Daily Pilots Post: Pilots Wake the Muses

There's no question that Pilots are a source of inspiration for a lot of people.  Sometimes it's in obvious ways...

And sometimes it's less obvious...

(Follow the link for the whole story – those socks were inspired by Starbuck and Apollo.  Hee!)

So, what are some of your favorite (good or bad) arts, crafts and creations* that were inspired by the pilots?  What would you like to do or see done that you just don't have the skill for (and don't know any one else who does, either).

*You know I love fic and vids and icons, right?  Of course you do.  Because I love them!  But I'm looking for other stuff this time.  Paintings and image manipulations, clothing and jewelry, toys and sculptures and etc.  Anything goes and there are no limits!

Ummmm...favorite Pilot inspired creations that I've done...that's pretty easy....

OK, fine, but that means I have to add the two "Fives" to my original post....

[identity profile] stripes13.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
I know.....I was already working on getting them in there *smoochies*

Angst Puppy Icons!!! (http://stripes13.livejournal.com/21851.html)

One of my favorite creations has to be Muse's 'Black Holes and Revelations' album. I heard a rumor that this album was inspired by BSG, and while I don't think every song is about Kara and Lee, there are a few in particular, like "Starlight" (and honestly a few others I can't name right now.

:)

[identity profile] stripes13.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I loooove that album! Such a pilot-y vibe to it

[identity profile] owldark.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
How did I not know this?!?! That is so cool.

[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
SERIOUSLY??????

OMG. That's one of my favorite piloty albums ever. Plus it just kicks almighty ass. Wow.

[identity profile] scifishipper.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, man, I love Muse (thank you Ms. Bee!!!). I had no idea it was inspired by BSG. Is that true? (Anyway, I always think of pilots when I listen to, so I DO BELIEVE!)

[identity profile] jeebs83.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's the rumor I heard. I know they're big BSG fans and that the band usually gets inspired by something which turns into an album.

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously?? I wish this rumor was true, because that album has such a strong pilot-y vibe (and "Starlight" is an awesome pilots song!)

[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*squees* I love that album! If it was truly inspired by bsg, I might have to stalk Muse forever until they discuss their thoughts on the matter.

[identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I meant to post this earlier on my LJ and forgot. It's not pilots exactly but you could make a good case that it's Kara inspired or at least BSG inspired:

Here's some of my favorite drawing/paintings:

I want that dress. Not even to wear, necessarily. Just to have.

(Sidenote: Am I the only one who sees the mandala everywhere?)

[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, about the mandala. I may get it as a tattoo. It would be my first though and I have a tattoo rule: must wait one year and see if I still want it on my body. (Heh...guess that's why I'm still tat-less.) It's got a couple more months in waiting. :P

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
A mandala tattoo would be awesome! (I am also playing with the idea of getting a tatoo --my firt too, though I've wanted to get one since forever. But Iam not sure about the design).

[identity profile] stripes13.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
You are not the only one seeing the mandala all over the place...I see it like every day

[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I want that dress.

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
NOW I WANT THAT DRESS, TARA! It's super awesome.

Love the paintings too.

Some clever soul figured out how to make the duty blue uniform:

The pic's a link to the eBay item for a custom, in your size, uniform. WANT. THAT. Unfortunately, my cosplay/Halloween budget is decidedly less than $200, so I'm left just staring longingly at it.

[identity profile] coffeesuperhero.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm gonna try to make some of my own, since I have to do my cosplay on a budget, too. [livejournal.com profile] rayruz has the pattern and she's making a set, so I thought I'd give it a try. :O I expect that there will be many capslocky, keymashing posts in my future as I attempt to make 'em, lol.

[identity profile] ninjamonkey73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You'll definitely have to let us know how it goes!

[identity profile] workerbee73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I still want my sparkly pink dogtags.... : )

[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, only Sugarblanket could get away with pink dogtags complete with sparkles!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/ 2010-04-20 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's my own contribution: the mandala washcloth (http://users.livejournal.com/wisteria_/712498.html).

I tried knitting the Viper Pilots pattern last year, but I only got just past the heel of one sock. That thing is HARD! Tons and tons of cabling. Plus, it's not stretchy at all, which meant I couldn't pull it over my big foot. Alas!

[identity profile] scifishipper.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
HA! That is awesome!!

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, how cool is that?

[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Nicely done!
ext_21969: (kara + lee = hijinks)

[identity profile] coffeesuperhero.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, nice! I keep threatening to knit a mandala hat. I should really get on that.

[identity profile] ninjamonkey73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Oo! Make a mandala hat with a pom-pom, so it looks like Jayne's from Firefly! :)
ext_21969: (thumbs way up)

[identity profile] coffeesuperhero.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That was actually my exact plan!

[identity profile] ninjamonkey73.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you know someone turned wisteria's washcloth pattern into a hat pattern already?

http://quirkyknitgirl.wordpress.com/patterns/starbucks-mandala-hat/

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I am just in awe at how many knitters are fans of BSG lol (the hat is awesome, btw!)

[identity profile] callmeonetrack.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! There's also the cylon centurion knitted hat: http://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B93TuOHePwJiOGM0ZjExN2MtMDhkMi00NWY4LWFjNjYtOGM2YWIxMWVmMmVl&hl=en

and Kara Thrace and her sweater destiny: http://megiknit.livejournal.com/11588.html

And one very awesome Doc Cottle afghan: http://www.ravelry.com/projects/sacajawea610/doc-cottle-afghan

I'm pretty sure someone made knitted cylon raiders too but can't find em at the moment.

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG the cylon centurion hat, it's too cute! **dies laughing**

And the afghan is fantastic! *g*

[identity profile] owldark.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I once cosplayed as Kara for a laugh with some friends! It was a ridiculous ammount of fun... mostly because I was just full of squee (very un-Kara like)! I bullied my friend into cosplaying Athena. That's sort of creative, right? :P

Sadly... I couldn't find myself a Lee. :(

[identity profile] cosetteferaud.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, that sounds so much fun! I'd love to cosplay as Kara :D

[identity profile] owldark.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It was! :D You'd make a beautiful Kara!

[identity profile] thegreenkitty.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Those socks are made of awesome, Jen!

[identity profile] rdave1.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The socks are awesome and they look very comfy.

Looking at the mandala washcloth, I kinda want a Firefly Jane hat like that.:)

[identity profile] rdave1.livejournal.com 2010-04-21 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that would be awesome!:)
