In lots of ways, Kara and Lee share many characteristics and details of hard upbringings. In other ways, they couldn't be more different. Though sometimes being together leads to an explosive outburst, we've seen them work together in a complementary kind of harmony that's pretty unique to them throughout the course of the show. Today's discussion isn't so much about pilots as it is about all of you that choose to join in...

Do you feel you identify more with Kara or Lee?
Instead, are you the harmony they sometimes find together?
Or maybe why you love them so much is that you don't see anything of yourself in either of them?

I always identified strongly with Lee, Lee, and seemingly only Lee, when the show was on. So much so it felt disconcerting, at times, to have a character whose inner world I intuitively grasped so completely.

However, I have subsequently come to acknowledge that there's far more of Kara in me than I'm often comfortable admitting. I know people worship her (especially her brash Starbuck persona) but for me, admitting I identify with her is actually a little scary. :) Her world is so sharp and harsh and violent at times... and being in her point of view is *very* painful for me, perhaps because it does feel so close to home. But the truth is I very much connect with her vulnerabilities and the way she hides them (that, at the very least).

So I like your second question very much. :) I'm far from being the harmony, I'm more ... bipolar ... :P But I *do* believe there is an inherent harmony there, that it is possible and indeed desirable to love and connect with both of them, equally.

(hee, if anyone who knew me when the show was on sees this, they're going to be a bit 'WTFFFFFFF????' that I ID as a Kara girl in any way. :p I was always so Lee partisan.)

Hmm. Well, in one sense I identify with Lee because I usually find it very easy to see where he's coming from and I tend to agree with many of his decisions, though he regularly makes me want to punch him in his personal life :/

But just because I agree with him a lot doesn't mean I think I'm similar to him in personality. I don't see myself in either of them, actually, though I think they're both great.

I like to talk things out. They don't. I am not angry. They are both simmering volcanoes of supressed molten rage. I would never in a million years be happy in the military. I have no desire to fly anything anywhere, and get nervous even behind the wheel of a car. I am a fan of monogamy. I am not ambitious. My life is quite sendentary and it would make absolutely wretched television drama.

When my husband and I were dating, I actually asked him once, "Hey, why can't we be America's Love Story?" And he said, "We would only be the Love Story of the part of America that enjoys watching the McNeil-Lehrer News Hour." So true.

Every BSG "What character are you" test has given me one answer.

Lee.

I overthink and I overthink and I overthink. I'm about fairness and justice and yes, I'll deny myself what I truly want on many occasions. I have massive daddy issues. (lol).

I once read a quote.. I don't buy it fully, because I can think of a ton of cases where it doesn't work... but it applies in this case for me: an OTP is when the character you identify with gets together with the character you wanna do.

*stares at Lee**stares at Kara*

Yes.

Oh wow, good question!

Off the top of my head I would say Lee. Growing up with people watching your actions based on what your parents do, the appreciation of rules and propriety, shoving the deep emotions down, being the responsible one.

But then as I think about it, I tend to respond to things like Kara (although not with the risk taking behavior); putting on that persona, being grounded by faith, running from the emotionally scary.

I'm totally a Kara fan first and foremost, and yet I am very much a Lee--the overthinking, the practicality, the rule following, the annoyance at injustice (more personal than political), the romanticism, the complete fascination with Kara Thrace ;)

Although I do share a few traits with Kara -- outspokenness, impatience, a lack of tolerance for people who lack commitment or loyalty, a crazy loud laugh--I don't have much in common with her. Instead I love her (most) because she's everything I'm not.

Personality-wise I am a Lee, but I don't like his character nearly as much as Kara. Maybe the fact that we're polar opposites is what draws me to her, idk!
