Date: 2011-05-01 02:33 pm (UTC)Getting back on topic, here a few songs that bring pilots to mind for me. Often it's not the song in it's entireity, just snippets of lyrics or the 'feel' of a certain part.
-All Flowers in Time (Bend Towards the Sun), Jeff Buckley. About a charismatic but emotionally withdrawn woman who doesn't believe she deserves to be loved.
-Amsterdam, Coldplay. Seems to fit Lee's state of mind rather well in the Resurrection Ship aftermath- about someone struggling with hopelessness and futility but who is brought down from the proverbial ledge by a loved one. Pity we didn't get that last bit in canon.
-Sometime Around Midnight, Airborne Toxic Event. Saw this in a vid made by a pilots fan ages ago and was hooked. The 'story' of the lyrics is mostly irrelevant- a guy seeing an ex at a bar and being jealous. For me the resonant bit is the ending where the singer admits he'll keeping returning to his ex even though he 'knows that she'll break [him] in two'.
-Hanging by a Moment, Lifehouse. Cliched I know, but it's an old favourite. Seems very appropriate for Lee after he declares himself in UB.
I'm sure there are others, but that's what comes to mind at the moment.

Date: 2011-05-01 05:50 am (UTC)One song that says something to me about Lee's love for Kara is "In My Head," by Anna Nalick. It's the song of someone who is in love but who is hemmed in by too many other questions and doubts in their mind, who simultaneously feels that this one person is all they need and that they are fooling themselves by daring to think so. It has a feel of wry wonder ("Fall awake to the sound of my heart to your beat, melancholy and cool, kinda bittersweet"), and it is aware of its own self-defeat ("I don't want to be fool-hearted. Baby, I'm outnumbered in my head"). And it ends both with "another lonely night" and with the belief that "you're all that I'll ever need, all that I need."
And for a song that reminds me of both of them, I do often imagine them dancing to Doris Day's lovely rendition of "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps." In fact, I often just mentally plop them in to 'Strictly Ballroom' for that little number :)

Date: 2011-05-01 08:20 pm (UTC)One of my absolute favourite artists is David Gray and many of his songs remind me of pilots but there are two that are completely pilots for me: Nemesis and The Other Side. Nemesis for their entire relationship and Dead in the Water is very much Maelstrom. His Dead in the Water is all of BSG to me.
The newest addition is James Blunts No Tears that fits perfectly for Lee after Daybreak, so sad but with hope that he found peace.
