DPP, Day Four -- LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR.

All right, kids, it's lovefest time.  So dust off those meme trousers and come on out and FEEL THE LOVE.  Today is all about the silly light frothy fun. This is a lovefest/get-to-know-you/friending meme all wrapped into one so don't be shy!

Here's how it works:

1.  Put your tags in the box by posting a comment saying "Will you be my Neighbor?"   Or whatever.  I just enjoy the Mr. Rogers reference.

2.  You must interview the person who posted ABOVE YOU in their comment thread.

3.  You must ask them three questions:

One (somewhat) personal (but not too personal, as this is, after all the internets, so no asking for identifying information-- ie, name, address, location, etc.  Just more generic personal stuff.)
One fannish (anything fandom or pilots-related), and
One weird/silly/crazy (just let loose and have fun with this one).

4.  You must must MUST chitty chitty chat chat with other people who have answered, especially if you see something intriguing.  This is all about the talking folks, so let's get to it.  :D

As innibis is my willing human sacrifice cheerful little guinea pig, she will be first up---(see the frist comment below)

And above all, HAVE FUN.  And Happy Thursday.  ; )

1) One life goal is to do some original writing, maybe work on some kind of anthology of short stories. It hasn't happened yet, but someday!

2) I enjoy both AU and canon, really. My favorite AUs in the BSG world are Academy fics and also anything that really creates its own richly detailed world. I think "Aerilon Girls are Easy" and "The Reality and Immortality of Things" are amazing because they feel so very real on their own terms. And kag's "Irreplaceability of Things Lost" is breath-taking not only in its world-building but in its incredible logic -- she makes everything fit so very well.

3) Ha. There are many actors I've had crushes on over the years -- I'm a sucker for beautiful, posh voices, so Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Baker, James Mason definitely have a lot going for them. I also like people who seem intelligent and pleasantly sarcastic; Peter Wingfield, Joseph Gordon Levitt, James Marsters. I have an inexplicable attraction to Jimmy Cagney. But I would (and did) marry the sweet, upstanding type. Someone sort of Clark Kent-ish :)

Actors I don't enjoy? Jack Nicholson, maybe. 95% of current comedians.

Midwife? Interesting! That is for sure something that makes a difference. *highfive*

Banter & eye sex, huh? Yup, me too. :)

And what are we talking here, Pat Benatar? Cindy? Tiffany?

[identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com 2011-12-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
1) I am travelling the world, I suppose, with the people I love best. Taking a lot of late-night train rides, eating cheap gyros from street vendors, climbing the mountains at Delphi, learning to speak Russian with my husband, visiting a lot of museums, sleeping under the stars in the Tuilleries gardens on a summer night, playing the cello, taking my mom to Rome.

2) Kara sees Lee as the person who knows her best. He accepts the ways in which she can't change, has the courage and strength to push her when she does need to overcome some destructive behavior/idea, and for the most part he does a decent job of telling the difference between those two situations. She sees how much he loves her and respects her without being intimidated by her attitude, her extraordinary gifts, or her baggage.

Lee sees Kara as the person who makes him comfortable in his own skin. He is the most himself when he's with her, she draws out of him everything he has to give: friendship, laughter, anger, love both platonic and deeply passionate, his soldier's instincts and his politician's ambition. She makes things happen, she *moves* him. He needs that.

3) My three guests would be Alexis de Tocqueville, John Adams and Bobby Kennedy.

Banter & eye sex, huh? Yup, me too. :)
The banter was so good that I didn't even realize who the actor was until six episodes in - bad fangirl.

And what are we talking here, Pat Benatar? Cindy? Tiffany?
All of the above.

I love your response to #2. I agree with that fully.

[identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com 2011-12-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
1) It's never too late, is my philosophy. Better to keep searching than to regret. Besides, as my aunt once said, one form of learning is to make mistakes quickly :)

2) I like my comfort zone, actually. It's there for a reason -- fandom is about doing things I enjoy, and sharing happily with other people whose tastes overlap with mine. I'm happy to try new things that I'm not uncomfortable with, but I don't go further than that.

3) Smooth, definitely. Yum!

[identity profile] rachelindeed.livejournal.com 2011-12-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
How wonderful! Your teacher sounds amazing. I also find the piano very alluring -- I love to watch people play.

[identity profile] scifishipper.livejournal.com 2011-12-15 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Sadly, I am allergic to almost all artificially scented products, so I'd probably say food smells, particularly apple pie, of course, but also the smell of beef stew or something rich and meaty! :)

2. Shippy answer: I would invite Lee and Kara, make them drink a limited amount of alcohol (just enough to bring down the inhibitions) and then lock them in a room. The non-shippy answer is that I would invite Helena Cain and Admiral Adama to the table. I love powerful people and I would be fascinated to listen to them talk.

3. I guess the problem with historical events is that if you are present at the time they occur, ie., living in their time period, you might not recognize that they are historical. Old timey things kind of suck for women, so maybe something modern? IDK. I'm not really that interested in history, but if I had to pick one, I'd like to be sitting on the moon in my own habitat watching humans land for the first time (and of course hearing their communications at the time). That would be damn cool. :D

I am your neighbor in this tiny little federal city. :) Moving on...

1) What's your favorite thing about yourself?

2) If you could live in the head of one BSG character for a day, who would it be and why? (Bonus: pick a specific day!)

