8. When was the last time you watched an episode of BSG? What was it? Last night I watched Hand of God and saw a little something I hadn't seen before. It was one of those moments where Lee is looking at Kara while the focus is on others. It's right when Adama begins to talk about hitting the bully in a sensitive spot. Made me squee so hard!!!

1. How many times did pilots frak on NC? At least twice, but they were drunk and snuggly and sleeping was a yummy thing.
2. When should they have frakked? What would have been the perfect time to declare piloty lustfulness? For Lee? For Kara? Colonial Day when they were still on fairly even emotional footing (aside from the Zak stuff). Before Anders and the jealousy crap. Oh pilots!
3. What's Lee's favorite position? Why? I think he'd like them all because it's Kara, but I'm guessing he'd like her on top because he'd get an unfettered view. I think he's totally fascinated with her face and breasts, so it's WIN/WIN. RIGHT??
4. Is Kara's favorite position always on top? I think she enjoys that, but I also think she'd love to lie back and enjoy. :D
5. Would Kara get bored with regular fraks and push Lee to do something else? If so what would it be? Would Lee ever be kinky on his own? My guess is that Kara would really enjoy some orgasm denial (denying Lee) and Lee probably would be very happy with some sexy lingerie.

She definitely should have talked to him after the shooting. That makes me so sad to think about her skulking by afraid to face him. Poor woobie Kara. Go in there girl, he's not mad at you!
Oh, and also, I agree about the rough kink. I think he has a lot of anger in him and that she's obviously got some, too. They're both very physical people, so getting rough and tumble seems right.

Date: 2011-04-19 08:20 pm (UTC)Hmm, that's an interesting view on the relationship. I'd love to hear your rationale behind it b/c it's the exact opposite of how I see Lee's love for Kara.
Part of what I love about Lee is that I felt he loved Kara regardless of who or what she was...which he even says in S4/4.5. I think Lee was also smart enough to know that Kara would not, and did not, take kindly to those who tried to "fix" her or force her to fit the mold of their specific expectations. Yeah, Lee would be there for Kara as she worked on herself, but he didn't see her as a "fixer upper" project. He saw her as the brilliant pilot, creative thinker, devoted friend, and complex individual we all know and love.
In short, IMO, Lee loved Kara in spite of her faults, not because of them, and certainly not out of a desire to "fix" them.
Just my $.02.

2. What about her makes pilots work? she's Kara Thrace! (helpful answer, huh?)
3. What is she like (or would she be like) in a real committed relationship? Depends how much she trusts the person and how much she really loves and respects him/her as more than just an easy catch. Key to any successful committed relationship for Kara is that she'd have to be able to be herself...so she'd be a lot like she is already, just with less fear and more ability to trust it'll be okay.
4. If you could change one thing about her, what would it be? I wouldn't change her...she's beautiful just the way she is.
5. What did she need from Lee? Lee gave her all she needed. What she needed was from herself...the strength to trust him consistently.
6. Why did she love him? He's the only one that understands her...I mean, really gets her, in a way no one else does. Also he's an equal in a world where not many can stand toe-to-toe with Starbuck and survive...he knows when to push her and when to offer support.

1. Which of Lee's traits most gets in the way of pilots? Not sure. I have a theory that the Kara people see how Kara gets in the way of pilots and Lee people see how Lee gets in the way. I don't know...it's hard b/c I guess he could've tried talking more but that's a fine line b/c you can't push Kara. Maybe think less and just go with his gut??
2. What about him makes pilots work? Everything...he's the only one that can take care of Kara without getting pushed away.
3. What is he like (or would he be like) in a real committed relationship? He'd be there, which is the most important. He'd hold Kara accountable as he already does but he'd love her and support her too. He'd have to be patient with Kara's crazy...and realize that even when she drives him crazy, she appreciates his patience and steadfast devotion.
4. If you could change one thing about him, what would it be? As with Kara, I'm not into changing people. He's lovely just the way he is.
5. What did he need from Kara? Not sure? More trust...more consistency. But really he just needed her.
6. Why did he love her? Um, b/c they're soulmates. She's a challenge...but a lovable, brilliant challenge. She's Kara Thrace...everyone loves her, except sometimes she doesn't believe or share that self-love.

I dunno if I'm the most qualified to answer this one. Maybe read some fanfic and realize they both love each other and stop letting fear get in the way.

I don't even know if I believe in monogamy anymore. And fandom is crazy...there's no way to follow it all. But...I will always love Kara and Lee and all you friends and fellow shippers...and when I'm not as active, it's not because I don't love you guys or don't love K/L, it's just the rest of life invading my time.

