Funny, I missed the mini series first time around, too – but the "Do I have to ... smack you in the mouth, Lieutenant?" line made me sit up quick-smart. :D
The English Patient really sucks me in, although I've only read it two or three times. I love Kip especially, but Almasy and Katherine are strangely compelling, too. Ondaatje's other stuff is still lyrical, but there's something about the desert that matches his prose beautifully.