3) What's your favorite pizza topping?

[identity profile] embolalia.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
1) Oof. I have no idea. My memory, I suppose--I'm always the one in a group who remembers all the stories and all the details.

2) Leoben. The rest of them I can relate to enough, but Leoben I struggle with sometimes. I'd love to see what it's like to have visions and experience reality differently from everyone else.

3) An excessive amount of every kind of cheese! Though where I went to college we had a crazy pizza place that would make quesadilla pizza or tortellini pizza, and those were favorites at the time :)

YOUR EPIC ANSWER IS EPIC!

1) I also have a tattoo at the base of my spine. We're still cool cats, you and me! A line of symbols on your spine sounds pretty awesome actually.

2) I am 100% there with all of your frak, marry, kill answers!! Great minds think alike! (Except Romo. I just don't like him all that much though I like his snark.)

3) All of those sound lovely!

[identity profile] wicked-sassy.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
1) Who would play you in a movie and why?

2) What's your favorite BSG moment and why?

3) Sophia, Dorothy, Blanche, or Rose: who's your favorite Golden Girl and why?

[identity profile] wicked-sassy.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, thank you for the fic recs! I also love Academyfic!

[identity profile] rdave1.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
1)I would have to say Kajol or Rani Mukerjee as they both closely resemble how I look physically.

2)Pilots- God, there are so many but the brig scene if Six of One was just perfection for them. They were finally ready for their individual journies and once they finished those to start their journey together.

BSG as whole - It would be 33, I know I'm cheating but that episode showed the strength of the human spirit in the mist of total annihilation. It was one of the reasons I love this show, that after all that these group of people had just gone through, they had to come together to survive as a whole.

3)I've never really watched Golden Girls, just here and there but if I get guess I am probably a lot more like Dorothy than any of the other girls.

I don't think we've met officially. I'm Reshma btw!

[identity profile] wicked-sassy.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, fun answers. Rani Mukherjee is so pretty.

Nice to meet you, Reshma. I'm Deena. Pleased to make your acquaintance!

Late as always. Trying to figure out how this works. Won't you be my neighbor?

[identity profile] kdbleu.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
1. Favorite movie, favorite book and favorite fictional character?

2. When did you know you shipped Kara and Lee?

3. Bob Dylan, yes or no?

[identity profile] useyourlove.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I shall give away my place of origin and say: hey y'all! I'm late, as ever, as well. But, won't you be my neighbor?

[identity profile] useyourlove.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your favorite color? (oo, real personal, lol.)
Who do you identify with more and/or like better: Kara or Lee?
What's your favorite comedy movie or show?

[identity profile] velvety2010.livejournal.com 2011-12-16 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Hard questions!!

1. So many movies and books to choose from! OK, I'll pick a pair of movies: Before Sunrise/ Before Sunset. I can watch those two over and over again and I find that I can relate to both.
Books? So many here as well (I had to go to goodreads to cheat): One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez. Moon Palace by Paul Auster. Little Prince + Pride and Prejudice are classics I've read multiple times.
Favorite fictional character? I LOVED Aragorn for so many years and seeing Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn on screen did nothing but fuel it more! Swoon...

2. In the mini when Lee pulls Kara from under the viper. By the time I saw "you can't go home again" I was a complete shipper for the first time in my life. It is what brought me to LJ, what introduced me to fanfic and this lovely community.

3. YES! He is a poet. I have a scene of the Wonder Years stuck in my head with "the times they are a changin" playing in the background while the family leaves the daughter behind. GAH! Makes me sad thinking about it!

"Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'."

How about you?

[identity profile] velvety2010.livejournal.com 2011-12-17 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Favorite color: turquoise blue. My happy place in life is on the beach and I think I love turquoise because it reminds me of that perfect beach in my head.

While I love them both and equally, I think I identify more with Lee. I was the older sibling, the mostly responsible one with a side of rebel. The idealist.

Comedy movie: When Harry Met Sally. That's a comedy right? These days I like Modern Family on TV.

How about you?

[identity profile] kdbleu.livejournal.com 2011-12-17 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love Bob Dylan, but I know a shocking number of people who have a huge Dylan hang up because of his voice.

[identity profile] useyourlove.livejournal.com 2011-12-17 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yay, conversation :-D! My best friend's color is turquoise actually, and I think you might be the only other person who's ever told me that's they're favorite color. Awesome! Goodness, I have too many favorite colors. If it hurts your eyes to look at it it's probably a favorite of mine. Special mentions to blue-violet, orange, and light blue.

As for Kara and Lee, Kara wins out over Lee for top spot in my heart--but the more I think about it the more I love Lee, so this is becoming a close thing. I think I identify most with the emotional distance Kara keeps around herself, and the way she reacts to the world. Ironically, then, when I'm faced with tough situations I go super-idealist and react like Lee Adama. Which may be why I love them so much.

Comedy movie..... geez, I dunno. I like 1930s screwball comedies. And Marx Brothers movies. *super old school* And When Harry Met Sally is totally a comedy ;-) romcom ftw. Although I think my favorite Meg Ryan movie is Kate & Leopold, but that's probably from all my wishful thinking ;-).

[identity profile] winegums.livejournal.com 2011-12-17 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
sure, I'll play! (I am even later, and boring)

1. What was your favourite show/fandom before you met BSG?

2. How did you get into BSG in the first place?

3. What's your least favourite food?