5. When did you join LJ and why? About a year ago, I guess, and specifically to comment on this comm. You all pulled me in :) Before that I was just putting up a few things on fanfiction.net.
6. What do you do on LJ? Read fic, write, vid, etc. Read, write a bit, leave talky comments on character comms, watch vids and then feel guilty and then buy the songs so I can support the artists *and* watch the beautiful vids as many times as I want
7. What is your top fandom interest right now? On the reading/watching front, it's Sherlock BBC, but on the community/participating front it's still pilots by a mile. I keep my hand in a bunch of fandoms in the lurker sense. I am wide, I contain multitudes :)
8. When was the last time you watched an episode of BSG? What was it? Oh, I can't remember. Months ago. I watch scenes more often than episodes.
Alternate Universes
1. Name one moment in canon, that if changed, could have yielded a happy ending?: I'd have liked to have seen something serious grow between them when she came back from the dead in Season 4-4.5.
2. Put Kara/Lee in another compelling setting - what could have kept them apart? They can always mess it up if they choose. It's about them, not their circumstances.
3. Could Kara be your BFF? I love her and I adore watching and reading about her, but in real life she would make me nuts and I would bore her to tears.
4. Would Lee actually make a good partner FOR YOU? No. In real life I don't think I would get involved with a man who had a history of cheating on or running out on his previous partners, whether or not he said he loved me. Also, I can't imagine being married to someone in the military and dealing with the stresses of that life, but maybe Lee wouldn't stay in the military in real life.
5. What if Zak hadn't died? Would Kara have still married him given what happened on the table? I prefer to ignore the table and imagine the relationship with Zak that we saw in "Act of Contrition," which was clearly messed up and less than honest, but also a breathless, naive, youthful love story. Yes, she would have married him.

1. Which of Kara's traits most gets in the way of pilots? Her image of herself as destructive and her tendency to try to protect herself by choosing "easy" relationships where she has the power and can fall into hurtful habits and remind herself that she's a screw-up.
2. What about her makes pilots work? Her fire, her courage, her playfulness, her honesty, her deep heart and the way she loves Lee for who he really is
3. What is she like in a real committed relationship? Unique and amazing.
4. If you could change one thing about her, what would it be? I would ask her to try harder to change the things she doesn't like about herself, rather than believing she can't escape them.

He really did let other, maybe less important things get in the way. In many respects, I think was easier to do the expected thing than to do what was right for him. That way of thinking was second hand to him. That's why Kara was so great for him - she always challenged him in ways that others never did.

3. What is she like (or would she be like) in a real committed relationship? I think she'd be like she was with Zak - happy and bubbly and sweet and sometimes a little bit manic, but also warm and loving.
4. If you could change one thing about her, what would it be? I would send her to therapy so she could work out her issues with her mother and the damage she endured to her self-esteem thanks to her mom.
5. What did she need from Lee? His support and his steadiness (and I have to say that I think for the most part she got these when she really needed them - in "Scar" and "Maelstrom" to take two examples) as well as his willingness to challenge her and not back down from a confrontation.
6. Why did she love him? I don't feel like she had much choice, because they just DID love each other, even when it might have been "better" for them not to do so. But I think she loves him because in some way they sort of echo and complete each other.

1. Which of Lee's traits most gets in the way of pilots? I think Lee's reserve and reluctance to open up his heart for even the possibility of rejection are problematic for their relationship.
2. What about him makes pilots work? I think he has a really keen understanding of Kara to be honest. Sometimes he uses his understanding to hurt her but in general I feel like he just *gets* her in a way that no one else does.
3. What is he like (or would he be like) in a real committed relationship? Well, with Kara he never got a chance to be in that relationship (grrr!) I think he'd be really open and sweet and wholehearted about it (and smile a lot more) but he also wouldn't automatically do everything she wanted him to. I think they'd argue and then have wonderful make-up sex :P

5. What did he need from Kara? He needed her to tell him that she chose HIM first because she loved him, not as a substitute for a dead man or someone she thought was dead. And for her not to keep leaving him stranded in a field :P

1. How many times did pilots frak on NC? Well there was the time in the "house" that we know about, but I like to think it happened before, between the finding of NC and the groundbreaking :)
2. When should they have frakked? What would have been the perfect time to declare piloty lustfulness? For Lee? For Kara? In the shower during Final Cut (just before the cameras come into the bunk room). In the Phoenix after the events of Flight of the Phoenix. In Daybreak, instead of the *poof*.
3. What's Lee's favorite position? Why? Not sure why, but spooning springs to mind. I think, especially after the events of s3, he would like to spend time just holding her... and if that evolved into sex (or evolved from sex) all the better :)
4. Is Kara's favorite position always on top? I don't think so, because I think sometimes she would actually like to surrender, and be completely out of control.

