Bee's week of Fandom Community Organizing continues! 

So today was going to be my Beta!bee Ice Cream Social day, but due to technical difficulties and work craziness, that's going up tomorrow will last through the weekend, so don't worry-- plenty of chance to party down over that.

For today....  FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY.

Open mic, no rules, bring whatever you want to the table, fandom or not.  Just let loose and celebrate the end of a (really) long week.  I'm counting on you to bring the fun.  I have every confidence you will succeed.  :D

It's rare I get to log into LJ during the day (boo work!) so I don't get a chance to bring much to the DPP table regularly. However thanks to Ms. Bee she gave me the perfect platform to drop in and spread some shipper love. (Thanks Bee!)

I would just like to say how much I enjoy and appreciate everyone who drives the DPP trains and contribute to this community. I love that even after all this time the K/L ship and its shippers are still keeping the home fires burning. This place never fails to deliver my daily dose of pilots squee. This community and all its members from the old fangirls/boys to the new are 100% AWESOME. *high fives you all*

Seriously, I love this fandom crowd almost as much as I love Pilots! Y'all are hilarious and warm and open-minded and smart! I love all the new fic and all the support for spontaneous creativity here!


I do have a question that's been bugging me, though: to which comm would one post questions about canon, like to solidify one's understanding of the timelines or episode names or whatnot? Where would those sorts of questions be welcome? I can't remember a specific question...really I'd rather just ask the ??s on my LJ and get answers but I am only friends with a few of you...actually, that would probably work best. I just don't have it all memorized here yet like I did with DW, and so I would need to ask about when things happened etc if I wanted to write some fic (or maybe thinky thoughts). There are several comms but few that seem to have just random posts by random folks!

I think since this comm is the most active these days, it's probably the best choice. It started out as a rewatch but that was when SAS (the primary K/L site and beyond insane (the main site for k/l fic) were going strong. So i just say here. Let the be pilots central (and the local watering hole... all wrapped into one!)

I second all the daily love that goes into the DPP. You forget how much work it is when you don't do it ona regular basis. And it's feinitely appreciated. I feel like it's out own little bar, all Cheers-style, where everyone knows your name... :D

Hmm I want to say places like battlestar_blog for general questions may be good but it can be slow there these days.

However, this community of people are very knowledgeable in all things BSG so I say make a public post on your LJ and start friending the people here. Most people are ready and willing to help and discuss and that should get the ball rolling for you. It's a big universe to remember all the details to, battlestarwiki.com comes in handy with a searchable database too.

Tough question. I personally am I little more drawn to Lee, probably because I identify with Kara so much. But I love them both so much, and I guess I'm a true shipper in that respect-- I really like them best together and not apart. As for being stuck on an island, I think I'd like it best if I could strand them there together. ; )

Aww thanks! I do miss the frenzy of pilot shipping with the peeps but most days I feel like I've missed so much I end up reverting to my lurker ways.

The lovely part is that if you do go missing for awhile we always welcome our own back into the fold. I've met some of the smartest, classiest people I know in this community and even when we disagree it's still a welcoming place. That's VERY rare on the internet and why I'm glad this place and all of you are my home base. <3

Been thinking about that lately by the way--do you think we should open this Comm up for fic (and general questions) posting as well? I mean we're not really doing rewatches much any more--though we could start again if we had people willing to keep us on track for them, and aside from the DPPs there's not much here. SASA and BI are pretty old, maybe it's time to make this the shipper central comm for everything? IDK.

I LOVE PILOTSHIPPERS. END OF. Y'all are some of the smartest, nicest people I've ever met, and totally undid my years of terror of shippers in the Harry Potter and Buffy fandoms.

Also, BSG peeps have the highest fic standards in general. Fact. (I have read enough fic across enough fandoms over the years to know of what I speak)

i don't really like lee

Neither do I. It is totally the self-righteousness. He drives me crazy at certain times. Now fic!Lee is a VERY different person than canon!Lee. Fic!Lee is a super awesome guy and I love him. This is stuff I don't generally say 'round these parts. I thought you were brave to say it so I wanted to show my solidarity.

BTW, I *love* Kara but I'm so unlike her in so many ways. I'm totally mousy as a rule. I could count on one hand the number of times in my life I've been drunk. I just live my life totally quietly while I think she screams every second of her life. I wish I could be more like her so I'm drawn to her as a character.

I identify with Kara a ridiculous amount, so I always find myself siding with her in various instances, making her my favorite.

I think that's really interesting. I'm always so much harder on her-- mostly because I see the same flaws I have and well-- yeah. Sometimes that mirror gets a mite uncomfortable. ; )

HA! I love it. (And I love you for having the balls to say it. *g*) Would you be surprised to know it's one of the reasons I love him? Swear to God, when he first prissed onto the scene in the mini and was bitchin' up a storm and hating on everyone and generally being a sanctimonious pain in the ass, I kind of fell in love with him. Simply b/c he's such a twist on the traditional archetype of the square-jawed hero. From a storytelling perspective, I kind of thought it was awesome that he was such a jerk (and yet still clearly the young hot hero role). I dunno, my brain, it's an odd place to be sometimes. And I think what really sealed the deal (for both of them) is how they bring out the humanity/softness/sweetness in each other. The scene in the mini where he comes back from the dead is such a classic example of that. They can bring out the absolute worst, this is also true, but they can also just .... GAH. It kills me.

I really do think we have a very well-mannered bunch, and that means a whole hell of a lot, especially in the wooly wilds of the internets. ; )

Interesting! I have not been really active in other fandoms, so that's always nice to hear. We are pretty obsessed with quality writing and storytelling (I know I'm always pushing myself to do better simply because of the other great stuff that's come before and is still being produced. In that way, as a writer, it's a really excellent creative environment.)

Very true. And it's always cool to take a break whenever. And I do truly appreciate the respect and civility. It sounds as dull as dirt, but really, it's such a huge thing. : )
