Welcome back shippers!  Today we step into a slightly different realm of BSG: the crack-fabulous clothing craziness that represents everything we love to HATE about our favourite characters.  Our television show for the day?  What Not to Wear on BSG

As we all know, the entire premise of the show puts the characters into a situation where everyone in the Fleet would have to deal with a limited number of outfits to begin with – and many fantastic fics mention exactly this.  (The bartering for toilettries, the challenges of having no extra items and the preciousness of ordinary things.)  It would leave everyone living a life where you’d have to grift your way to the finer things in life... and that reminded me of a game that is popular with older teens (in my area) at Halloween.  They go door to door but instead of asking for candy, they call out:

BIGGER / BETTER!

So how does it work?

Well, at Halloween, they start with something tiny – like a paper clip – and by the end of the night, they see who has the biggest item.  (Last year I gave away a bike in exchange for a really nice wood chair that I now have in my office.)  I’m switching it up the rules for BSG Sweeps Week, but the premise is the same.

Here’s what you do...

Your challenge is to barter your way up.  The person at the end of the day with the BIGGEST THING wins (and really I have no idea how we’d measure that, but I’m good with that vagueness.  Maybe I’ll make[livejournal.com profile] nazkey Naz decide.  She seems like she’d ‘get’ my lack of rules.)

STEP 1:  Begin with an ordinary item that YOU have created... let’s say this rather unremarkable icon here.  (I am sadly FAIL at iconing, but I like this one.  If you want REALLY nice icons, then you should see amaliak’s skills.  Or maybe just trade for her.)

STEP 2:  Put this item onto the comment thread and wait for someone to ask for it.  To ‘take’ the item, they have to offer you something in return... it should probably be something slightly better, and you need to accept or decline.

STEP 3:  If your offer is accepted you can either
a) Keep it or
b) Trade it up again
(or if you LOVE it and don't want to let go then)
c) Keep their item and make your own similar one to trade up (100 word drabble for 100 word drabble)

NOTE:  Start a new comment each trade so other people SEE YOUR ITEMS

d) NEW!  (A last second rule change from Naz)  Reserve the right to see the person's bid and raise them.

What’s up for grabs?  Things like:

  • Icons
  • Manips
  • Drabbles (100 w.)
  • Short fic (<500 w.)
  •  Long fic (<1000 w.)
  • Vids
  • Mashups
  • Anything else, as long as YOU’VE CREATED IT

So get trading, shippers!  ‘Cause the worlds have ended, and until the IKEA ship arrives, all we have left is our wits.  Today’s challenge number for manips?  You guessed it!  150 comments.  Come on!  We’ve made it each day... we can do it today too!

And since I’m wanting some of the finer things in life... I’ll start the comment thread.

And last, but not least... enjoy today's vid!  :>D

(Here's a vimeo link if it disappears on you.)

This is simply lovely. I wish there were a better way to say that, but it's just... *gasp*