I think the way she always seems to run away (gets scared off?) at the moment of happiness and complete commitment to the person she really wants. It was the thing I felt most as I watched the series for the first time.
2. What about her makes pilots work? Her loyalty to, and trust in the Adamas in general, and Lee in particular in this case. It is always Lee she goes back to, and her trust in him enables her to be emotionally vulnerable with him (see Scar and Maelstrom) in a way that I don't think I've noticed with anyone else.
3. What is she like (or would she be like) in a real committed relationship? I think she would probably be quite difficult in the beginning in a take-me-take-my-neuroses kind of way, but as she came to realise that he loved her unconditionally - and would continue to do so - relax and actually become very happy, and probably more laid back in her personal life than she usually was in the series.
4. If you could change one thing about her, what would it be? My initial response would be "nothing", because if we changed things she would no longer be Kara. However, if pushed, I would probably say I would change the way she reacted to their night together on NC. Instead of running off and marrying Sam first thing, I'd like her to stick around and give a relationship with Lee a real go. Or possibly, change her willingness to go into the Maelstrom at the end of that episode and instead have her trust her initial instincts to stay on Galactica & not be persuaded by Lee to go out again.
5. What did she need from Lee? I'm not sure what it is she needed that she didn't already have from him. He clearly loved her always and unconditionally. He only tended to push her away when she hurt him (KLG, NC) and even then he always came back.
6. Why did she love him? Because I think in Lee she sensed something of a kindred spirit. Someone who did not always belong in the role in which he'd found himself, who had had a difficult childhood and someone who would be loyal almost to a fault.

3. How about Kara? What did she do that pissed you off? Following her special destiny- boy, that sucked. Especially with the 'We're going the wrong way!' and pretty much all of Maelstrom.
4. When did you realize that pilots might have a shot? At a relationship? I actually was kind of expecting it from roughly Hand of God onwards. At happiness? I had a brief moment of hope in Six of One with the brig scene, but that faded pretty quick.
5. Have you made peace with the poof? How? The poof will always suck for me, because I thought that the whole supernatural aspect of Kara's plot trajectory sucked. There is only denial after that. Although, I did have a mighty fine time reading Song of the Open Road and it's remix The Reality and Immortality of Things.

The first time I watched Daybreak II, I bawled my eyes out for ages, partly for Roslyn and the Admiral, partly for the very raw deal that got handed to Lee, but not since then. I can believe light bondage or blindfolds perhaps, but doubt would have difficulty envisaging anything closer to the 'Madame Lash' end of the spectrum. And frankly, I don't think either of them could manage roleplays with a straight face. Sex in public places is probably good odds though, for those two.
Alternate Universes
1. Name one moment in canon, that if changed, could have yielded a happy ending? (Pretend RDM wanted it too - talk about Alternate Universes!): Taking a Break, when Kara offered to divorce Sam. Had Lee not had a sudden attack of cold feet, things could have been crazy different. Also, as above, I think they could have had quite a normal happy relationship had Lee not walked away from the dance during Colonial Day celecrations.
2. Scrap BSG and put Kara/Lee in another compelling setting - what could have kept them apart? Does it take war? Intrigue? Or is there always enough angst to keep them apart? I think the two of them are emotionally dysfunctional enough that there would always be a good source of dramatic tension. Having them fight on opposite sides of a conflict would be an interesting experiment- both have strong convictions and it would be interesting to see whether they find one another compelling enough to break down their loyalties. Imagine if Lee were captured and Kara were brought in to question him, a la Flash and Bone...?
3. Could Kara be your BFF or would she really make you nuts? She'd probably ditch me- I'm way too square for the likes of Kara. And she has a curious disregard for civil rights and due process that makes me quite uncomfortable at times.
4. Would Lee actually make a good partner FOR YOU? If not why? What would drive you crazy about him? (No bashing, please, but some gentle gripes would be fine.) Possibly. We're quite close in temperament, but I think sometimes it's better to be with someone who compliments your personality- not necessarily someone who is the same as you. You want someone who challenges you and helps you develop new strengths, not someone who is going to reinforce all your preconceptions and biases.
5. What if Zak hadn't died? Would Kara have still married him given what happened on the table? Had Zak not died, he and Kara's days would have been limited anyway- Lee and Kara would have stumbled along the way at some point and angst would errupt thereafter.
