DPP: Bring on the Kara Love!

First, a HUGE thank you to everyone who posted in Lee's thread yesterday.  He is truly awesome and you guys provided bunches of reasons why...just in case looking at him is not enough. *g*  You shippers completely rock.

Now let's switch to our girl Kara.  Please spam it up in here...pics, lists, vids, metas.  Keep the celebration going strong!

Let the Kara love begin...

I'll start with a cut from a post I made awhile ago.  I promise I will be back with more later today.

Why I love Kara Thrace...let me count the ways...

 

1. She's no angel.  And she'd be the first to tell RDM to frak off for trying to retcon her into that box.

2. There's no place like hack.
3. Everything's not fine.

4. *blushes* She inspired me to chop off my hair with a pocket knife...and it was truly cathartic.

5. "Nothing but the rain" is as good a motto as any.

6. BPD needs a poster child.  (See me or Cosette for an upcoming and more extensive LJ entry on this one.)

7. She may be frakked to hell in daily life, but she is the best there is when it comes to her career.

8. Leoben was too busy obsessing over her in S4.5 to even bother being seen trying to fix Galactica with the sixes and eights.  (Yes, i know CKR was also busy, but hey...i'm shuffling off reality and canon's mortal coil and interpreting to best fit our pilots from here on out.)

9. Kara represents the best and worst in me.

10. Frak or fight.

11. Mandalas are tempting potential tattoos.

12. Lee Adama loves her.

13. Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, and P!nk wish they could be as bad a** as Starbuck.

14. Roslin, Cap6, and D'anna do too.

15. She's an artist.

16. Dirk may have been first, but Katee was best and her Starbuck lives in us all.

17. She's beyond insane.

18. She has a shitload of art and music in her apartment but only a packet of Ramen noodles to eat.

19. She is the leader of the thinky thoughts brigade, now overseen by Bee.

20. Kara Thrace loves Lee Adama.

21. This tree-hugging hippie shot a golf ball across the woods with an M-14 to indulge in gun!porn b/c Kara makes it look like so much fun.

22. She tagged a cylon ship with her callsign and pilot!danced it home until Lee realized it was her.

23. She's held a gun to pretty much everyone's head except the Adama men. 

24. Out of the box is where she lives.

25. She sees nothing wrong with almost always getting her own way...because she's opinionated but she's also usually right.

My relationship with Kara is complicated. I adore her-- gods know I adore her, but she also makes me crazy. Looking at her sometimes is like looking at a piece of myself-- making me remember times when swagger and self-defense and self-destruction and believing that you didn't deserve happiness or weren't supposed to get what you wanted were the order of the day-- to feel so driven and so invincible and yet so vulnerable and breakable. To run away from love and into something safe. To be scared shitless that someone else just might have you figured out. To curse and smoke and drink with the best of the boys but still be completely female. To embrace your sexuality. To make mistakes and be beautifully, wonderfully human. To lead, to be the strong one. To figure out who you really are and what your destiny is supposed to be.

I'm no viper pilot, but her story is my story, and I suspect, all of our stories. It's why I will always adore her and fight so hard for her. Why she will always hold a very special place in my heart.

It's why I love Kara Thrace.

I love this comment. Kara is at her best, I think, when she acknowledged the protection of the swagger and gives in to real, vulnerable feelings. We're all fascinate by her wibble, the almost shy, sweet way that she looks when she lets someone in, allows herself to think about what she feels and connect to the people around her. Let them in to see who she really is, on the inside. Kara, not Starbuck.
