I think this is a great community as it is. Continue to have games and fun activities. Continue to encourage commentary and thinking about pilots and their relationship. I think the key is to do all these things, but not to exclude people. Some people are artists, some are writers, some are neither. Try to make sure no facet is left out for too long.

Well, I like to read what others have to say although i rarely really comment on this site. It's not that i don't have thinky thoughts...I'm just not very bright.

That's pretty much it.

On the fic posting front, Beyond_Insane has 1155 members and No_takebacks has 242. I can't imagine there are more than a few who would benefit from posting fic here, too. It seems redundant and flist-clogging to me. That's just my $.02.

I'm pretty happy with the comm as is. :)

I'm not crazy about the idea of fic postings here, just because then I'd end up seeing multiple posts for the same fic on my friends page. I'd be afraid to miss fic if I took b_i off my list. (Life is SO TOUGH, isn't it?) On the other hand I know some people come here who aren't really part of LJ so they're checking each comm manually. I can understand why it'd be good for them.

I'd love rewatches. It's tough to plan a time when most would be free. It's impossible to plan a time when everyone would be free. Maybe instead of a "let's all watch X at X time" type of rewatch we could come up with a list the more interesting pilot eps we want to discuss and once a month dedicate the DPP for that week to an ep. There's likely 7 days worth of fun for each of the best eps. Some things I'm thinking are - fave caps/gifs from that ep, best fic from that ep, what if K & L switched roles in this, what does this ep show about how others see pilots, visual assessments (hair, clothes, lighting, framing, etc.), new ficlet/missing scene prompting, fave recaps/reviews/metas, what would you change, what was K and/or L thinking, how did this highlight the obstacles to or reasons for a relationship, and maybe the weekend would be an open general discussion.

Sci-fi-shipper's [livejournal.com profile] karaleefic is already one-stop shopping for Kara/Lee fic month by month. I say we add a link to that site in the community sidebar here and leave it at that :)

my only problem with this comm is that lately i didn't had the time to participate as much as i wanted too. there are days in which i can barely see what the daily post is about. but that's my problem not the comms.

color me crazy but maybe we can do some sort of "themed weeks"? like a week for thinky-thoughts, one for games, another for pics and stuff. like that if you miss a day you can sort of come back and comment on something after a day or two without being really out of the topic of discussion. it might be the worst idea ever but i sort of felt the need to say it out loud.

on another note: i'd love to be part of the re-watch (as much as i can considering the time-zone and everything) because when it originally started i wasn't around.

ETA: i just realized something and i'm off to correct it.

I just joined the comm and am new to BSG in general. BBC America started airing the series in May and we're up to the middle of season three now.

I'm one of the comm-watchers who doesn't use her flist for active LJing anymore, just commenting. (Like now! Lookitme posting!) I tend to go through busy bursts and can't swing by all of them for lengthy periods of time, so in theory the one-stop-shopping would be great for me - but I can see how the redundancy would annoy others having to sift through cross-posts.

Right now, I keep an eye here and @ karaleefic when I need to catch up (and KTD/LAD whenever I need hits of pretty). It would be neat if there were some method of techno-wizardry available that N_T could have a scrolling sidebar/infobar of direct links to the latest in fics (comments, regular, etc) that didn't clog up everyone's friends feeds, but unfortch, I don't think the platform allows for it. ;)

Enjoying reading everyone's feedback. Just a note about a few behind-the-scenes things for the comm:

It's a moderated comm right now. So aside from the members who already have permission to post (because they are hosting or have hosted a DPP in the past), any posts go into a queue that a moderator then has to approve. That's why you don't usually see questions or general "Hi! I'm new here!" type posts come through. In the past, it seemed like those sorts of posts could get unwieldy/repetitive or clog up the comm potentially. But if we want a more free-for-all type of atmosphere than those could be posted here. Whatever we decide...

The idea of one post a month or one post a week being for a certain function, or even having themed weeks of postings, might be a little tough to institute since there is a new person hosting the DPP each week. It can be done, but we'd have to post a schedule and people would have to know to reserve their Friday post for X or what have you.

Rewatches stopped because they dwindled down to zero attendance pretty much in the back half of S3 and S4. Also, it was difficult to pick a time that was good for people. We tried the same day every week, we tried alternating days every week. Neither seemed like a clear winner.

FWIW, I hate those kinds of posts, hate them. That's usually been the cause of me dropping out of other LJ fandom comms, and personally, if I had to sift through those "lookitme i'm new!!121!11!!!" posts when I was trying to catch up from being away, I'd want to claw my frakkin' eyes out. Not to get all dramatic or nuthin'.

I've said this before, but I'm up for rewatches - I came late and was never here for the heydey-pilots seasons, just the end of S4. Would love to take part in that. :)

I didn't even know about SASA until about two minutes ago :) Is it any different than Beyond_Insane in terms of what gets posted?

I'm pretty new to BSG fandom in general and obviously pilots but I've LOVED being a part of this community so far. It's awesome! So much so that I had multiple tabs open with stuff I haven't even GOTTEN to yet (darn work, it totally gets in the way of me participating in a timely manner....)

But in short, I like it a lot and have no complaints (except that I don't have time to catch up on everything...can you do something about adding more time to my days??? Or letting me win the lottery so I can work less?? No? Worth a shot..)

Also, didn't know about beyond_insane...so THANKS! I am part of SASA though.

I don't think so. SASA's another archive for (primarily) fics, vids, etc. A lot of the fics that get posted at [livejournal.com profile] beyond_insane also get posted at [livejournal.com profile] sasa_hq, so not much is really different between the two comms.

But in the past few years both are kind of mostly archive sites now.

That was my impression, too. I can't find much difference between them, at least recently. I don't know about years ago, because I wasn't active in the fandom until last year or so.

Links added to sidebar! (We couldn't keep up with Rachel's idea for all the fics to be indexed there but this does link to all the comms anyway.)

Well, posts never "close" unless it's a poll maybe and someone closes the poll. There's nothing really stopping anyone from commenting on yesterday's or even older topics. I think naturally though once something drops off the flist, people stop checking unless they're tracking.

We've had two-day posts as well, usually on weekends, but they also suffer from a bit of attrition. And, although it's an unscientific observation, it seems like the earlier you post in the day, the better response you get.

I do like the recaps that people sometimes use before their posts, saying "Monday we talked about X, Tuesday we did Y" those are pretty handy, esp. nice when folks alert to a new interesting discussion thread or fic or what have you there.

I added a sidebar of links to other comms. Don't think we could really keep up with adding fic links there all the time, but Karaleefic does the end of month roundup, and Applecart has both midweek and end of week roundups of their fic.

Oh, ha, gods no - imagine collecting and posting all those links?!?

In my minds eye, the internet, through some genius programmer wizard, magically culled all the fic for us and generated an aggregated reading list for me so I never missed ANYTHING. Maybe in the internet of 2050? :D

Well, that would resolve - at least in part - the problem. Like it is now, except comments on comment-fics nobody say anything on a post after the next one is up and maybe sometimes it would be interesting to be able to do it.

I like the idea of themes in theory,

i said from the get-go that it might be a bad idea. thinking of it after Tara's comment I realized that yes, it would be sort of hard to implement

I think we should have a twice yearly friending meme for newbies

no to anything that isn't streamlined (i.e. extraneous hi I am new, or here's my fic postings, hell my last one which sucked didn't even get mentioned in the comms since I was testing water - so I do not clog comms up with detritus)

TBH I love the way it works though I do think we need to have a sign up for more DPP cause who is, not next but the one after?
