I've only been in the BSG fandom for one year and I have read a lot of fic, but I am not a voracious reader, so it takes me a while to get to everything. I believe I've read most of what there is to read on LJ, but I have only just begun to mine the depths of FF.net and A03. Today, when I checked Ff.net there were 1037 Kara/Lee fics. O_O That makes me happy and intimidated at the same time. WOW!

So, your task today, shippers, is to be my guide to Kara/Lee fic on FF and A03. What must I read there that I have not seen on LJ?

Please give a "genre" when you rec the fics, if you don't mind, e.g. AU, Academy, Porn, Post-poof, etc. Thank you and have a great day!

Almost everything I favorited in my short time perusing FF.net is already on LJ somewhere (and everything on AO3 is also on LJ somewhere I think).

But here's a few that might be exclusive to FF.net:

Between by DianeLD (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2567029/1/Between) -- pre-mini with Lee adjusting to Kara/Zak relationship (he's friends with Kara first) "Starbuck and Apollo-—it fills the spaces. Between Kara. And Lee."

[livejournal.com profile] kaynara's on LJ but not all her fic is. Running (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3645798/1/Running) (one of my fave hurt/comfort + bantery K/L fics ever) is not to be missed. S1 goodness. And The Return (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5120099/1/The_Return), which picks up with start of S4/Kara's return to fleet, is also good.

And finally [livejournal.com profile] shuchong, who sadly deleted her LJ journal, is still on FF.net under the name "settler". All her fic (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1254673/) is worth reading.

Only a year! My sweetie, you're amazing. I'll be randomly posting suggestions all day as I have time to go through my bookmarks which I listed alphabetically starting in 2008.

Here's one I really like on ff.net. "Event Horizon: Defiance" by Setivalen. It's long and unfinished, but features the entire cast and a shifting time frame between now and Kara & Lee's past when they were together at the Academy. In this AU, Bill's down on New Caprica visiting Laura and Lee has to save everyone. Worth reading even if it is unfinished imho, esp if you like Alpha!Lee.

Okay, I need to mourn the lost postings of Latte's story. I can't tell you many bookmarks I've pulled up that aren't there anymore. I have to say that you really missed out not being able to read her works. She's a marvelous writer and can do it all: intricate plotting, revealing characterizations, deep connections, hawtness, prose that reads like poetry.

Have you read Jane Aus10's two opuses (opi?)... Siren's Kiss and Torches of Other Worlds. She's an amazing writer, plus disciplined and prolific. Some people do not care for the shift in the character's personalities. Kara's less damaged and is clear that Lee is the one for her. This doesn't make their relationship easy by any means, but it does make it focused. Plus SK starts when they're very young. Torches focuses a lot on human/cylon issues, but I love it too. Here's Jane's coverpage.

http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1484229/JaneAus10

We've had a lot of discussion about what it takes for an author to post long chapters regularly and live with a story for several years. It's definitely a calling as well as a blessing to the shipper community imho.

Someone else I adore is Uberscribbler. Here's his author page.

http://www.fanfiction.net/u/863640/Uberscribbler

He's a guy, in case you don't know that (some don't). I love his work. "Other Lives" is extremely intense and has scenes of violence/ hurt. "Portraits of Marriage" is so hawt you need an icy margarite or a fire extinguisher near by.

Here's one I don't see pimped very often. Very AU. Kara and Lee dream of each other from across the galaxy, eventually finding each other and their civilization.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I like the idea.

Have you read "Love is in the Air" ??? That fic is a race between hawt v. funny, and it's wonderful photo finish with Hawtness winning. It's over at AngelFire.

And of course, you probably know of (and are tired of) my adoration for "In the End" over at ff.net. I have to pimp it so much is my love.

So now I've been a total post-whore. Happy reading!

I made a whole post about this once...Let's see...Pearls of the Pit (http://shah-of-blah.livejournal.com/34251.html). You can also see the fics I've favorited here (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/813724/Serrafina). Some of those are also on LJ, but some are not:

