No, I don't think it's because they're military and it's their job. I think ... well, it just is what it is. Life sucks. Most heroes are unacknowledged, good people finish last, etc. I mean, look at our world. There are hundreds of "Gaius'" running around not paying for their sins and being constantly "rewarded" with a good (okay, maybe at least comfortable) life. It's gut wrenching and hard to take and that's why BSG is so good. It doesn't paint a pretty picture. Ever. Did I cry during the finale? Absolutely! Heck, I cried for a week afterward. It's the unfairness of it all that somehow make BSG more, much more, than a T.V. show and like a fantastic novel. I mean, what WOULD happen if the world ended tomorrow? How do we, as people, react? How do we grow/evolve or actually, as in the case of Roslin, devolve?
