Happy Thursday, everyone!

I don't know about you, but when I have two heroic characters who are in love with each other, I often feel the temptation to put one of them in danger just for the pleasure of seeing the other one come to the rescue.  Kara's 'beyond insane' maneuver in the miniseries and her 'I could do this all day' bling during the mutiny are classic examples.

Today, I'd love for you to share an idea about how Lee might rescue Kara, or Kara might rescue Lee (or both could work together to rescue themselves, buddy-cops style).  Your idea can be a comment, or a drabble or ficlet if you feel inspired.  It can be canon, AU, crossover, anything!  You can put them in physical jeopardy, emotional jeopardy, or anything inbetween.  Let's watch Kara and Lee save each other the best way they know how, because that's clearly what they're meant to do :)

"Damsel in Distress, currently on fire." //  "Would you like to be rescued?"  //  "Skip polite, go right to action."

I love relationships between equals, where the partners save each other physically and psychically too. I wish canon had given us moments of both for Kara and Lee towards each other. Instead I think it let Kara save Lee physically often and let Lee try to save Kara psychically: the end of Scar finishing her toast when she can't, kissing her and assuring her he believes her in Six of One, offering unconditional love in Islanded, even getting her out of sickbay in Six Degrees or Litmus). I wish they'd let Kara be there emotionally for Lee a bit more, and let Lee be there for Kara physically a bit more.

And the more I think about it, the more I like the discarded original idea for Maelstrom where pilots get trapped together, come up with a plan where only one can survive so Kara decides she'll sacrifice herself for Lee (of course), they talk about their relationship finally, but at the last minute he comes up with a way to save them both. I would've liked to have seen that play out instead of the "shocking death" we got. <3

It's like you can read everything I'm writing right now. I have buddy cop pilots all over the place. :D Of course you're going to have to wait for publication, but it does say a lot for the importance of this aspect of Kara and Lee's relationship.

I will say though, I really wish that a very begrudging Lee had been forced to save Kara from Leoben during the exodus from New Caprica. For some reason, I just love the idea of Lee feeling forced to save Kara during that period when he was still for raw and hurt by her.

I also love it when a couple going through a hard time are suddenly facing life or death and putting everything on the line for each other. It's a strange but beguiling dynamic to see in a long relationship with a lot of baggage, that two people can be in a place of not liking each other but still know in their hearts that *beneath that* they love each other more than life.

I would love for someone to tackle this dynamic in a TV series one day. In the early episodes of S1 it's where I thought or maybe just hoped Kara and Lee would go. I feel sometimes like the on again, off again angst fest that TV typically uses needs a change up and something like this, an imperfect couple, would be fascinating.

BSG failed in a lot of ways, but it never really got melodramatic that I can recall? Well not about love relationships (Adama and his white paint, yeah...). I'm pretty sure it would have been amazing.

Ooh that would be fun. Them both trying to out-sacrifice the other. Maybe a little out of character for Lee sadly, but awesome in ficland!

Pilots in jeopardy (and hurt)is a secret weakness of mine. To have them save each other ... I have no words. To have them do that while angry at each other, doing something incredibly risky just because they can't leave the other behind - well that just makes my day. Maybe it's a bit cliched but who cares? NOt me, that's for sure.

I totally agree with Tara about the show needing more of Lee physically saving Kara and Kara psychologically/emotionally beign there for Lee. It shouldn't be so difficult. Kara and her beyond insane moves should put her in difficulty pretty often. And Lee's many bottled up issues and his depression tendencies could easily provide opportunities for some emotional rescue. Not that Kara didn't need that as well.

Does anyone have any good recs that deal with this topic?

I try not to think about this idea too much, because if I do, the fact that they didn't use it will cause TEARS and then RAAAAAGE. (and as rachel says, a lot depends on the execution - too talky and then they just don't sound like pilots anymore)

This is old, but since we're talking about rescues:

I doubt there would have been too much talking, it doesn't seem like there ever was in any of their scenes. Even UBEX only has a little bit of talking and that's their huge moment.

I've written a ton of pilots saving each other. LOL. It's a thing for me. Here's a couple of my favorite ones:

Blown Away (http://taragel.livejournal.com/48706.html) (Smutstrav Chapter 5 ) - this is my favorite and most literal instance of Lee physically saving Kara's life and Kara's reaction to it...kind of says it all I think)

A BSG/Bionic Woman crossover (http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/853934.html?thread=16513454#t16513454), where Kara and Lee save themselves from the evil Sarah Corvus

Being Alive (http://taragel.livejournal.com/7690.html#cutid2) & Nine Lives (http://taragel.livejournal.com/164307.html#cutid1) -- where Kara takes drastic moves to pull Lee out of his funk after his little spacewalk

Some other peeps' great saving fics:

daphnaea's The Reasons and its remix by Fahye: A Sunny Day In Tartarus (The Nameless Things Remix) (http://mercurial-wit.livejournal.com/38860.html) --in which Kara writes Lee a letter with reasons to live after his spacewalk

Gah my memory is failing. That's all I got right now.
