Hello everyone, I hope y'all had a good weekend - and a very happy 4th of July to those of you for whom it's not over yet! After the amazing DPPs we had last week, it looks like it's my turn to steer the ship (sadly not the pilots ship itself, or we'd do something about that pigeon, among other things), and I thought I'd open it with one of my favourite pilots moments from The Oath, a.k.a. The Episode With The Mutiny, Where Kara Shoots People, Feels Better About Herself, And Kisses Lee. In the wake of that, the little gem below is often either underrated, or completely lost:

I really, really love the fact that there is a tiny, not-so-obvious pilots moment happening behind the MAJOR DadAdama/Roslin one, and the fact that pilots here look like disgruntled siblings - it's not shippy, but seeing just how in sync they are, how well they understand each other (as is often the case with pilots, not a word was spoken here) and how they look a leeetle bit grossed-out by the fact that their parents (de facto parents, anyway) are doing pretty much the same thing that they themselves were doing just hours before, it never fails to make me smile. In fact, pilots in sibling mode always make me feel like I want to ruffle their hair - I love the fact that they connect on so many different levels, and that we got to see that in this episode.
That's enough of my rambling - how about you guys? Do you have any favourite non-shippy (EDIT: taking a cue from
howlinchickhowl, I'm going to amend that to non-romantic, which I think is a better, slightly clearer description) minor moments between pilots? Bring on the comments, pics and gifs if you do, and if you think I'm crazy for saying any pilots moments are not shippy, say so!

Date: 2011-07-04 09:12 pm (UTC)Everything looked clear and he signaled to Kara to move forward.
"So," she cleared her throat. "About...back there."
Lee suppressed a groan. He knew exactly what she was referring to.
"Did you know? I mean, I think we all kinda knew but," Kara started.
"We're NOT talking about this right now," Lee hissed, hoping his tone would make her understand that he was not about to have a conversation about his father's love life while fighting for their lives.
"I think it's kinda sweet," Kara commented, catching her shrug out of the corner of his eye. "If it weren't..."
"Kinda gross?" Lee suppied.
Kara laughed quietly, repressed from her usual guffah that the conversation would warrant. "Yeah, I'm having trouble with the visuals," she admitted.
Lee chuckled a bit too, releasing a bit of the tension of the situation. "And you thought that torturing me with those visuals was the best idea?"
"I didn't want to be alone," she told him, moving to stand across the hall from him, back pressed up against the bulkhead and gun in her hand. She grinned widely at him and he made an exaggerated roll of his eyes.
"Thanks for that, Starbuck. How about we agree to never speak of this again?" Lee suggested.
"I'll add it to the list."

Lee: Well, he's your commander.
Kara: Yeah, whatever. It's still gross.
Lee: Totally. *sigh* Are they done yet?
Kara: Give it a minute.

Date: 2011-07-04 10:57 pm (UTC)Another lovely element of that scene is the Old Folks gettin' sum rather than the young'uns. Even that hound dog Baltar is moved by their lovin'.
Was it Tara and Bee who wrote the fic where K&L are stuck in the chute during the Mutiny, then can't hold off a moment longer to get it on?
And a filming note.... Jamie's hands are covered in some red goo (Marine brains?) prior to dry stowage kissing. He couldn't stroke Kara's face or hair bec said goo would have greatly increased filming time to reset after cleaning her up.

Date: 2011-07-04 10:01 pm (UTC)I think the thing that hits me deepest about pilots, that makes me a proper pilots shipper in a way I've never shipped anything before, is how they are never just one thing. They are never just lovers, or friends, or siblings, or rivals, they are everything, all the time (bonus point to anyone who can tell me what tv show that little phrase is an episode title for) That's what makes them pilots.
And pilots are amazing.
I do love this moment of childish grossed-out looking away, mainly because I think I remember hearing Katee say somewhere that it was very much her and Jamie's natural reaction to that moment, because they feel that way about Eddie and Mary, which just makes me think they are all just really cute and I DO want to ruffle their hair.
I THOUGHT OF ONE!!!
My favourite non-romantic pilots moment (I think I can safely say that all pilots moments are shippy, but some of them are not romantic) is the grenade stunt during the mutiny. It's just effortlessly brilliant, humour-wise, character-wise, Lee getting his own back on Kara for all the times she does stupid shit and doesn't admit that it was stupid, buddycops!pilots! So much good about that scene. So yeah, there you go :D

Date: 2011-07-04 10:11 pm (UTC)I think you just said what I was fumbling with words for - that's just about the most perfect description of pilots I've ever heard, and it's why I nailed my colours to the mast of this crazy, tangled, occasionally wildly-off-course and floundering ship. They might have different facets of their relationship in focus at different times, but that doesn't mean the other parts go away, ever. And we see that often enough.
The grenade stunt was brilliant, though. Such a great moment for pilots - in that moment they're teammates, bratty siblings and everything else all in one go - in just a few lines. Love it. (and lol at Katee and Jamie getting squicked at Eddie/Mary outmaking, hee!)

Date: 2011-07-04 10:48 pm (UTC)As for the scene in Oath, I totally agree that both Lee and Kara are sort of embarrassed and awkward about witnessing Adama and Roslin make out like that. HOwever, unfortunately, it was not exactly what Lee and Kara had done not long before because in Adama and Roslin's case it was about love in an established relationship, there was no hesitation, no misunderstanding, no conflict between them, whereas the kiss between Lee and Kara was about raw emotion and as usual it left them not quite knowing where they stood. Not that it mattered at the moment, because there were more pressing matter to attend to. And that was convinient because then didn't have to deal with it. And that is so sad. :(

Date: 2011-07-05 08:53 pm (UTC)And I really like your take on the scene in The Oath, it's sweet to see the oldies getting some but I like the interpretation that leaves the young 'uns awkward when they remember their own relationship.

Date: 2011-07-04 11:15 pm (UTC)1) Kara spraying Lee with the hose. I think it played as more fun than flirty, so more friends than love interests.
2) The Good Cop/Bad Cop routine they used to interrogate the terrorist. Kudos on Lee being the 'Bad' Cop.
