DPP: Recording the Journey
Hi Everyone! I am
sci_fi_shipper and I'm excited to drive the Pilots train this week. Thanks to
thrace_adama for bringing the pilots love last week! Today, I'm going to start with a little creative thinking.

Presidential Decree
Laura Roslin, President of the Twelve Colonies, has decreed that each person in the Fleet make a video-taped recording of his or her experiences since the Fall. These tapes will be safeguarded and kept for future generations to view and to remember the fight for humanity's survival. The XO has circulated an order that military personnel are required to report to the B-level video labs to make a confidential recording at a time assigned by their superior officer.
What kinds of things would Kara and/or Lee say in a video about themselves and their experiences? Imagine any scenario at any time in the show. Would they go separately? Together? Maybe one night Kara and a few pilots get drunk and make fools of themselves in front of the camera. Anything is possible. And have fun!! <3

The blonde woman raised her eyebrows, as if she couldn't quite believe she'd heard correctly. "I was feeling tired," she said slowly, speaking with the false brightness most adults reserved for children and absolute morons.
"Yes, of course. And?"
"Tired."
Hannah sighed. Getting answers out of anyone military was like pulling teeth, and pilots were the worst. She hadn't signed up for this. She'd been hired to serve as the curator of the Galactica Museum and Educational Center, and she dreaded the day she would have to sit down in front of her own recorder and admit that her first hours of war had been spent crying in an empty gift shop, turning model ships over and over in her hands.
For weeks she had felt utterly useless, a civilian lost in a world of war, until she'd finally pulled herself together and gone to the President with the request to be put to work. For the last few months she had tutored small classes of children scattered throughout the fleet, until President Roslin had called her back to conduct this special project.
It was an absolute nightmare.
Staring once again into her informant's hostile eyes, Hannah reached out with a frustrated grunt and shut down her camera. The woman grinned.
"We done here? Excellent." She started to rise.
"Tell me something, Captain Thrace," Hannah said sharply, and the pilot dropped back in her seat with a tiny grimace. "Why is it you all look at me like I'm beneath contempt? I'm asking for your stories, that's all. It's not that hard to give them. But you act like admitting you're human is some kind of crime. I've been at this for days now, and I keep hitting the same brick wall. It's pissing me off, quite frankly."
Captain Thrace looked at her like she hadn't quite seen her before, then leaned forward, getting right in her face. "Oh, really? You just can't imagine why we might not want to share our feelings with total strangers to be picked over and put up in frakking museums? You can't understand why we don't want to confess to all the crap? You expect us to stand in line to brag about our kills like some stupid Pegasus scorecard? That's not who I am, that's not who we are. And if I'm gonna be remembered, it's not gonna be like this." She waved a hand at the camera in disgust.
Hannah folded her arms, her mouth pinched, and for a few minutes the two women simply stared at each other in silence. Then Hannah said, "How about a compromise? You don't want to talk about yourself. Okay. I get that. How about if I ask you about someone else?"
"What do you mean?"
"Is there anyone you've known through the war, anyone you want to talk about? Any stories you want to make sure *do* make it down to posterity?" She glanced down at her notes. "Fellow pilots, superior officers..."
"Stop right there," Thrace said, and when Hannah looked up she had quite an alarming grin on her face. "I'm in."

In the spirit of finishing what I started...
He paused outside the hatch and heard the bark of Kara’s laughter through six inches of solid metal. Instinctively, he touched his hand to the door.
It wasn’t locked, wasn’t even properly shut, so it shifted forward and swung open. Two sets of eyes turned toward him, both lighting with inappropriate glee. Deliberately, Kara turned back to her interview.
“Most dramatic moment? I’d say it was at Ragnar, when he got himself shot down and I tuned out his piteous cries long enough to ram my ship into his.”
“What the hell, Kara?” Lee stepped into the room, looking appalled.
“That’s p-i-t-e-o-u-s,” Kara repeated slowly, and Hannah lifted one hand to cover her mouth as she jotted it down.
Lee crossed his arms and smoothed his expression into a half-decent triad face. “I trust you know, this means war.”
“Bring it on,” Kara said.
“I don’t think you want me to do that, Captain. I have so much more dirt on you than you have on me.”
“In your dreams, Major.”
“I’ve got enough drunken escapades to fill a dozen interviews.”
“Yeah, well unless you’ve got one where I started a barfight on Cloud Nine – while I was on duty – and you managed to bail me out by beating up the bad guys with your frakking cane, I think I’ll still come out ahead.”
Lee shifted uncomfortably. “I did not send you any piteous cries at Ragnar!”
“You did so. ‘It’s over, Starbuck’ would have sucked as last words, Lee.”
“You look like a blueberry,” he said, seemingly out of nowhere. “I rest my case.”
Thrace narrowed her eyes, but also blushed ever so slightly.
“There’s really no need to worry, Major Adama,” Hannah said politely. “Captain Thrace has been very complimentary about you in her interview.”
“She has?” Lee looked even more suspicious.
“Wait, I have?” Kara said, looking confused.
“Absolutely,” Hannah nodded. “From all that she’s said, it’s obvious how much she cares about you. You seem to have kept her going, even through the worst possible situations. I can tell you, I never expected to find so much joy in the most dangerous corner of this fleet. You’re inspiring – both of you. And very lucky.”
Thrace was staring at her with a kind of fascinated horror, and Adama looked simply lost for words. Both of them had flushed scarlet, and were quietly edging away from each other like extremely embarrassed magnets turned pole to pole.
“I’m off to take a smoking break,” Hannah announced brightly, tucking her notebook into her bag. “I’ll be back in ten or fifteen minutes for your interview, Major Adama. I look forward to hearing your perspective.”
She stepped out into the corridor, making sure to pull the hatch firmly closed behind her.
Impartial observation had its place, of course. But here at the end of the worlds, she wasn’t about to lose any sleep over a little biased interference.
Making history was better than recording it, any day.

Loved this line: "And if I'm gonna be remembered, it's not gonna be like this." So very Kara.
It's funny, because normally I would think that Kara'd be more comfortable talking to the cameras than Lee, but in an instance like this, I could see the reverse being true. Not that it'd be any easier for him, but I think Lee would feel a sense of obligation.
