Daily Pilots Post

In the right community this morning!

Today, let's talk about AUs. Out of universe AUs. The kind where our beloved pilots are in New York or noir spies or whatever. Talk about it! What are your favourites? Are there things you're dying to read that no one is writing?

AUs used to be my favourite things when I was still watching BSG, because at least the fic couldn't spoil me.

I'm head over heels for Apologetics, Duly Noted and First Name Basis (and its followup which I'm too drunk to type out right now) by letterstonorah (http://letterstonorah.livejournal.com/16001.html#cutid2), in fact she has a lot of great pilots AU fic. [livejournal.com profile] rachelindeed also has a lovely Buffy crossover AU called Prophecy Girl (http://rachelindeed.livejournal.com/9275.html) in which Kara slays vampires.

I also loved Tara's Ice!Pilots (http://taragel.livejournal.com/132069.html) series and Bee's Spypilots (http://workerbee73.livejournal.com/119052.html) 'verse, they're crazy amounts of fun and UST and pure HOTNESS at times. plus this oneshot, The Road Not Taken (http://workerbee73.livejournal.com/129076.html), which is all about The Table.

(and of course, Aerilon Girls are Easy (http://flowrs4ophelia.livejournal.com/113085.html), it's the perfect what-if-the-war-never-happened AU)

I think I like pilots in pretty much any AU where they remain themselves really. sorry for the essay, but I can never get enough of them or of the awesome fic.

Thanks for the rec, bb! And seconding Ice!Pilots in particular, that is such sparkly feel-good fun :)

I'm also a big fan of AUs, both reading and writing them.

When it comes to 'outside of the BSG universe' stuff, I think my favorite Kara/Lee AU fics have been [livejournal.com profile] innibis's Frakked-Up Fairytales series (http://innibis.livejournal.com/?skip=10&tag=fairytale). They are all wonderfully richly-built worlds; one I find particularly entrancing is Six Swans (http://innibis.livejournal.com/46658.html).

Caprica High was also a delightful OurEarth!highschool series, but sadly most of it is gone now as one of the authors has deleted their journal. But there are a few lovely moments left, like Pigtails and All (http://peri-peteia.livejournal.com/246566.html) by [livejournal.com profile] peri_peteia.

I also have a fond place in my heart for cute little drive-by ficlets like [livejournal.com profile] fahye_fic's Firely/BSG vignette in this drabble collection (http://fahye-fic.livejournal.com/30909.html) (you have to scroll down the page until you get to the entry headed 'Kara and Zoe, comparing weapons and the hotness of their menfolk'); also [livejournal.com profile] shah_of_blah's Drive (http://shah-of-blah.livejournal.com/38072.html) (Kara and Martha Jones in a car).

I've written some out of universe AUs as well, like Five histories and one present (http://rachelindeed.livejournal.com/10716.html) (historical vignettes), and He Kindly Stopped For Me (http://rachelindeed.livejournal.com/11816.html) (mythology AU with Hades/Persephone).

I'd love to see more historical AUs, they can be so fun!

I want Kara and Lee as high powered lawyers! High powered, sexy lawyers!

**makes strangled noises** someone NEEDS to write these, now!

(I want an AU of pretty much anything that allows pilots to be hot)

I totally second this!