-everything by Cranberry Jei (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/397343/Cranberry_Jei) (long, dramatic, lots of fun)
-Cold Blood (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3427661/1/Cold_Blood) (ensemble, could-have-been-an-episode kind of thing)
-Five Seasons in Caprica City (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2539625/1/Five_Seasons_in_Caprica_City): Kara genfic.
-Hush (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4018406/1/Hush): really beautiful one-shot about Kara and Lee.
-Making Babies (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5255747/1/Making_Babies): very nice moment between Kara and Lee. Don't let the name fool you--this is more like the antithesis of babyfic.
-Rivals (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3531406/1/Rivals): lint138 is on LJ, but as far as I know, this fic isn't. It's one of my favorites of his, and just a really fun and tender AU in which Kara and Lee meet through their high school pyramid teams.
-Sins of the Fodder (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2786900/1/Sins_Of_The_Fodder): this one is really, really a must-read.
-The Edge of Night (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1846708/1/The_Edge_of_Night): kinda gen but kinda not, it's an ensemble fic that could-have-been-an-episode in early season 1.
-The Otherside (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6336071/1/The_Otherside): I just discovered this fic (and I do wish there was a space between "other" and "side," but oh well) and I spent an entire day reading it. And then almost an entire night. Very exciting ride.

Anyway, I could go on but all my other favorites are already listed in the "Pearls of the Pit" post.

There are so many great stories on FF.net. One of my all time favorites, and I highly recommend it if you haven't had the pleasure, is "Follow me" by Mistress Spin aka mlsky on LJ. It's an oldie but most definitely a goodie. :)

It's set back in season one, so before tons of angst gets puts on top of them. Even though it was written so long ago, it captures the pilots really well.

There are many others great ones Possibility:Bright Shiny Future. Another one to go with yesterday's theme is Possibility:Marked and the fic follow up Hope. All by hackaddict. Hackaddict has some other good fics as well. :)

I don't have my own laptop with me so I'll add some of my favorites on saturday and i have to admit that even if i read a lot from what is on ff.net i'm not sure what is and what is not here also so i appologize in advance if i mention something that you already read.

I have to agree with what was said about uberscribbler and JaneAus10. and State of Delusion is just heart-breaking in the beginning. the end depends on every persons pow and preferences but you'll probably love the beginning.

somebody said something about the Posibility series... they are all great, some are short and some are long fics but good ones. different genres also.

from what i remembered without the bookmarks and wasn't already mentioned and everything i can recommend

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4610743/1/Dark_Days_of_Apollo, again very AU and not for everybody but i liked it even if i;m not a big fan of the whole Apollo/Artemis thing.

I second lots of the recs above, particularly JaneAus10's Siren's Kiss and Torches of Other Worlds (they are really long, very AU, but I really enjoy them). I'd add three more that I don't think have been mentioned yet.
Breaking Point (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2401236/1/Breaking_Point), by RoadrunnerDM, which is very Lee-centred (there are some things I didn't like very much, but overall a great story, with lots of drama and angst)
Works in progress (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4534545/1/Works_in_Progress) by pygmymuse, very AU, pre-mini
Everything that was will be again (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4731291/1/Everything_that_was_will_be_again), by Igore, extremely AU, very dark, very intriguing and gripping, with an almost unrecongnizable, very hardened Lee, unfortunately unfinished and hasn't been updated in a while.

Like Shah, I also recommend giving The Otherside a go, RireneC's writing skill definitely improved the further into the story and she has some really original (to me at least) ideas floating within the fic and nice characterization.
If I understood her right, Hidden Within is her sequel to The Otherside. She's also posting The Distance in Between as a kind of filler/separate story set within the same time frame as The Otherside.

I'm not sure if TamSibling is on LJ. She has some excellent fics at FF, I'm especially fond of Leftovers. It's AU after they visit the Temple of Athena on Kobol and deals with Kara's Caprica wounds.

Same with msk1701. I like several fics including A New Start. It's a long AU from around the beginning of Lay Down Your Burdens and Razor never happened.

I agree about RireneC. I read the first chapter of Hidden Within and I am very excited!

[livejournal.com profile] tamsibling is on LJ, by the way. msk1701 isn't though, as far as I know. I like "A New Start" a lot too.

Speaking of digging for gold. I found a DVD from 2 1/2 years ago now, that had a bunch of fan fiction I saved to it. I thought I had lost those forever, but I got em back.

For some reason I didn 't put author's names on lot of them. Lately (before I found this DVD) I've slowly been trying to collect old fan fiction and store them for posterity. It's just for me, so years from now I can go relive pilots again hehe. I figure as time goes by, many fics will be lost. Some of the old fan fic sites have disappeared like the *sniff* Fallout Shelter. Who knows how long before a site like FF.net would cull their "old" stories. Hell who knows how long the site will be there for sure. No guarantees.

That's cool! If you find any that have been lost, would you mind letting people know? I can think of a few deleted fics that I would love to read again...
