇɢ
Whether intimate, comfortable, or something more, placing a hand on another person's leg is an iconic touch that is seen in so many places. It's a nice way to be affectionate in public, a hand under the table.
8. sᴍᴏᴏᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɪʀ
Touch someone’s hair, smooth an errant lock back from their face, wind a strand around your finger-- it could be playful or sweet.
9. ᴛʜᴇ ʙʀᴜɪsɪɴɢ ʜᴏʟᴅ
Intensity during a fight or in the heat of passion could lead to some interesting marks left behind...
10. ᴛʜᴇ ʜᴀɴᴅ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʜᴇᴇᴋ
Cradling someone’s face in your hand can be romantic or supportive...or perhaps you’re thinking of another cheek entirely? ;)
11. ᴛʜᴇ ᴀʀᴍ ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ sʜᴏᴜʟᴅᴇʀs
Maybe you’re just good buds or maybe it’s the start of a more intimate embrace! Bonus points if you work in a yawn fake-out move right before!
12. ᴛʜᴇ ɪɴᴛɪᴍᴀᴛᴇ ᴛᴏᴜᴄʜ
Tweaking a nipple, slapping an ass, fingers grasping and probing and sliding...Oh my! Touching during sexytimes FTW!
Take your pick, make up your own ;) You know the drill! Just get those pilots touching!

Date: 2011-10-26 01:30 pm (UTC)Kara leans into his palm for an indulgent moment and his hand slides to the side of her waist, his body inches away. All she has to do is turn and she'll be enveloped by his arms, the one place that she needs to be, the one place that terrifies her more than anything. She sniffs instead and turns the other way; she's okay standing here with him as long as he doesn't touch her, doesn't break the bubble of protection she seals herself inside.
Lee's eyes are somehow darker with grief, bright blue dampened to a deeper hue, his face filled with an understanding that pulls her like a magnet and her body leans towards him of its own accord. She stiffens and swipes away tears, looking behind him to where people stream in and out of this place of mourning, the blur of faces on the walls crowd her, yet keep her safe; it's too public, too exposed for anything more than an embrace.
Ever he is approaching or denying, and today his face is open to her, arm hovering in the space between them like a beacon showing her the way. She resists, sees the path their touch, even in comfort, will take. Blinking back tears, she steels herself to resist, stares at the buttons on his jacket, tries to think of other things.
"I'm here," he says, and her eyes flash to his. She knows it's true.
Like that, her illusion of safety dissolves, replaced by something more solid and more dangerous as she steps into his arms and buries her face into his neck. He is warm and safe and her tears disappear into the fabric of his jacket. Time and pain and all of the other things between them vanish, leaving just their hearts, separated by nothing, for one long moment.

Date: 2011-10-26 04:36 pm (UTC)Lee turns away, rubbing a hand over his face, and sags back down on the couch, his head bowing as he stares at the low coffee table. Kara blinks at the set of small metal jacks there, wondering where the hell they came from, but the thought fades quickly from her still-reeling brain, her attention fixing on Lee again when a strangled sob escapes him.
Her first instinct, as per usual, is to run.
The idea of her comforting him over the death of his wife, of all people, holds a sardonic irony, considering. She probably shouldn't even be here. Should leave him in peace with his memories.
But Kara's never done what she should when it comes to Lee Adama.
Besides, she can't leave him now, can't even tear her eyes away. He looks broken, small even, in his pin-striped suit, the confident leader who just a few hours ago brokered a truce to save humanity gone like someone frakking wiped him out with one of the dry-board's erasers.
Bereft and frozen, Kara hesitates. She doesn't know how to fix this even though she does want desperately to fix him. All her natural instincts--to flee, to deflect, to distract with a joke--seem wrong. For a second she almost smirks, as she imagines herself saying, "Hey, you think that's bad, guess who just found her godsdamned corpse on Earth?"
The thought sours immediately. It's not very funny as far as jokes go, and as for any competition with Dee, well...it's over now. But the thought sticks stubbornly in her mind and Kara wonders if this is how it was when she was...gone. Did he mourn her like this? Was his grief less or more?
A shudder runs through Lee, and his shoulders shift, and in the end, Kara just walks over to his side, and reaches out, her hand falling to his still-bowed head. Her fingers tremble slightly as she strokes his hair, soft strands brushing over her skin.
Time passes and she stands, her touch smoothing the unruly strands back from Lee's forehead, drifting down to where the ends curl softly, so much longer now, against the nape of his neck. Eventually he turns, pressing his face against her stomach, hands clutching at her waist. Kara wraps her other arm around his shoulders, hugging him to her, even as her fingers keep stroking his hair.
Time passes and she stands.

