There is also the fact he was able to count on several people's help when he plotted to get Roslin out of the brig. And I totally agree about the "Be careful out there" moment. I always loved him for that. And never really understood why so many people saw that line as a sign of his difficulty in adapting to the position of CAG instead of his personal style. I think he got the respect of the pilots and the crew very quickly mostly because he was fair. And set the example.
