[identity profile] scifishipper.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] no_takebacks
Hi Kara/Lee shippers! I'm [livejournal.com profile] sci_fi_shipper, aka Heather, and I will be driving the DPP train this week. For my first post, I'm going all the way to the very end.

Imagine the poof never happened. Nor did something else...

Kara leaned against a tree watching the two men walk together, father and son, arms linked, strolling alongside the sparkling river. The planet was beautiful, everything that Laura had said it would be, all that Kara had hoped it could be. As she watched them come towards her, she felt at peace, calm in the knowledge that she had fulfilled her destiny; she’d jumped to the right coordinates, she’d led them to their end.

Something had shifted inside her that day when the blue and white planet had come into view. No longer was she the disconnected harbinger of death, experiencing life on the fringes, watching, participating, but never fully living. Now, she felt like her old self, alive, vibrant, ready to leave her destiny behind and to begin her own journey on her own terms.

Lee smiled as he walked towards her, face bright and young and fresh with hope. With his eyes on Kara, he squeezed his father’s arm and the two men parted ways. Adama smiled sadly at Kara before he turned to leave and she knew why: Laura did not have long. She’d played her part in their journey – the dying leader whose final step was about to be taken.

As they watched the older man walk away, Kara reached out for Lee's hand. They began to walk along the river, strolling quietly for a while before Kara spoke, “So, what were you and the old man talking about?”

Lee glanced over at her and smiled. “I was telling dad about the plans to start fresh on this new planet. A decision to leave it all behind - the ships, the technology, the weapons. To try not to make the same mistakes we did before. We’re going to take a vote – put it to the people. Let them decide what kind of future to have.

Kara stopped walking. Their arms stretched out, fingers still linked until Lee faced her with a curious expression.

“You’re doing what?” she asked, incredulous.

“We’re thinking of sending the technology into the sun. We don’t need it. We can start over, leave it all behind. Start with a clean slate.” He smiled at her, proud of his idea.

“Lee,” she said, closing the gap between them to plant a brief kiss on his lips. “That is the stupidest idea I have ever heard.”

Now what? What does their life look like? How do you imagine they would contribute to the new society? What would their lives look like on a daily basis? Would they be leaders or have a supporting role? What special expertise would they offer to the new society? Would they go off into the mountains or help build their new life with the others.

And, of course, what would they do together now that they have the time, the freedom, and the safety, with no restrictions, to simply be together. Kara and Lee on Earth. What say you?

ETA: Now with "Foreman Kara" and Lee building their very own dream home. Hee. ;)

ETA: NOW WITH COMIC BOOK KARA AND LEE! WOOO HOOO!!!!!!!!

She heard the sound of the engines approaching as Helo did a broad sweep of the area with the raptor. She raised her face up to the rushing wind that had picked up and waved up at him.

"Hiya, 'Buck," he said in her ear. "Looks like you are way off the reservation."

She flipped him off before rolling up her map. "Are you here to give me a ride or what?" she asked through the comm.

"Nearly on bingo fuel," he chuckled. "But I think you can make it from here. Apollo, Helo. Got a 20 on Starbuck. She's half a click south of base camp position."

"Copy that, Helo. Starbuck, come on home."

"Yes, Sir," she snapped off a salute he couldn't see and jumped from her rock, heading in the direction that she now knew to be right.

In no time at all, she saw the clearing through the trees, and the base camp just beyond. Lee was coming towards her, catching up with her just within the tree line. He swept her into his arms and kissed her firmly.

"Nice to see you too, Major," she said with a smile before kissing him back.

"What took you so long?"

"I guess you lost me,"she said with a playful grin as he kissed her neck, his hands wandering possessively. "Hey, shouldn't we go back to camp or something?"

"No," he stopped and looked at her seriously. His eyes took on a momentary panic. "And I can't lose you. Do you understand? Next time, I'm coming with you."

She didn't like it when he looked at her like that...like his entire world revolved around her and he would be lost without her. Sam would look at her like that. But not Lee. He was stronger than that. Or at least, he used to be.

She hugged him then, lightly kissing his temple. "I'm here." And trying to lighten the mood, she waggled her eyebrows suggestively at him. "Now you can have your way with me."

"Listen, whatever you guys end up doing, could you please do it off comms?" Helo's voice piped up in their ears.

They laughed at that. "Common, Helo. You know you're a sneaky little perv that would love to listen in," Kara quipped.

"Please, 'Buck. I have something better at home. Don't need to listen to you two," Helo retorted, sounding slightly insulted.

"Who knows, maybe Sharon would appreciate you picking up some pointers," Kara was saying even as Lee shook his head.

"Thanks, Helo. Apollo and Starbuck out."

They turned off their comms then, and Lee took Kara's hand, walking side by side with her to base camp.

This was grounding to her, having someone that depended so much on her continued existence. Maybe it was something they'd have to work at still. Lee was stronger than this. but after everything he'd lost, she could give him this even for a little while.

Kara squeezed his hand tighter and walked on.

I love that you picked up on Kara's hesitance to be needed. And so pleased that you showed them doing something useful and practical for the development of the settlement, and not in some romanticised hunter-gatherer fantasyland!

Well, I figured if they kept the technology, then they would put it to good use. Lee's a smart guy, and there's plenty of other people around that are smart too. They would want to know the lay of the land, would want to, you know, not get lost all the time. Haha.

And yes, this is a happier place, but Kara is Kara. But the problem is that Lee might not be Lee anymore. And that might be something that Kara will have to deal with.

I'm glad you liked it.
cheers.

How grown up and sweet of Kara. *hugs her*

I adore this. It totally made me smile... and the observation that Lee used to be stronger than this actually gave me a lump in my throat. Oh gods. So good. *hugs*

I feel like Lee would be broken. I mean, he's lost everything, when you think about it. I'm not entirely sure that he wouldn't allow himself to fall apart, just a little, now that there's not the threat of death hanging over their heads at every minute.

I'm glad you liked it. It took me all day to write, since I wrote it @ work in between meetings and emails.
cheers.

It's so achingly beautiful. Loved it! And don't feel guilty about sneaking it into work. My own fic chapters posted four hours late for the SAME reason. Hee hee!

Great job Lex! You've got their voices down and I love all the tenderness between our pilots.

I think they've been through enough that if Kara stayed, they would have a better chance at being happy. Because now she knows she doesn't have to be self-destructive. She might be able to help him with his nervous breakdown (because let's face it, Lee totally had one. Can we say "abandonment issues"?).

Oh my god that was so beautiful... I love how all the loss brought them together, and I like her discomfort with Lee letting himself be so dependent, but appreciating it and him and what he's gone through... they've grown so much *wipes tears away* But they have so much more they can grow on

Aw this makes me a little sad. That Kara is still so afraid of letting anyone need her after everything. That she's only willing to give him this for a little while. :(
