They really dropped the ball by not having one of the final five have a strong connection to him personally. Dee should have probably taken Chief or Ellen's spot.

Could you imagine?! I mean it would have gotten even more ridiculous with Kara and her many love interests so they would have had to tie up Anders as a lose end much earlier (kill him off on New Caprica or not have him come back after he walked off in Torn).

BUT THE POSSIBILITIES. They could have righted wrongs and made choices and it would have made it so much easier for me to accept a Humans-must-love-cylons-because-they're-just-like-us-blah-blah-forgivenesscakes kind of ending.

Yup! And even Adama's drunken slobbering over ZAK would have more sense than slobbering over Tigh. (Though with Adama's parenting record, he probably DID feel worse about Tigh than he would have felt about Zak!)
