DPP: Pilots....played by other people?

The fact that pilots are as epic and unique and amazing as they are in large part because they're played by Katee Sackhoff and Jamie Bamber is common knowledge, since their chemistry is a big chunk of the reason we fell in love with Lee and Kara in the first place.

But what if there was a fresh reboot of this version of BSG, and we were forced to recast them?

Of course no one can ever truly replace Jamie and Katee as Lee and Kara, considering how much of their own personalities they brought to it, but is it even possible to contemplate another pair of actors doing a different take on pilots?

"You want to replace us? This is how: first, make sure your actors have crazy chemistry. Second, make sure they're really hot. Third....nah, can't do it."

To be absolutely honest, I have a hard time imagining pilots with the faces (and bodies) of anyone but Jamie and Katee, but if absolutely pushed, these would be my picks:


Tom Hiddleston as Lee?

Another Cambridge-educated blue-eyed Brit who is really good at playing complicated characters, especially ones with daddy issues, and just really good at acting in general.

He also speaks American quite nicely (he played F. Scott Fitzgerald in Midnight in Paris) and, er, looks REALLY good shirtless:



For Kara, even though Katee is irreplaceable, I might not want to throw rocks if this girl played her



(I must admit, I've always liked her but Melancholia is what convinced me that she could have the chops to handle a character as difficult as Kara - she's good at playing a wide range of characters, and I like that she doesn't look like the usual cookie-cutter blonde. And funnily enough, she was the star of Katee's movie debut too!)

Hiddleston knows how to carry angst. Just thinking about how he would perform that first argument we see Lee have with his dad is giving me feelings. It's a strange recast to imagine, but...yeah XD

I always have a much harder time contemplating anyone else playing Kara than anyone else playing Lee...I think Katee just brought a lot of what is unique about the character somehow. If another good actress played her she may have still been a great character, but not quite the same character.

And yet I also have a really hard time thinking of an example of who could play Apollo, especially if we're constrained to anyone being close to Jamie's age...Ben McKenzie? Or Gael Garcia Bernal maybe, if you're looking for somebody who actually looks the same nationality as EJO (not that I could see him being on a sci-fi show, but a girl can dream).

I think Katee as an actress is so unique that it's hard to find anyone who could replace her in our heads, but considering that RDM and Eick did audition other actresses for her role (including Grace Park), I do wonder. Not that I WANT a reboot and recasting, though!

Also, this is fantasy-casting so we have zero constraints, pick anyone you like. I don't think either of my picks would ever be up to star in a sci-fi tv show either :) (and Gael, GUUUUUUUUUUUUH. He's too beautiful and talented for words - and helpfully pocket-sized to match EJO, too)

I don't think anyone else could give the performance that Katee did (and the same goes for Jamie too) but for funsies, I don't mind the idea of Rosario Dawson at all :)
