I have a *monster* Kara/Lee playlist (179 songs!) after almost four years (!!!) of pilots obsession. My newest additions are Florence + The Machine's "Cosmic Love" and Azure Ray's "Love and Permanence." What are yours?
They put on a good show, don't they? : ) I saw them a few years back and Matt Bellamy had the inside of the grand piano rigged up to light up according to the pitch of his playing. Plus the confetti cannons and fireworks were pretty awesome.
Getting back on topic, here a few songs that bring pilots to mind for me. Often it's not the song in it's entireity, just snippets of lyrics or the 'feel' of a certain part.
-All Flowers in Time (Bend Towards the Sun), Jeff Buckley. About a charismatic but emotionally withdrawn woman who doesn't believe she deserves to be loved. -Amsterdam, Coldplay. Seems to fit Lee's state of mind rather well in the Resurrection Ship aftermath- about someone struggling with hopelessness and futility but who is brought down from the proverbial ledge by a loved one. Pity we didn't get that last bit in canon. -Sometime Around Midnight, Airborne Toxic Event. Saw this in a vid made by a pilots fan ages ago and was hooked. The 'story' of the lyrics is mostly irrelevant- a guy seeing an ex at a bar and being jealous. For me the resonant bit is the ending where the singer admits he'll keeping returning to his ex even though he 'knows that she'll break [him] in two'. -Hanging by a Moment, Lifehouse. Cliched I know, but it's an old favourite. Seems very appropriate for Lee after he declares himself in UB.
I'm sure there are others, but that's what comes to mind at the moment.