Wow, so you out of the blue just wrote the exact scene of my awful, terrible, no-good breakup this past Sunday? I mean EXACT! :O
You get right out of my brain woman! Nothing to see in there!
So yeah, Heart. Blender. Heart Smoothie.
and FYI, I like their way much better than my RL version. Oh pilots, keep on giving me hope! *sniff*

Instructor K. Thrace's office, Viper Weapons School
Two days until scheduled black ops mission
"The altitude's still not high enough. And we're not dropping fast enough to make a difference on Dradis. The signal's muddled, but it's not gone. Next time we should—-Ow! Kara? What the frak?"
Maybe it was lack of sleep, or the oxygen deprivation from the test flight earlier today, or maybe it was because of the three beers she'd had at dinner with Zak before he went back into hermit-mode to study for his last exam, but she was feeling damn giddy. Lee sat across from her, prattling on and on about how things weren't going well, and she decided he needed to lighten up. Suddenly, all of the rubber bands lying on her desk seemed destined to be launched like missiles at a certain mission partner.
She let another one fly.
"Dammit, Starbuck! Stop that."
"Or what? You'll bore me to death? Too late, Apollo. This is my last hope of staying conscious."
She launched missile number three. This one smacked him right in the forehead.
"Shit! Ow!"
He launched himself across the desk then, trying to steal her ammunition. They wrestled and struggled for control of the remaining rubber bands, all while Kara giggled and Lee let fly a string of expletives that would have made a Tauron sailor blush. Finally, his hands got a firm grip on her wrists, securing them.
They both froze.
Two sets of eyes suddenly looked up, laughter and mirth meeting pissed-off and flustered. It was the first time he'd touched her since he took her hand that night at the restaurant. His fingers flexed involuntarily, sending an electric current running up her arms. She bit her lower lip while his parted with a sharp indrawn breath. Her hands stilled.
"Enough," he choked out, his voice rough and deeper than usual.
Her heart fluttered ridiculously at his tone. She answered back in a breathless pitch. "It's no use, Apollo." Looking down at their hands, she gave him a lazy, sexy smile. "If you take away the rubber bands, I'll just pull out my stash of paper clips."
He looked down at where their hands were joined and back up again, staring so intently. And then the most marvelous thing happened. He began to laugh. Starting slow, no sound at first, then bubbling up out of that beautiful mouth. It had a lovely musical pitch, tenor mixed with a bit of baritone.
And his face—he was grinning from ear to ear, as if he'd caught a disease consisting entirely of giddiness with no hope of a cure. The smile was beautiful, and indeed, it completely transformed him. He looked years younger, almost his actual age for once. The burden was lifted, and he was simply … Lee. Not Mr. Distraction, not The Sun God, not Lieutenant Tight-Ass or any of the other hundred nicknames she'd given him over the past week. Finally, she was able to just see him. It was amazing. And almost too beautiful to look at.
The laughter, the look of pure delight on his face gave her no choice but to join in. She'd done that. She'd created that face. The lightheadedness of the oxygen deprivation was nothing compared to this. She laughed until her sides hurt, until she couldn't breathe anymore. He was in no better shape, both of them finally collapsing face first on the desk, hands still joined.
